Peonies are luxurious perennials. These flowers deservedly enjoy the love and attention of gardeners. a brief description of

Peony "Felix Krauss" - an old variety originally from France, was created in 1881. Grows up to 90 centimeters in height. Differs in frost resistance, reliability and increased decorative effect.

Blossoms closer to the middle of summer. Flowers with a diameter of about 17 cm, hemispherical, double, red, with a carmine-purple tint and a pleasant delicate aroma. Leaves and stems are dark green.

How to grow?

The first thing to start with is to choose the most suitable location. It is best to place the peony in a sunny area, protected from strong winds and excessive moisture.

The soil should be loose, fertile.

Planting pits (60 by 60 centimeters in size and, accordingly, the same depth) are prepared in advance, a month before disembarkation.

Two or three buckets of well-rotted dry humus or compost are poured onto the bottom, a glass of superphosphate and potassium sulfate, a half-liter jar of ash each. Mix everything thoroughly. If the soil is heavy, clayey, add a little sand and stir again.

It can be planted both in spring and early autumn (late August - first half of September). Autumn planting is preferable, since young bushes will have time to take root and prepare for winter, and with the onset of warmth they will immediately grow.

Delenka is placed in a pit so that the upper buds are recessed by 3-4 centimeters. No more and no less.

Important: with a deep or too shallow planting, peonies will not bloom.

Then the plant is watered, if necessary, add more earth and mulch with a suitable material - sawdust, crushed dry grass, humus.

Mature shrubs grow to large sizes both in height and in width. Therefore, the distance between young plantings should be at least one and a half meters. Otherwise, normal air ventilation will be disrupted, and this, in turn, will lead to decay and disease. Preventive spraying with the drug is useful against fungal infections. "Fitosporin" (according to the instructions).

Further care consists in weeding, timely watering, loosening the soil around the bushes.

In summer, pests can attack plants - caterpillars, aphids. They are destroyed with insecticides. However, it should be remembered that processing cannot be carried out during flowering.

In autumn, the aboveground part is cut off with a garden pruner, leaving 10-15 centimeters. In regions with a cold climate, peonies need to be sheltered for the winter.

The first flowering usually occurs in the second or third year after planting. During this period, you can already start feeding the plants. Before the buds bloom, potassium-phosphorus fertilizers are applied, which have a beneficial effect on the development of flowers.

Of course, growing peonies is not easy. They require attention and care. But what beauty they pay for it!
