Breeding

You always want to have a plant variety you like not in a single copy. To do this, you need to propagate the existing bush. The most popular breeding method for peonies is by dividing the bush. The most favorable time for this procedure will be late summer or early autumn. To get the most out of your transplant, you need to:

  • choose the right planting site with suitable soil;
  • carefully dig up the peony bush without damaging the tubers;
  • divide the rhizome into fragments by treating them with a solution of heteroauxin;
  • make a sand cushion in the prepared holes.

Features of preparation for transplant

So, for planting peony "America" the most favorable will be the sunny side of the site or front garden with loamy soil. Holes must be dug in advance, filling them with a mixture of earth, peat and humus. You should also add a handful of birch ash and additionally fertilize with superphosphate and iron sulfate.

For planting, you need to choose a large bush that is more than 3 years old. The stems should grow at some distance from each other, and it is important that their number is more than seven. The peony should be dug out with a garden pitchfork to avoid damage to the rhizome.

You will have to work hard here, since the tubers are very fragile and can go up to 1 meter deep.

It is advisable to rinse the dug out rhizome well in order to identify flaws and get rid of rotten parts. Cut the green stems, leaving about 10 cm.So that the roots do not crumble when dividing, they need to be put in a cool place for several hours to lose their fragility.

Now you can divide the bush. The rhizome is cut into fragments of about 15 cm in the presence of 3-4 buds and several adventitious roots. This size of planting material is the most optimal. Larger or smaller ones require extra care and are too whimsical.

Planting and growing

The cut parts of the peony bush must be disinfected in a solution of potassium permanganate for about half an hour. Sprinkle fresh cuts with chopped charcoal. To increase the survival rate, each section should be dipped in a thick clay solution with the addition of 2 heteroauxin tablets per bucket of water and 50 g of copper sulfate. Dry the roots until a dense coating is formed.

Make a depression in the prepared hole, pour sand on the bottom... Place the peonies in the hole, sprinkle with the previously prepared mixture. The buds should be located 3-5 cm from the ground.

At first, frequent and abundant watering of plants is shown. To avoid drying out, the soil must be mulched.

Care

In order for the fruit of American selection to quickly begin to delight you with lush greenery and bright flowers, it is necessary to provide the plants with proper care. This includes timely irrigation, loosening, pest control and pruning.
