Eggplant is classified as a tropical plant. It is important for gardeners to know exactly how to water the eggplant. The procedure is carried out using warm water heated in the sun. Pay attention to the composition of the liquid. It is unacceptable to use hard, lime water when watering. Use a mild rainfall or one that has settled for a day.

General rules

When growing eggplants, certain rules must be followed. This will give you the opportunity to get a good harvest in the greenhouse and in the open field. Eggplant is quite capricious, he likes abundant watering. However, you should not moisten the soil too much. In this case, the seedling will quickly die, rotting from the root.

Also, abundant waterlogging contributes to the development of dangerous diseases.

Saving water negatively affects the growth of a demanding and capricious vegetable. In this case, the soil will dry out, and the growth of the seedling will stop. There will be a small amount of ovaries on it. The lack of fluid on the fruits negatively affects. They become smaller, tasteless. Watering the eggplants should be adequate. In this case, you should know certain rules.

  • Irrigate the culture with water at room temperature. Do not use cold. Otherwise, it will lead to the development of dangerous diseases.
  • The procedure can be done from above, avoiding liquid getting on the surface of the leaves. If it is hot outside, you can burn delicate cells. Watering on cloudy days contributes to the development of dangerous diseases.
  • When watering eggplant seedlings, make sure that the soil is not overly moist. Otherwise, it will cause dangerous diseases, resulting in the death of the fastidious vegetable.
  • Be sure to ventilate the greenhouse before watering. Otherwise, it will be difficult for the delicate leaves to breathe. They start to turn yellow and fall off.
  • They love seedlings if they add special fertilizing to the soil during watering. For this, fertilizers are dissolved in the liquid. For 10 liters of water, 2-3 teaspoons of the product are suitable. Stir the product thoroughly and then water directly under the root. If fertilizer gets on the leaves, the death of the vegetable may occur.
  • Water the crop in the morning or evening after sunset. If the weather is hot outside, you can carry out the procedure twice a day.

Eggplant seedlings should be watered in a certain way, using different amounts of liquid. With overflow and lack of moisture, eggplants will grow poorly and develop poorly. If you do not adhere to the established rules, the fastidious vegetable quickly dies.

What should be the water?

Do not water eggplant seedlings with cold water. Otherwise, it will lead to the development of dangerous diseases and to the death of the eggplant culture. The water should settle within a week. To do this, it is poured into a large barrel and waited. Before watering, fill a watering can with liquid and water it directly under the root so as not to fall on the delicate leaves. Otherwise, it can lead to burns and death of the plant. When watering by hand, the plant is often fed by alternating different types of fertilizers. It is worth diluting ammonia in water and stirring. Top dressing made from mullein or bird droppings is also suitable. With the manual type of procedure, cover the soil with mulch. For this, the use of crushed bark, sawdust or agrofibre (spunbond) is recommended.

To a large extent, the use of a garden hose is called a facilitation of the procedure. This should be done carefully, even if there is enough length to get to the beds. Otherwise, it will lead to the appearance of dangerous black rot. Excessive pressure will lead to plant breakage. To avoid this, a special diffuser is put on the hose. At the same time, the jet is directed between the rows, under the root of the seedling. In order to avoid damage to plants when moving a heavy hose across the territory, it is recommended to install glass bottles along the borders of the beds, dropping them with their throats down. It is also recommended to water the vegetable with a drip method. To do this, a special tape for drip irrigation, which is available in every flower shop, is laid out across the territory. The use of this method helps to stabilize the water flow and well nourish the culture.

This method contributes to the supply of moisture to the root system of each seedling in the right amount, regardless of the location of the tape. To carry out drip irrigation, connect the tape to the central water supply system. You can also equip and bring to the drip system a special container in the form of a metal barrel or tank. They are preliminarily raised to a height of 1 meter.

When watering in this way, less water is consumed, supplying the liquid pointwise to the root system.

Volume and frequency of watering

Water the eggplant seedlings often. In order not to harm delicate seedlings, this should be done correctly. For each adult bush, it is recommended to add one and a half to two liters of settled water having a temperature above 20 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, it will lead to a negative impact on the culture. The plant can get sick and die. When seedlings are found in the open field, they should be watered depending on a number of factors. An important point is called the establishment of hot weather. In this case, the eggplants are watered after 2-3 days. If the weather is not very hot, it is recommended to water adult plants once a week, avoiding liquid getting on the surface of delicate leaves.

Watering eggplants in a greenhouse is affected by the regularity of moisture application. This is done depending on several factors, including:

  • at what age are the seedlings;
  • what climatic conditions the culture is in;
  • what is the state of the soil;
  • what are the conditions in the greenhouse.

Young seedlings are recommended to be watered with a small amount of liquid. For a flowering and fruiting bush, the volume of liquid is increased. The procedure should be frequent and plentiful. When tender eggplant shoots have just appeared, the procedure is rarely carried out. It is better to water the emerging plants after 3-5 days with a small amount of liquid. It is impossible to fill the surface. Otherwise, this will lead to the development of dangerous fungal pathologies, including the black leg. This dangerous disease develops rapidly in wet soil. Within a day, this will lead to the death of all seedlings. Delicate seedlings that have just appeared on the surface should be watered carefully, pouring water into the space between the rows. When irrigating, the entire seedling should be left dry, from stems to leaves. Professional gardeners recommend avoiding flooding the soil during the procedure so that dirt does not form and dangerous diseases do not develop.

When irrigating the soil, keep the top layer dry, only then re-water the seedlings. Cover the surface of the seedling box with clear glass or plastic wrap. Gardeners recommend opening a mini greenhouse every day in the morning and in the evening. This will ventilate the culture. Do not pour too much water to avoid damaging the stems and leaves. Otherwise, it will significantly reduce the eggplant yield. Water the plant sparingly with a watering can.

After disembarking

When the seedlings have grown enough, they should be transplanted to a permanent place. Immediately after that, water the crop abundantly, keeping the root zone moist.To do this, water the seedlings twice a day, in the morning and in the evening in hot weather. Better to land in cloudy weather. In this case, the plants will quickly take root. When the seedlings have taken root, the intensity of watering should be reduced. Better to water the crop in hot weather after 2-3 days. In dry conditions, you can slightly increase the regularity of watering by doing the procedure once a day, pouring half a liter of warm and clean liquid under the bush.

During flowering

During the flowering period, watering the eggplants is carried out as carefully as possible, moistening the surface of the root zone. Water the soil with a slightly warm liquid. Otherwise, the plant may experience shock due to cold watering. This leads to shedding of flowers and ovaries. Water the eggplant seedlings with a liquid close to the temperature of the soil layer. When a seedling blooms, you need to irrigate it excessively. To do this, pour up to 2 liters of water under each bush. Especially it is necessary to do the procedure in dry and hot weather.

During fruit formation

Fruits are formed on the eggplant from the end of June. In greenhouse conditions, this can happen a little earlier than in the open field. At the beginning of fruiting, it is recommended to water the seedling abundantly. Use warm water during the procedure.

When the fruits appear, it is recommended to feed the plants in parallel with watering. This promotes more fruit appearance on each eggplant and improves their taste.

Helpful hints

On a large area of our state, eggplant is grown exclusively in greenhouse conditions. In the south, this demanding vegetable is grown in the open field. In order to get a bountiful harvest in any case, it is recommended to adhere to the following recommendations.

  • Water the seedlings with water that has settled for a week. If there is none, a bucket of liquid is heated and diluted cold to such a state until it is at an acceptable temperature.
  • Pour water exclusively under the bush. To do this, make special grooves at the planting stage. They will absorb water as needed. It is especially important to water the crop during flowering and fruiting.
  • Avoid water ingress on the seedling. Otherwise, the eggplant may break. In addition, water burns when it hits the leaves.
  • So that the soil around the plant does not dry out, professional gardeners recommend covering the area with mulch.

Eggplant is a demanding crop. With proper care, they produce a bountiful harvest of fruits. To do this, it is recommended to water the seedlings in a timely manner with settled water and apply top dressing.
