Rotary hammer mixers: how to choose and use?
At a construction site of any scale, it becomes necessary to stir various liquids and solutions. This can be done both with a special tool and with various auxiliary machines. In the second case, if the amount of the solution to be treated is small, it is useful to use a mixer for a perforator.
Peculiarities
There are good reasons to consider a hammer drill. Its internal structure is very close to that of a stand-alone mixer. Both mechanisms have an electric motor that generates torque and transfers it to the shaft. Already the shaft serves as the base for the specialized attachment. Therefore, the key operating parameters are closely related to the energy released by the electric motor.
The hammer drill can be found on construction and repair sites more often than other tools that have a rotating part. A suitable mode for mixing solutions is the imitation of a drill. The system easily adjusts the number of revolutions on command. If you have to mix the most viscous liquid, it is advisable to choose a mixer with a short blade length. But it is important to understand that the hammer drill itself is an expensive and highly sensitive device, it easily breaks down.
Hot topic
So, according to the technical characteristics, it is quite possible to interfere with the solution with the perforator itself. But this is expensive and impractical. However, one should not abandon the idea at all, it has its own rational grain. It is quite possible to accomplish the task with the help of a perforator, and even with minimal negative consequences. You just need to use the correct attachment.
Choosing the right product
Rock drill mixers have two main parts: a shank and a working whisk. The size of the tip will vary depending on the type of media to be mixed and the scope of work to be done. Manufacturers always describe in the accompanying materials which mixtures can be mixed. As with other products, it is useful to give preference to products from well-known companies. Even the multiple difference in comparison with unknown brands is fully justified by the high quality of the products.
Much attention should be paid to the selection of whisks according to the shank format. Traditionally, they have a cylindrical or hexagonal configuration. Also in some cases M14 and SDL-Plus connectors are used. The choice is determined by which connector is provided by the manufacturers of the punch. Bosch Corporation, for example, equips its products with SDL-Plus connectors.
Most often, you can simply tell the sellers which device the mixer is purchased for. They will be able to offer the optimal attachment. The basket of a regular whisk is from 10 to 11 cm with a diameter of 8-15 cm. If the hammer drill is very powerful or you have to mix a lot of solutions, it is better to choose a larger basket. As for the length of the mixer, the choice is simple - you need to focus on the height of the container where the solution will be mixed.
Whisks from 50 to 60 cm long allow you to calmly stir the putty in a plastic bucket. Or shake up the plaster in the extra drawer. With a speed of 600 rpm, the mixer can handle even heavy and viscous media with confidence. When repairs are planned, a household-level nozzle will do. But for building a house, it is advisable to choose something more serious.
How to knead the solution with a perforator longer
When a device is selected, a problem may occur due to premature shutdowns. The reason is simple:
- rotary hammer motors operate with air cooling;
- the rotation speed of the fan coincides with the rate of operation of the shaft;
- if a viscous liquid is mixed, the revolutions are low, and the effort is significant;
- therefore the motor overheats quickly.
The electronics prevents the hammer from starting again until it has completely cooled down. Attempts to remove the sensor from the system, bypass it, or disable it will only lead to premature failure of the device. The cardinal solution to the problem is the use of external coolers. But all the same, if the volume of work is very large, and they have to be carried out often, it is better to buy a stand-alone construction mixer. Of course, we are not talking about the renovation of one room, but about constant large-scale work.
Additional recommendations
Using a punch, you can mix a variety of substances:
- all types of plaster;
- cement;
- putty;
- tile adhesive.
When performing such work, it is unacceptable to use the shock mode. It is also unacceptable that the mixed liquid gets on the equipment. Both the perforator itself and the mixer, after the end of the work, must be thoroughly washed and dried at room temperature. This helps to extend the life of the device.
Attention: if dusty compounds are mixed, it is better to wear a respirator when working.
If the working part of the apparatus is clogged with glue, it is necessary to stop it, disconnect it from the mains and wash off the contamination. If you do not do this in a timely manner, you may be afraid of failure. It is imperative to ensure that the wires are correctly positioned. Winding them on a whisk can result in serious injuries. The perforator must be held firmly in your hands, not to be distracted by extraneous stimuli.
The number of revolutions is adjusted in accordance with how deeply the whisk is immersed. If mixed at full speed at the very top of the bucket, splashes are inevitable. As soon as the kneading is completed, reduce the speed and remove the whisk. Immediately immerse it in a bucket of clean water, and run it again for 2-3 seconds to completely cleanse. This technique allows you to re-prepare the instrument for work.
