Among the many varieties of peppers offered for cultivation in garden beds and in greenhouses, mid-season varieties of Moldovan selection are in great demand. One of the most popular is the Novogogoshary pepper, which even a beginner can grow.
Breeding history
Novogogoshary is a pepper variety obtained thanks to the efforts of Moldovan breeders. Pepper was brought out more than 30 years ago at the Moldavian Research Institute. The parent form of this variety is Gogoshary pepper.
Description of the variety
The Moldavian pepper variety can grow productively in any climatic zone of Russia. The vegetable crop is suitable for cultivation both in the garden bed and in the greenhouse structure.
The Novogogoshary pepper is a medium-sized standard bush that grows up to 45-50 cm in height in a favorable environment. The plant is characterized by semi-spreading branches, medium foliage with bright green leaves, a compact root system and a powerful central stem. In addition, it should be noted that the plant has a mixed flowering type. 6-7 fruits ripen on a healthy bush.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
This variety is famous for its even and attractive fruits. Pepper belongs to large-fruited varieties. On average, vegetables ripen on the bushes weighing from 90 to 140 grams and up to 10-11 cm long. The shape of the vegetable is very unusual and attractive - round-flat, outwardly reminiscent of a miniature pumpkin.
At the stage of technical maturity, the vegetable has a dark green color, and after full ripening, the pepper acquires a uniform rich red cover. The peel of the peppers is quite dense (up to 8-10 mm thick), with noticeable ribbing and gloss.
The harvested crop transfers transportation over long distances, and can also be stored for a long time (7-10 days in the refrigerator) without loss of taste and marketability. In addition, peppers can ripen at room temperature.
Purpose and taste
Pepper has excellent taste. Pepper pulp is endowed with a fleshy, tender, juicy consistency. The taste is dominated by pleasant sweetness, complemented by a pronounced aroma. There are few seeds inside the vegetable. When the seed is cut, a pungent pungency may appear in the taste of the vegetable.
Ripe vegetables are recommended to be eaten fresh, stuffed, added to salads, in various hot dishes, as well as pickled, canned and frozen.
Ripening terms
The Novogogoshary pepper belongs to the category of medium early varieties. The growing season lasts 110-115 days. The culture is characterized by intense fruiting. Ripening of peppers occurs gradually, in several stages, which allows you to harvest 2-3 times per season. The tasting period starts in August and the harvest lasts until the end of September.
Yield
The variety is declared fruitful. Observing all the rules of agricultural technology, up to 4 kg of fleshy peppers can be collected per 1 m2 of plantings.
Landing scheme
When growing a crop, important components are not only agricultural technology, but also respecting the distance between plantings and planting density, which provide access to heat, air and light to the plants. You can have 4-5 bushes per 1 m2. The correct layout for planting is 50x35 cm.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and care
The culture is grown by the seedling method. It is recommended to plant bushes in the garden during the period when the soil and air are sufficiently warmed up, that is, in the first half of June. Seedlings (age 55-60 days) should be strong, healthy with 2-3 true leaves and a developed rhizome. The best predecessors of this crop are potatoes, onions and carrots.
Caring for sweet peppers consists of basic procedures - irrigation with settled water (the soil should be moistened, but not waterlogged), top dressing (3-4 times per season), weeding and loosening (should be careful due to the fragility of the plant root system), thinning and the formation of bushes, a garter to the support if necessary, as well as the prevention of viruses and pest infestations.
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
Soil requirements
The plant is most comfortable to grow in areas with loose, breathing, moist and fertile soil, which has low acidity. It is important that the flow of groundwater is deep, since stagnant moisture can negatively affect the development and fruiting of a vegetable crop.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Required climatic conditions
Moldavian pepper is a thermophilic culture, therefore it is painful to endure the slightest cold snap. The plant should be grown in an area where there is a lot of light and sun, there is air circulation, as well as protection from drafts and cold winds.
Disease and pest resistance
The Novogogoshary pepper is resistant to a number of diseases, therefore it is rarely affected by powdery mildew, late blight and gray rot. Dangerous pests for the plant are aphids and the Colorado potato beetle, especially if potatoes are growing nearby.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
