When choosing a pepper for planting in a greenhouse or on a garden ridge, it is worth considering not only the ease of care and yield, but also how the culture is adapted to the climatic characteristics of the region. For cultivation in the North Caucasian region of the country, fatty peppers, of domestic selection, will be ideal.
Breeding history
This type of pepper was bred at the All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources named after V.I. N.I. Vavilov in 2002. The author of the vegetable crop is the famous breeder Kapustina R.N.
The plant is cultivated both on garden ridges and in greenhouse structures. The mid-season variety is the most productive in the North Caucasus region.
Description of the variety
The fat man is a medium-sized bush that grows up to 50-54 cm in height in a favorable environment. The plant is characterized by semi-spreading branches, moderate thickening of bright green leaves with a wrinkled surface, drooping fruit position (nose down), a developed root system and a mixed flowering type. The culture belongs to self-pollinating species. On a healthy bush, 6-8 large and evened peppers ripen.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
The fruits stand out among many congeners for their attractive presentation. The variety is large-fruited. As a rule, vegetables ripen on bushes weighing from 65 to 200 grams (average fruit weight - 130 g) and 10-12 cm long. The pepper got its name due to the fact that it is wide in diameter - 6.5-8 cm. The shape of the vegetable neat - prismatic.
At the stage of technical maturity, the pepper has a light green color, and when fully ripe, it acquires a uniform bright red cover. The fruit peel is quite dense (5.2-10 mm thick), smooth, shiny, with moderately pronounced ribs. Due to the clear ribs, the vegetable is easily cut into neat slices.
Thanks to the thick peel, vegetables are well transported and also have a long shelf life. It is also worth noting that, having removed the peppers from the bush at the stage of technical maturity, one can count on their rapid ripening in a warm and dark place. Vegetables ripen best in a box, rewound with paper, where you need to place a few ripe apples or a banana.
Purpose and taste
The fruit tastes excellent. Pepper pulp is endowed with a fleshy, firm, tender, slightly crunchy and juicy structure without wateriness. The taste is harmonious - sweet, without bitterness and pungency. A feature of the variety is the increased content of ascorbic acid in the pulp.
Ripe peppers can be eaten fresh, added to salads, cold and hot dishes, used in the decor of holiday dishes, stuffed, pickled, canned, frozen, and also processed into various sauces.
Ripening terms
Pepper Fatty is a class of mid-season varieties. From the moment of mass germination to the ripening of the first fruits on the bushes, 115-118 days pass. Peppers spice together. By removing vegetables at the technical maturity stage, you can slightly increase the yield, allowing new peppers to grow. The peak of ripening and fruiting occurs in the second half of July - early August.
Yield
The variety is characterized by good yield indicators. On average, 4.5-5 kg of juicy peppers can be harvested from 1 m2 of plantings. When growing vegetables for commercial purposes, you can count on 167-348 c / ha.
Landing scheme
When planting peppers, the distance between the plants, as well as the density, should be observed, which will allow each pepper bush to receive sufficient light, air and heat. It is recommended to plant 5-7 seedling bushes per 1 m2. Peppers are planted according to the 40x60 cm scheme.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and caring
Vegetables are grown mainly by seedlings. Pepper bushes are planted in garden beds and greenhouses in the second half of May. For planting in open ground, it is necessary to take into account how warm the soil is and how stable the air temperature is.
Crop care consists of standard activities: regular irrigation with warm water, top dressing 3-4 times per season (phosphorus-potassium fertilizers), soil plowing, formation, thinning and tying of a bush, prevention of viruses and pest attacks.
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
Soil requirements
The soil should be loose, fertile, moisture and air permeable, and also have neutral acidity. When planting a crop in heavy soil, it is recommended to abundantly feed the plant with organic complexes.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Required climatic conditions
Planting pepper is carried out in an area where there is a lot of light and heat, and there is also no stagnant water, strong winds and drafts. It is better if it is a small hill where diffused light is observed.
Disease and pest resistance
The immunity of the variety is average, but if agricultural technology is followed, the disease can be prevented. Most often, pepper is exposed to late blight, black leg and pillar.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
