Gardeners of the 70s and 80s in the last century could be content with only 3-4 varieties of sweet bell peppers (but what kind!). Californian miracle, Swallow, Gift of Moldova, Tenderness - all these cultures to this day, having gone through different times and many difficulties, enjoy the same popularity and are grown everywhere in the vast expanses of the country. The variety Tenderness is of particular interest to farmers in cold regions.
Breeding history
This variety, unique in its kind (specifically, a variety, not a hybrid), was created back in 1982 in St. Vavilov. The culture was called "Tenderness", and, most likely, this was facilitated by the work of the same name by A. Pakhmutova, which at that time was experiencing the peak of popularity. But this is one of the versions. Perhaps the choice of the name was influenced by the properties of the rather delicate skin and pulp of the fruits of the new variety.
In any case, in 1986, the variety was registered under this name in the State Register and recommended for cultivation in a number of regions of the country. At the same time, the southern territories of Russia did not appear in the recommendations, since in those years other promising varieties were intended for them, such as the Gift of Moldova, the California miracle. Initially, the variety Tenderness was bred to meet the needs of gardeners in the northern regions for the cultivation of bell pepper on their plots. Therefore, the culture was zoned for closed ground, including for the Murmansk, Arkhangelsk regions, as well as for Sakhalin, Kamchatka and the Primorsky Territory.
Description of the variety
It is interesting that some young farmers today plant Tenderness pepper according to tradition, as their mothers and even grandmothers planted it. But more often this is exactly the variety that is able to survive, and even bear fruit in very difficult conditions in the northern regions. The culture tolerates a little shading, and grows well with long daylight hours. A plant normally perceives both a short-term drop in temperature and significant temperature drops.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
The bushes of the Bulgarian variety Tenderness are standard, are considered medium-sized. Their height can reach 1.4-1.6 meters. Plants are powerful, with a rather thick central stem, with semi-sprawling shoots. The leaves are medium in size.
Peppers Tenderness of medium size, 10-12 centimeters long and 4-7 centimeters in diameter. Fruit weight - 100-110 grams. The wall thickness of the pepper is 6-8 mm, which is an excellent indicator for the old variety.
When the pepper reaches technical maturity, it turns yellow-green, then, as it ripens, the fruit turns orange, and then completely turns red.
Purpose and taste
As the name suggests, the skin of the fruit is tender and thin, and the texture of the pulp is very juicy. The taste characteristics of the peppers are excellent, the fruits are sweet, aromatic, there is a barely perceptible mustard aftertaste.
Product application is universal. Given its long-standing origin, it was most often used, and even now it is used for stuffing.
Ripening terms
Variety Tenderness is referred to as early peppers; on average, the time interval from the emergence of seedlings to the technical ripening of fruits is 80-85 days.
Yield
The culture is considered to be high yielding. On average, gardeners collect 1.7-1.9 kilograms of red fruits from a bush.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and care
For seedlings, seed material of sweet pepper Tenderness begins to be sown after February 15 and continues until March 15, depending on the region. The seeds of this culture germinate from 2 to 3 weeks. When two leaves appear, you can pick in separate containers.
When transshipment of grown seedlings into the ground / greenhouse, no more than 3-4 plants are placed on a permanent place on an area of 1 m2.
The first feeding takes place 2 weeks after the transplant. For this, a solution of humate is used. When the bushes reach a height of 15-20 centimeters, when they begin to branch slightly, they form a bush. The cultivar is characterized by plant management in 2 stems. This is the best option for greenhouse cultivation of tall pepper crops in northern latitudes.
To obtain a high yield of the crop in question, regular moderate watering will also be required.
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Disease and pest resistance
As with all crops bred earlier, pepper's resistance to diseases and harmful insects is average. However, properly pruning and shaping the shrubs improves ventilation of the plant, which reduces the likelihood of infection and pest penetration. At the same time, the variety has a record hardiness and resistance to adverse weather conditions.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
