The largest number of various household appliances are bought for the kitchen. These are refrigerators and freezers, dishwashers, blenders and mixers. However, since the time of our ancestors, the hearth is what the whole life and even the house itself were built around. Today, a stone hearth or stove is successfully replaced by an ordinary kitchen stove. There are many multifunctional models that you can purchase from the comfort of your home.

And yet the most popular are ordinary gas stoves, which do not require special dishes or electricity. Their hotplates heat up quickly and are resistant to destruction and temperature extremes. In order to light such a burner, wooden matches are usually used, but there is also a more convenient tool - a special lighter for the stove.

Peculiarities

At its core, a lighter is a device that helps create fire. It can spark or light a small flame at the tip, operate from a button, wheel or lever. Such devices come in completely different shapes and sizes. It can be an abstract stick or a miniature pistol, a bright plastic lighter that looks like a child's toy, or a stylish metallized one that matches the rest of the interior. The main distinguishing feature of such a tool is a long elongated spout, which must be brought to the gas stove burner.

Advantages and disadvantages

Manufacturers of such lighters claim that this kitchen helper has many advantages over regular matches.

  • Always at hand... Many lighters come with special hooks that can be glued or nailed to the wall next to the stove. It is very convenient to hang the lighter on such hooks and you do not have to look for it all over the room every time you need to put the kettle on or cook dinner. In the event that such holders are not included in the kit, you can always purchase them separately.
  • Will not end suddenly. This is especially true for devices that are connected to the electrical network. Often, matches tend to end at the most inconvenient time, when shops are already closed or guests are already on the doorstep. With a silicon or electric lighter, this situation is not terrible.
  • Less fire hazardous. Of course, giving it to small children is not recommended in order to avoid injury or the risk of fire. However, compared to matches, such a device is much safer even in the hands of an adult. The ember will not come off from it and will not fall on the flammable coating.
  • More economical. Some types of lighters are more economical than even inexpensive matches, which have to be bought in addition as they are spent. This usually applies to those devices that operate on a constant network or give a spark due to mechanical friction.
  • Will not damp. Unlike matches, which instantly deteriorate from contact with water, even if you pour over the lighter, it can still work after it dries. In addition, the quality of matches cannot be checked in a store, but a lighter is very easy.
  • Do not burn yourself. A burning match very often burns fingers, which nothing protects from fire. The nose of the lighter is so long that it allows you to keep your hand at a great distance from the flashing burner. If you do not bring your hands to the light burning at the end on purpose, then the risk of getting blisters tends to zero.

However, many shoppers still leave a match line on their shopping lists. Whatever the advantages of a kitchen lighter, it also has its own disadvantages.

  • Requires refueling or replacement of nutrients. A gas lighter has a lifetime. After the gas runs out, you will have to either buy a new one (if this is an inexpensive option), or refuel the existing one.
  • Doesn't work without electricity. Those lighters that are powered from the mains will not work when the lights are turned off. Sometimes this becomes a significant drawback, since it is simply impossible to even light a candle while the plugs have been knocked out or there has been a rush on the line.
  • There is a risk of breakage. Despite a fairly simple device, any kitchen lighter can break. This usually happens if you drop it on a tile or put something heavy on its body. Ordinary matches will fail only if they are damp. In order to avoid breakdowns, you should choose quality products and handle them carefully.
  • Not so economical. Lighters that require constant battery changes or gas refueling are often more expensive than regular matches. However, the batteries can be replaced with special batteries that will be recharged from the mains, which will significantly increase savings.

Types and their structure

Before going to the store for a purchase, you should carefully study all existing types of kitchen lighters. Each of them is good in certain circumstances, so you don't have to give up several options.

Household gas

Developed back in Soviet times, such a lighter is a small case, which contains a filled gas cylinder, and an ignition system in the form of silicon or crystal. When you press the trigger or a button, a small flame of flame appears at the end of its spout, which can easily ignite both a conventional burner and an oven. Such a device is safe and convenient, it is very inexpensive and is sold in almost any store. With a gas lighter, you can not only turn on the stove, but also make a fire in the fireplace or make a fire during a trip to the countryside. She has no wires or chargers.

Unfortunately, the service life of such a lighter is very short, literally 3-4 months. After that, you will need to fill the cylinder with gas, if possible, or purchase a new one. However, such a kitchen assistant costs no more than 100 rubles, and therefore such frequent replacements are not affordable.

On piezoelectric elements

Another highly mobile device for lighting a kitchen fire is a piezo lighter. It also does not have a wire, and instead of a flame, after pressing the lever, a small arc of electric discharge occurs at its end. Such piezoelectric devices contain special crystals, from the compression of which an electric spark is generated. Unlike gas lighters, such lighters are designed for a certain number of clicks and cannot be refueled.

However, given the very low price, you can always buy them in reserve and put them in your kitchen cabinet. High safety, convenient body and low cost make such piezo lighters a very popular product, collecting a lot of positive reviews.

Electrical

Such a device looks more solid and expensive. The electric lighter has a cord with a plug that is connected to a 220 volt network. After pressing the key, a short electric arc appears at the end of its nose, like a piezo crystal, which ignites the gas in the stove. Such a device has a very long service life compared to the first two types. Its convenience most often depends on the length of the cord, which limits the mobility of the lighter. Unfortunately, like any household appliance connected to the network, an electric lighter can with some probability cause an electric shock if used improperly. Therefore, in families with small children, it is better to refuse such a device. Its cost depends on the store and the manufacturer, but ranges from 200 to 1000 rubles.

Electronic

Such rechargeable lighters work both on conventional batteries and on various rechargeable batteries. They are arranged in such a way that when you press the button, a tiny spark is generated. Of course, making a fire with such a spark will not work, but it is quite possible to set fire to a gas stove or boiler. Inside the case there is a battery compartment and a small electronic circuit that allows you to get this very spark.

In the event that ordinary batteries are used for power, such a lighter requires constant consumption to purchase them. At the same time, the cost of the device itself is also not small. Depending on the quality, manufacturer and market segment, it can cost as much as several hundred or several thousand rubles. Such lighters do not like moisture and are not resistant to mechanical damage, but they are very convenient to use and look the most stylish and modern.

How to choose?

In order for the selected product to serve as long as possible, when buying, you should pay attention to several basic parameters.

  • Appearance. The product should not have defects visible to the eye: chips, scratches, cracks. Its surface should be flat, without dents and bulges.
  • The integrity of the case. This parameter is especially important when buying a gas lighter. The slightest hole or crack, and the gas will disappear from the new lighter even before arriving home.
  • Build quality. All mechanisms must work properly, the connections must be tight, without gaps. It is good if the store has the opportunity to test an electric or rechargeable lighter. This will make it clearer what its quality is.
  • Price and manufacturer. You should not stop your choice on cheap Asian fakes. It is better to opt for a more popular domestic or foreign brand. Before going to the store, you can read customer reviews online and decide on a few favorites of the market.

It doesn't matter which model is ultimately preferred. Even the most expensive lighter can break if handled carelessly, and an inexpensive gas lighter bought at the nearest store will last at least a year with careful use.
