One of the most popular garden plants is petunia. Nowadays, a beautiful flower is planted not only in flower beds, but also on balconies and window sills. A spectacular variety of petunia "Valentina" is perfect for "home" planting. The hybrid is new, but has already won the love of Russian gardeners.

General information

An amazing flower called "petunia" is a decoration of flower beds in different parts of the world. His homeland is sunny Brazil. The name of the plant comes from the Brazilian word petun (tobacco). Many years later, the word changed into "petunia". In Russian parks, as a rule, a hybrid plant grows. The "birth" of the first double petunia varieties is dated 1855, and large-flowered varieties appeared in 1881. The plant has the shape of a small bush.

Characteristic

"Valentina" is a large-flowered terry grandiflora. Its distinctive feature is the flowers in the form of a gramophone. Several factors can be attributed to the advantages of this variety.

  1. Fast growing hybrid of early flowering.
  2. A miniature plant with excellent branching.
  3. During the flowering period, "Valentina" is densely covered with beautiful buds.
  4. Possesses increased resistance to weather disasters.
  5. It has gorgeous coral red double flowers with ruffled edges.
  6. Suitable for decorating balcony and window boxes. And also this variety of petunia involves the use of hanging baskets and pots.
  7. Differs in long flowering from early summer to late autumn.

"Valentina" grows up to 40 cm in height. Its inflorescences are rather large (up to 12 cm in diameter). As they grow, the shoots are mixed, creating a real "flower cascade".

How to grow?

Large-flowered petunia is propagated by seeds or cuttings. The seeds are sown on the surface of the soil, which includes humus and sand, and the soil is slightly moistened with a spray bottle. Seedlings are sown from February to April. The sooner the seeds are sown, the sooner you will enjoy the beautiful flowers of Valentina.

The seed box is covered with glass or a special film to maintain the required humidity. Seedlings need control. Over time, water droplets will appear on the glass, which must be removed with a towel. Otherwise, high humidity will contribute to the formation of fungal diseases. Comfortable temperature for seedlings is up to 24 degrees above zero. "February" crops need illumination (use a special phytolamp). Lack of light can lead to the death of the plant.

As soon as the first shoots appear on the surface of the soil (after 12-14 days), we can talk about a pick. Experienced gardeners say that if after two weeks the seeds have not sprouted, then you should not wait for their further appearance.

The picking of sprouts implies their transplantation into separate containers. Capacities vary from bulky pots to small plastic cups. Note that the large-flowered variety has an extensive root system, so petunias need a lot of space to grow.

In this regard, the picking process may involve several stages. At first, I use small containers, and then plant them in large pots. The procedure can be repeated as needed, and you end up with a plant with a massive root system and formed buds. These seedlings will be ready to be planted outdoors.

After the pick, the air temperature is gradually reduced to 13-15 degrees Celsius.

How to care?

Beautiful "Valentina" adores warmth and light. In a dark place, you should not expect extensive flowering. Large-flowered petunia positively perceives feeding and watering. You can use universal fertilizer for flower plants (once a week), and thoroughly loosen the soil. Excessive moisture will lead to root rot and the formation of fungi. Therefore, do not allow stagnant water. Withered inflorescences and leaves should be cut off.

Reviews

Reviews of the petunia "Valentina" are enthusiastic in most cases. Gardeners note its unpretentiousness and aesthetic appearance: the plant is branched and strong, with long flowering. In addition, the owners of "Valentina" emphasize the amazing beauty of the lush double buds and inform that the large-flowered petunia is perfect for group plantings, pots and flowerpots.
