Sweet pepper Prince Igor holds a special place among vegetable crops. It belongs to such varieties that do not care about all adversity, it is grown everywhere, the exception is, perhaps, only the Far North. Therefore, this hybrid has the best yield, as well as reviews about it.
Breeding history
A hybrid variety with the proud name Prince Igor is a rather successful brainchild of domestic breeders. It was born in the early 2000s thanks to the Sedek agricultural firm and its leading specialists S. Dubinin, M. Kirillov, I. Dubinina.
The hybrid has been part of the Rosreestr of Breeding Achievements since 2004. Once the crop was approved for use, it almost immediately became popular due to its tremendous resilience and ability to produce rich harvests in all conditions. It is no coincidence that at the agricultural exhibition in 2016 the hybrid variety Prince Igor was named the winner.
Description of the variety
The hybrid is versatile, it brings excellent yields regardless of the conditions in which it is cultivated - in a greenhouse, open ground, under a film. And also it is equally successfully grown both on a personal plot in a private household plots, and on a large farm field. There are a lot of advantages:
- record yield, independent of external factors;
- excellent taste of peppers, large-fruited;
- high resistance to ailments, harmful insects, weather conditions;
- marketability of fruits, suitable for commercial cultivation.
There are only two disadvantages:
- the need to tie bushes to supports due to the abundant harvest;
- inability to use seeds - due to the fact that this is a hybrid, you need to buy seeds.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
Pepper bushes Prince Igor, justifying the name, are powerful, spreading, vigorous. On average, the height of a bush in the open field is 60-70 centimeters, sometimes it reaches a meter mark. In greenhouse conditions, plants stretch 80-150 centimeters. The foliage on the plant is large, slightly wrinkled, painted in a rich green tone.
The fruits grow horizontally on the bush, resemble a cylinder or an elongated cube in shape, the ribbing is weak. The peel on the peppers is bright, glossy, colored at the stage of technical ripeness in a dark green tone; upon reaching biological maturity, the fruits turn dark red. The number of nests inside the fruit is 3-4. The peppers themselves are quite large, weighing 200-250 grams, thick-walled, wall thickness - 8-10 mm.
Purpose and taste
A universal product, contains many vitamins and minerals, especially vitamins of group C. Pepper is recommended to be consumed fresh, and it is also useful for home cooking, canning, it makes a delicious lecho. The pulp of the fruit is juicy, dense, crunches when eaten fresh.
Ripening terms
Prince Igor belongs to the mid-early group of vegetable crops. Fully ripens in 105-110 days. Fruiting is extended to July-September.
Yield
The average yield of a hybrid variety for open ground is 40-45 t / ha, and as for cultivation in winter greenhouses, from 1 square meter, you can get 18-24 kilograms of fruit.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and care
The start of work on sowing pepper seeds Prince Igor usually dates from the end of February - the beginning of March. If you plan to use the greenhouse, you can sow early - in this case, it is important to take care of additional lighting.
Transplantation into open ground, as a rule, is carried out after May 15, in greenhouse structures - at the very beginning of this month. By the time of transfer, the grown seedlings should get stronger, have a growth of at least 20-25 centimeters.
The site for planting peppers should be prepared in advance, cleaned of weeds, and the soil should be enriched with humus and peat. Sand and some ash are used for drainage. The acidic soil is corrected by adding lime. You can also place fertilizer separately in each hole when planting.
Pepper Prince Igor should not be planted in the garden after tomatoes, potatoes, and other nightshades. Legumes, herbs, herbs, onions, and garlic are good precursors.
After planting, the ground around the seedlings can be covered with mulch. This solves several problems: it warms the roots, at the same time, it prevents them from overheating from the scorching sun, and retains moisture.
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Disease and pest resistance
The hybrid variety Prince Igor is not afraid of coolness, shade, or common diseases.Of course, with poor care, any variety can get sick, especially if the crop is flooded, as the roots will suffer. But with regular and uncomplicated maintenance, the culture is usually not a hassle.
Pests, as a rule, do not touch this pepper. This is largely due to the early maturation of it - the parasites are more active closer to the second half of summer and towards autumn.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
