Many gardeners are trying to pick up earlier varieties of pepper for planting on the site, especially if they have to grow in a short summer. One of the most popular varieties is the vegetable culture Prince of Silver, of domestic selection.
Breeding history
Sweet pepper Prince of silver is a vegetable crop obtained thanks to the works of domestic scientists of the Poisk agrofirm in 2006. The authors of the variety are breeders Kostenko A.N., Ognev V.V. and Maksimov S.V.
In 2007, pepper joined the ranks of the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation. The vegetable is zoned in all regions of the country. The culture is cultivated both in the open field, and under a film shelter, and in greenhouse conditions.
Description of the variety
The Silver Prince is a medium-sized standard plant, which grows up to 50-70 cm in height in a favorable environment. The bush is characterized by semi-spreading branches, abundant thickening of dark green leaves, a powerful central stem and a mixed type of flowering. Fruits on the bushes are located drooping - "noses" down. As a rule, about 6-8 medium-sized fruits ripen on a healthy pepper bush.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
The culture belongs to the category of medium-fruited. Vegetables ripen neat and leveled. The average weight of a vegetable ranges from 95 to 110 grams, 8-10 cm long. The shape of the peppercorns is conical. At the stage of technical ripeness, the vegetable is covered with a yellow-green color, and the ripened pepper acquires a uniform bright red color. The peel of the vegetable is of moderate density (6.2 mm thick), smooth, with a pronounced gloss and a noticeable ribbing of the surface. The structure of the vegetable consists of 2-3 chambers with a small number of seeds.
The harvested crop can be transported without losing the marketable quality of vegetables, as well as injured for some time in the refrigerator (up to 7 days).
Purpose and taste
The taste of the pepper is excellent. The pale scarlet flesh is characterized by fleshiness, tenderness, moderate density and juiciness, without wateriness. The vegetable has a harmonious taste - a pleasant sweetness, complemented by a bright spicy aroma that remains after processing.
Ripe peppers have a wide range of uses in cooking - they are eaten fresh, added to salads, in various hot dishes, baked, pickled, stuffed and frozen. In addition, due to its meatiness and juiciness, the vegetable is suitable for processing into sauces, ketchups.
Ripening terms
The Silver Prince belongs to the group of early maturing species. The growing season lasts less than 4 months - 110-115 days. The fruits ripen gradually, so the fruiting period of the variety is quite long. It is recommended to remove ripe vegetables 2 times a week. The harvest period starts in July and lasts until the end of August.
Yield
Provided the basic rules of care are followed, you can count on a high yield. On average, from 1 m2 of plantings, you can get up to 1.8 kg of juicy peppers. In greenhouse conditions, the indicator is slightly higher - up to 4 kg / m2.
Landing scheme
Planting a vegetable crop should be correct - observing the density and distance between the bushes. It is recommended to have up to 4 bushes per 1 m2. Landing is carried out according to the scheme 60x40 cm.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance.When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and care
Despite the fact that the variety can be grown by both the seed and seedling method, it is the second method that is most often used. Pepper bushes are planted in a greenhouse or greenhouse in mid-May. To plant on a garden bed, you should wait for the temperature to return to normal and the soil warms up sufficiently. As a rule, you need to plant peppers on the ridge at the end of May - the first week of June. For planting, mature bushes 60-65 days old are selected, with 3-5 true leaves and a developed rhizome.
Vegetable care consists of the following activities:
- regular irrigation with standing water under the root (a drip system is recommended);
- fertilization 2-3 times per season;
- weeding and plowing of the soil, which improves air / moisture permeability;
- garter bushes to supports (if necessary);
- the formation of bushes in 2 stems, due to which you can slightly increase the yield;
- prevention of fungi and insect infestations.
The greenhouses are regularly ventilated.
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
Soil requirements
The plant should be planted in light, nutritious, breathable and moist soils with low acidity. Pepper reacts well to the addition of liquid manure or compost to the soil. Planting peppers in swampy soils is not recommended.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Required climatic conditions
The Silver Prince is a thermophilic culture with cold resistance. In addition, the plant can tolerate short shade and extreme heat.For cultivation, a flat area is chosen, where there is a lot of light and sun, and there is also a fence that protects from drafts.
Disease and pest resistance
Due to its strong immunity, the culture is resistant to fungal diseases and bacterial pathogens. Pepper is resistant to tobacco mosaic virus.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
