Using a Eurocube for irrigation
Watering systems by gravity or with a pump for a garden or a summer cottage with your own hands are easiest to make from a eurocube. This type of tank has impressive dimensions and makes it possible to store water in case of drought. It is worth talking in more detail about how to install the eurocube, which supports for the container can be used.
How is it used?
The problem of organizing watering in the country or on the site of a country house is solved in different ways. The main difficulty is finding a suitable container. Choosing a eurocube for irrigation, you can abandon the use of not too strong barrels, mount a drip irrigation system with minimal costs. This type of technical tanks refers to medium-tonnage containers, complemented by a metal grate and a pallet made of plastic, metal, wood... The cube itself is a polyethylene tank with a tap, thick walls of 1.5-2 mm, a neck in the upper part.
This type of container is widely used in industry. For the irrigation system, used eurocubes, freed from the contents, and chemically treated, are most often used. Thanks to the presence of an adjustable tap, it is possible to organize the supply of water by gravity for the greenhouse or green spaces in the open field.
Organizing autowatering with a eurocube is also not difficult, it is enough to choose a suitable system, install pumping equipment.
Under normal conditions, containers, also known as IBC containers, are used to transport technical liquids - alkalis, acids, oils. And also Eurocubes are used as storage for food products.
How to choose a cubic capacity?
Finding the optimal container for irrigation requires some effort. There are many factors to consider.
-
The previous purpose of the container. Eurocubes used for food storage have a filler cap at the top and a drain cock with a green handle. And also a sign that the vessel is suitable for watering can be considered the presence on the body of a distinctive sign in the form of a glass and a fork or the number 2, enclosed in a triangle. Technical containers can be used to collect and store water only after thorough rinsing.
- Pallet type... It is optimal if it is polymeric. Steel pallets have also proven themselves well.
- Crane type. It can be 56 mm or 100 mm in diameter. The first option for watering is more preferable. If necessary, a replacement will be fairly easy for him to find. It is worth immediately taking care of purchasing a 1/2 or 3/4 inch adapter based on the diameter of the water supply line.
- Container color. Black, opaque walls avoid the phenomenon of water bloom. Light euro cubes do not have such dignity, they will have to be covered.
These are the main selection criteria.
In addition, it is recommended to additionally calculate the required tank volumes.
For 1 m2 of area, about 30 liters of water are required. This standard should be multiplied by the area of the garden or garden in order to obtain the minimum volume indicators. Usually, a eurocube from 1.5 to 3 m3 is enough for watering summer cottages.
How to install in the garden?
When planning to install a euro cube for irrigation in the country, it is worth determining from the very beginning: the water will be supplied by gravity or with the help of a pump. Many gardeners also prefer to use a storage tank to collect rainwater. In this case, you need to place it like this, so that moisture can freely enter the neck of the tank.
If it is not planned to use a pump at the dacha, the container is installed on an elevation. Even for a cube of 1000 liters, a stand on a capital foundation is needed, which every master can do with his own hands.
It is possible to put the container directly on the ground in the pallet only if the water pressure in the irrigation system is regulated by a pump.
To install the Eurocube you will need:
- reinforced concrete slab foundation;
- stand to raise it to a height.
Standard parameters of a metal frame for a watering tank: height from 1.8 m, dimensions in accordance with the dimensions of the tank itself. The stand can be assembled welded or bolted. A steel pipe with a diameter of 50 mm for supports and a corner of 40 × 40 mm for a platform will do. It is important that the support is stable and can withstand the weight of the filled tank. For reinforcement, steel slopes and corners are used, located in the area of the docking nodes.
After assembling the structure, you can install the eurocube on it in a predetermined position. You can pre-paint the container black to prevent water bloom. The tank is ready to be connected. It can be additionally connected directly to a float valve or filler neck.
Then a system of pipes is laid, with the help of which it is planned to water the plantings. An adapter will help to correctly connect the line to the tap. If a pump is used, it is better to take a ground one. Connection is made without filling the container. After all connections and fittings are secured, you can fill the cube with liquid.
The connection is completed by starting the system. With a gravity device, it will be enough to open the tap for this. The drip irrigation system does not use up a lot of liquid. Here, the pressure that the Eurocube will give is quite enough.
