Growing flowers is very exciting. Even if they are quite ordinary. And the Primavera peony certainly cannot be classified as an “ordinary” plant.

Specificity of culture

The herbaceous perennial "Primavera" forms a powerful root system, distinguished by its fleshiness. The relatively high strength of the stems does not mean that you can refuse to tie them up. In the descriptions of the variety, it is invariably noted that it has very large flowers (up to 18 centimeters in diameter). They are characterized by pink and cream colors. The center of the flowers is usually darker than the rest.

The petals of Primavera have a double texture. The leaves of the plant are large and shiny, as if covered with wax. The climatic conditions for this peony are not too significant. It is noted that it survives frosty periods well and has good immunity to diseases. Life expectancy in one place without transplants exceeds 2 decades.

This peony variety will survive even with the onset of late frosts. Occasionally only the buds suffer. In this case, the rest of the plant remains intact. The height of the bush reaches from 90 to 100 centimeters.

Large bushes during flowering are completely covered with very delicate looking flowers.

Disembarkation and leaving

Peony "Primavera" for all its unpretentiousness will respond very well to full care. The basic requirements for a plot of land are as follows:

  • loamy soil without liquid stagnation;
  • abundant lighting;
  • minimum permeability to wind.

Important: the first 24 months will be spent on the development of the root complex. You can wait for flowering only in the third season.

Before planting, it is required to prepare a groove with the same diameter and depth - 0.6 meters. At the same time, a distance of at least 70 centimeters is left between neighboring peonies. 10-12 kg of humus are poured into the ditch, 0.2 kg each of potash mixtures and superphosphate.

After filling, all this is properly mixed. The hole must be covered with fertile soil. Then they just wait a few days. And only then the landing itself begins. A common mistake when planting is to overburden the planting material.

Normally, the buds of the plant must be lifted above the surface. If this requirement is violated, flowering will have to wait for a very long time. The basic care measures are quite simple, but must be followed. They systematically get rid of weeds and loosen the soil. Once every 6 months, you need to feed the peony; it should be watered generously.

Additional Information

Peony "Primavera" was introduced into the culture in 1907. The main merit belongs to the French selection school. Over the past 100 years, the variety has been mastered by gardeners all over the planet. When the buds are fully open, their central part becomes as bright as possible. In this case, the appearance of the edges of the petals does not change.

When the flowering is already on the decline, the plant turns white from top to bottom. The only measure to prepare the tubers themselves for planting is to wet them in a solution of potassium permanganate. The tubers are quite strong, they do not need any other help.

Important: both when washing with potassium permanganate, and during planting itself, one must beware of kidney damage. If something happens to them, the new plant will simply not form.

Heavy shading is very dangerous for this peony. However, in this case, the plant can be planted on the western side of the site. Protection from gusts of wind is most important in the first two seasons.You can speed up the development of the plant by planting it in the autumn months. Planting in spring can cause the peony to grow too early; the buds that did not have time to take root will disappear.

If you mulch "Primavera", then only with a combination of equal amounts of peat and simple wood ash. However, a large part of flower growers do not use mulch at all. According to agronomists, such a measure is also optional. For winter cover for peonies, use:

  • fir paws;
  • old wooden boxes and boxes;
  • sawdust;
  • other suitable household products.

But as soon as the spring frosts end, the protective layer is immediately removed. Adult plants should be watered with 10–20 liters of water 2 or 3 times a week. Important: when the soil dries out very quickly, irrigation should occur more often. When the fertilized soil was initially used, it is not necessary to lay additional nutrients until after three years. You can transplant peonies in the fall, the technology of work is about the same as at the initial planting.

How to transplant peonies correctly is described in the video.
