Description of the variety
The Lesya variety is well known in its homeland. Bred in Ukraine, author - Terentyev D. Not included in the Russian State Register. It is a compact, large-fruited sweet pepper, surprisingly hardy, with an amazing taste. The plant is a variety, not a hybrid, so once purchased seeds will yield plants from which you can harvest your own planting material.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
Bushes of medium height, up to 60 cm, according to some sources, up to 40 cm, spreading. Stems are flexible, thin.
The fruits of the original shape are like onions, the tip is pointed, elongated. In longitudinal section, the fetus resembles a heart. The skin is bright red, with thickening to black-red, with a varnish sheen. Playing color, deep. At the stage of technical ripeness, Les peppers are dark green. The size of the fruit is quite large, up to 10 cm in length and the same in diameter. The fruits are weighty, weighing up to 160 grams - this is more than that of larger-fruited varieties. The walls of the pepper are very juicy and thick - 8-10 mm, in some places up to 1.5 cm, the skin is thin and dense. The fruit is excellent - up to 7 weeks in the refrigerator.
Purpose and taste
The taste is excellent, interesting, the peppers are very sweet, with a pungent, spicy and delicate aroma. The peculiar gourmand sweet taste immediately sets the variety apart from others. The variety is versatile in application. Suitable for any first and second courses, salads, snacks. It is difficult to use for stuffing - the walls are very thick, but it can be interesting in festive dishes. Looks great in any kind of preservation, can be frozen for the winter.
Ripening terms
The variety is early, the harvest is removed 105-110 days after germination.
Yield
The yield is high, up to 30-35 peppers are harvested from 1 bush. The yield can be up to 5-6 kg per 1 sq. m, which is a very high indicator for sweet peppers. The yield is friendly. The fruits are not prone to cracking.
Landing scheme
Pepper Les is quite compact, so it is planted according to the 40x40 cm scheme.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and care
Pepper Les is unpretentious, he has standard cultural requirements for care.
Seeds for seedlings are sown in late February - early March. To make the seeds germinate faster, they are kept in hot water (+50 degrees) for 5 hours, then wrapped in a damp cloth and kept at room temperature for 2-3 days. After that, they are immediately sown. Seeds treated in this way can sprout as early as 3 days.
Seedlings are transplanted into open ground in May - early June, depending on the region. The soil temperature during the daytime should be + 15 ° С.
To protect against pests, calendula, dill or cilantro are planted around the beds with peppers.
Les is hardy, can bear fruit even in very dry summers, when other varieties simply die. However, peppers love careful, sensitive watering, respond to a sufficient supply of moisture with more and more fruits. The moisture intake must be uniform. Soil moisture 80%, without periods of standing water or dry soil, prevents disease. In the first half of summer, peppers love warm sprinkling, then they are watered at the root. In dry summers, watered 3 times a week, in very dry summers, daily watering may be required. To even out the sensations of peppers in an unstable summer, after watering, the soil under the plants is loosened and mulched. This keeps the moisture at a more or less constant level.
To increase yields and attract bees, flowering peppers are sprayed with a solution of boric acid and sugar (2 g and 100 g per 1 liter of water).
Spraying with boric acid can be carried out three times: when the buds are just poured, during the period of mass flowering, during the period of ovary formation. Use a solution of 1 g per 1 liter of water, between treatments - 7 days. Boron fertilization is especially useful on poor soils, sandy, podzolic, as well as on those where liming has been carried out - it always reduces the nutritional value of the soil.
Les' pepper needs a garter, he has thin, flexible stems that sag under the weight of the fruit. They form a plant at their discretion, usually 2 stems are left, all stepchildren and processes below the fork are removed.
They are fed once every 14 days. Pepper's favorite top dressing is diluted bird droppings. But you can use complex mineral fertilizers with an emphasis on potassium, calcium, phosphorus, boron, magnesium, zinc. Nitrogen fertilizers are fed only once, a week after planting seedlings in the ground.
As a prophylaxis of diseases and protection against aphids, ash infusion is used - it is at the same time a potassium supplement. To increase the immunity of plants, use "Epin" and "Zircon". A good prevention of fungal diseases is the use of "Fitosporin". It is a concentrate of bacteria that are always present in the soil. The drug is absolutely safe for people, not phytotoxic, it is used 1 time every 2 weeks, it can be used even 1 day before harvesting.
In order not to have to use strong fungicides or insecticides, the site is looked after. All plant residues are burned in the fall, the plants are carefully examined and treated with home remedies in time. Slug barriers can be organized around the beds - tobacco dust or wood ash is poured into the grooves.
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
Soil requirements
Peppers love light, loose, saturated soils. The birthplace of culture is the tropics of Central America with their thick, but quickly drying out soils. Too acidic soils are limy. The optimum pH for pepper is 6.0-7.0. Like all nightshades, pepper is able to tolerate alkaline (saline soils, with Ph> 7.0), so it can be planted in areas where "nothing grows", and it is necessary to carry out acidification and cultivation of the soil.
Pepper Les is hardy, but it is better to prepare the soil in advance: for a year, under the previous culture, per 1 sq. m make a bucket of humus, in the fall they dig deeply into 3 tbsp. l. phosphorus and potash fertilizers. In the spring, ammonium nitrate is introduced - 1.5 tbsp. l. for 1 sq. m superficially.
Best predecessors: green manure, pumpkin, cucumber, cabbage, zucchini, carrots and onions. It is unacceptable to plant peppers after any other nightshade - potatoes, eggplant, tomatoes.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
Review overview
The Lesya variety is of interest, but there are few full-fledged reviews. The origin of the variety is unclear, gardeners willingly try to grow it, but most of the seeds that fall into their hands are amateur, from collectors. Therefore, Lesya, according to reviews, is different plants. Of the stable traits: compactness, taste, shape of the fruit, thick juicy walls, yield and endurance - the variety easily survives droughts and sets huge fruits for such a small plant. Les will be of interest to everyone who is looking for the most original varieties of sweet peppers. There are not so many peppers with flaming "hearts".
