Not only domestic breeding is in demand among gardeners. Pepper Magno is a representative of Dutch Labor. He appeared on the territory of Russia relatively recently, but he was already able to fall in love with many summer residents. It is appreciated for its good yield and unpretentiousness.
Breeding history
As mentioned earlier, Magno pepper is a Dutch variety. Seed production is carried out by Enza Zaden, which, in turn, is one of the five largest Dutch companies involved in the production of seeds and new crops. The variety appeared on the territory of Russia in 2015.
So far, there is no supplier breeder in Russia who will be the representative of the Dutch company. Therefore, many gardeners buy seeds directly. But in one package, they often send from 250 to 500 seeds. Some summer residents unite in teams and massively acquire seedlings.
Often due to the fact that not representative offices, but other companies produce Magno pepper under their own name, the seeds are fake. Many gardeners note this, since the purchased seeds do not meet the characteristics that were originally stated.
Description of the variety
Pepper Magno belongs to the universal varieties. It can be grown both in greenhouses and outdoors. In strong sunshine, it is necessary to cover open beds with agrofibre so that the bushes do not receive a severe burn.
The advantage of the variety is that the fruit has an excellent appearance. They give off a light, unobtrusive aroma, and the vegetables are very juicy. Thanks to good selection, the culture has a stable immunity to a number of fungal diseases. Due to the density of the peel, the fruits are stored in a dark and cool place for up to 2 weeks, and are also well transported over long distances without losing their appearance and taste.
Among the disadvantages of the variety, it is noted that the yield indicators are very different between cultivation in greenhouses and in the open field. Since the variety is hybrid, it cannot be propagated with its own seeds. Each bush must be tied to a support.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
The height of the bush is 100 cm, which classifies the variety as medium-sized. The trunk is strong and thick. The root system develops actively, but does not penetrate deep into the ground. Leaves are medium in size, standard, oblong-ovoid. The surface is deep green, slightly wrinkled, glossy.
The type of inflorescence is mixed. Peduncles are small, white with a bright yellow center. On one bush, 8-10 fruits are formed.
Fruits ripen large, cuboid in shape, with dimensions of 10x12 cm. Fruit weight varies in the range of 150-200 g. In technical ripeness, vegetables are green, when fully ripe they turn orange (the color can be either saturated or slightly faded).
The surface is glossy, smooth. 3-4 chambers are formed inside, with a small amount of small seeds. The pulp is juicy enough. Wall thickness - 7-8 mm.
Purpose and taste
The culture is universal, therefore it is suitable for fresh consumption, preparation of snacks and lecho, canning and freezing. And also due to the fact that the walls are very thick, peppers can be stuffed. The fruit tastes excellent, very sweet, and the aroma is unobtrusive.
Ripening terms
Pepper Magno belongs to the early varieties. Its vegetative period is 95-105 days. Full ripening occurs in July.
Yield
With proper agrotechnical care, the yield of the variety is high. But it very much depends on where exactly the culture was painted. If it is open ground, then the indicators are 4.5-5 kg per 1m2, and if it is a greenhouse, then the yield can reach 12-14 kg per 1m2.
Growing regions
The best yield indicators are observed in the following regions:
- Central;
- Northern;
- Far Eastern;
- Ural;
- Nizhnevolzhsky;
- Middle Volga;
- Volgo-Vyatsky;
- TsCHO;
- Northwestern.
Landing scheme
Summer residents are advised to plant seedlings according to the 40x60 cm scheme. This will ensure an even distribution of useful minerals, moisture, and also facilitate harvesting.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and care
Before sowing, Magno pepper seeds should not be soaked in potassium permanganate or potassium permanganate solution, since the manufacturers took care of this and treated all the material with a special substance (tyram), which prevents the development of various fungal diseases, and also repels some pests.
For growing seedlings, boxes are harvested, land is purchased and seeds are sown.
Do not expect the seeds to produce good results on their own. It is necessary, in addition to watering, to apply fertilizers, as well as to ensure that the seedlings have enough light.
Landing in open ground is carried out in May. And follow-up care should include:
- watering;
- top dressing;
- loosening the soil;
- garter and crown formation.
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
