How to turn off the gas stove yourself?

It is almost impossible to imagine a modern house without a gas stove. Of course, electric stoves are often used, but the gas stove itself is more popular, since it can be installed in any apartment, it is durable, and it heats food or water much faster.

During repairs, there is often a need to turn off the stove, since it will need to be moved or completely removed from the kitchen for a while. And if the electric stove can be simply and quickly turned off from the outlet, then with a gas stove, things are more complicated, and the action itself can be very dangerous.

Before disconnecting the stove from the gas supply, you should find out if this does not contradict the law. In accordance with the Housing Code of the Russian Federation (Article 5.5.2), only organizations specially designated for this have the right to dismantle equipment. The employee who will perform the action must be properly qualified and have a valid work permit.

For any - even the smallest actions - homeowners are required to notify gas services (for example, changing the conditions for using the device or disconnecting / connecting the mains). Naturally, calling a professional worker is not the cheapest solution, so many people prefer to get down to business on their own. Turning off the gas supply is a simple matter, but it requires experience, attention and full concentration.

It is dangerous, within the framework of the law, to connect the stove after disconnecting on its own, but if you do this immediately after carrying out work in the same configurations prescribed by the contract, then the gas control will not see any changes. However, when replacing parts of gas equipment, you will have to contact services and report the changes.

In such work, negligence and disregard for the rules, even the simplest ones, which, at first glance, are not of any importance, are unacceptable. However, if you follow them all, you can avoid many troubles and problems.

Several points noted below will help protect yourself from trouble.

1. Complete shutdown of any electrical appliances, including lighting. Even a small spark can be dangerous, so all devices are turned off, and equipment like phones and tablets is taken to other rooms. It is best, of course, to turn off the general power supply.
2. High-quality ventilation of the room, preventing the accumulation of gas. This refers to open windows, interior doors and a working standard house exhaust system. Remember that electrical appliances must be turned off! A draft should walk around the apartment or house.
3. Use of a suitable tool. Keys must be of the same size (gas keys numbers 1 and 2 are suitable here). Never use steel keys (only safety keys: brass and plastic).
4. Before starting work, it is necessary to close the valves on the riser and de-energize the stove completely.
5. Each pipe is closed with a plug before starting the next operation.
6. Leak test.This can be done by applying a thick soapy solution and then applying gas.

To avoid unexpected or dangerous situations, all tools must be ready before starting work, and the shutdown of the gas supply itself is performed in a certain sequence.

1. According to safety regulations, de-energize the room and turn off the gas valve.
2. Disconnect the union from the line. The valve is taken with a wrench # 2, and the nut is taken with a wrench # 1 and unscrewed with effort.
3. Wrap the empty part of the pipe with special tape and put on the plug.
4. Check the tightness of the joints (in this case, you need to open the gas valve again, but after the check, close it back).
5. If the tightness is in order, disconnect the central gas supply hose.

To reconnect the stove after the work has been done, you need to contact specialized services, because if the disconnection can sometimes be done independently, then the connection will in any case be considered illegal and can be fined.

Additional security measures:

• Windows are opened not only in the kitchen, but throughout the apartment. Such additional thrust when dismantling the stove will not allow gas to accumulate in any of the rooms.
• You should work only during daylight hours so as not to use lighting devices that can cause an accidental spark and lead to an emergency.
• If the equipment and the gas pipeline are old, then it is better not to work with them yourself, since the possibility of damaging something or getting a gas leak is much higher.
