When and how to plant ampelous petunia for seedlings?
Ampel petunia is a rather interesting and beautiful flower, but in order to grow it, you need some knowledge. In this article, we'll talk about how to plant petunia seedlings with seeds. This is the most popular breeding method for such a plant.
Peculiarities
If it is possible to create an artificial type of lighting for seedlings, then sowing the seeds of decorative petunias can begin in February. When this is not possible, then it is worth waiting for mid-March, it is during this period that the length of daylight becomes the longest, and these favorable conditions will provide petunia with the required amount of light.
Soil preparation
For sowing, you should use loose soil with nutrients, while its structure should be light. When preparing such a planting soil on your own, you will need the following necessary components:
- sand;
- leafy or soddy soil;
- humus;
- peat.
At the same time, the top layer of such soil should be created as light as possible, respectively, it is best to sift it. Water the prepared soil about one day before sowing the seeds.
Dry sand is added to the flower seeds, after the seedlings can be placed in the soil.
Seedling care
To speed up the process of seed germination at home, the container for placing the sowing must be covered with a special film, you can use glass. The plant must be transferred to a living room in which the temperature is maintained at 22 degrees Celsius.
The very first shoots should appear in a week. As soon as the seedlings have appeared, they immediately need to be carefully cared for. That is, the seedlings must be watered several times a day, or rather, sprayed. For spraying, you can use water, while the liquid should be at room temperature.
It is necessary to ventilate the room to provide the seedlings with a fresh air flow. The room must maintain an optimal level of humidity, otherwise it will be quite difficult to grow healthy seedlings. It is necessary to monitor the level of humidity, the appearance of condensation is contraindicated, which can affect the seedlings with various diseases. As soon as the seedlings acquire the first fresh leaves, the film is immediately removed.
Watering with fertilizers
An ornamental plant such as petunia has too high demands on the growing process. Therefore, unknowing florists may have difficulties and questions at the initial stage. This decorative flower will demonstrate all its magnificent properties only when it is fed with nutrients.
For petunias, watering is also considered very important, the plant should be watered daily.
If the seedlings of decorative petunia do not receive enough moisture, the plant may simply get sick, the onset of the manifestation of diseases can be determined by the corresponding signs, for example, if the leaves become sticky. But in order for the plant to receive all the necessary nutrients, it is recommended to feed with special compositions, that is, to add nutrients to the mail with each watering.
The best feeding effect will be achieved only if the basic rules are followed:
- the first week, watering should be done with water with humates;
- the second week, watering is carried out together with potassium sulfate.
Planting flowers
If the seedlings of the ampelous plant have grown stronger, you can begin to choose suitable pots or hanging pots, where the flower will be planted. This process can be carried out without difficulties, if you take into account the relevant recommendations.
- It is better to land in the evening and in cloudy weather conditions.
- Experienced growers recommend transferring seedlings with soil taken from a flower pot or pots where the seeds germinated.
- It is necessary to prepare holes for planting seedlings at least 10x10 cm in size.
- When replanting varieties with rather large flowers, plants should be placed at a distance of 24 cm from each other. But for varieties with small flowers, it will be sufficient to withstand a distance of 19 cm.If ampelous petunia is planted with bushes, then a distance of 29 cm should be observed.
- After the completion of the transplantation process, activities should be carried out that will speed up the rooting process. For example, the soil can be mulched with humus (peat). Thus, the plants will be protected from frost, and it will be possible to maintain optimal humidity.
- After completing the indicated transplanting steps, the flower should be watered.
Closer to July, the shoots will grow strongly, and excess copies will need to be removed. By the way, the plant grows so much if there is no necessary and timely care. Such unfavorable conditions can lead to exposure of the shoots in the lower part of them. Because of this, new leaves with buds will appear only at the tops, thus, over time, the flower without care will become not very attractive, the plant will begin to grow more slowly, because it simply does not receive all the vital and nutrients.
And here to maintain the attractive appearance and healthy structure of the petunia, the shoots need to be pinched on time... What is the essence of this process and how to carry it out? In fact, everything is simple. The shoot of the plant should be removed 2/3 of its entire length. Thanks to this operation, it will turn out to form an ampelous petunia beautifully and correctly.
Such timely care will ensure the attractiveness of the flower for the entire growing season.
Seed collection
To extend the flowering period of this ornamental plant, you need to cut off the already fading flowers in time. That's just this type of inflorescence that supplies the seeds. Accordingly, when flowering appears, you need to start observing the flowers at the very bottom and choose the most suitable ones there. Usually they use buds that have already withered, but they also managed to fully ripen. This is what is considered to be a guarantee of high quality healthy seeds. Full ripening of seeds occurs in 2.5 months.
Petunia is considered a unique plant, because all its decorative properties may not be revealed without proper care and appropriate knowledge.
A novice gardener without the necessary experience will face a rather serious problem if he plans to plant a flower in open ground.
Such a capricious plant can be grown if you follow all the recommendations of experienced florists and rely on their many years of experience. The seedling technique will reduce the risks and, as a result, a healthy and strong decorative petunia will grow. Only in this way the grower will receive hardened, and most importantly, healthy seedlings. With proper care during planting, they will feel comfortable in a prepared flower bed.
