As practice shows, bell peppers can be grown not only in a greenhouse or in a garden bed, but also at home - on a windowsill, on a balcony, the main thing is to choose the right variety. For such purposes, the mid-season Etude variety, created by Russian breeders, is optimal.
Breeding history
Sweet pepper Etude is a variety developed by the scientists of the Manul seed company. The authorship belongs to the well-known breeders Borisov A.V., Skachko V.A. and Krylov A.N. The variety appeared in the State Register of approved for use in 2004. The vegetable is cultivated in the open field, in greenhouses and hotbeds, as well as indoors. You can grow a crop in any climatic zone of Russia.
Description of the variety
Etude is a medium-sized shrub of the standard type. It grows in height up to 50-100 cm. The maximum growth in the bushes is observed in greenhouses, and the minimum in a flowerpot on the windowsill. The plant is characterized by semi-spreading branches, a powerful central stem, medium foliage with bright green foliage and a mixed type of flowering.
A characteristic feature of the variety is the non-standard arrangement of fruits on the bushes - mixed - some hang drooping, and some horizontally. On a healthy bush, from 27 to 45 identical specimens ripen per season.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
The pepper variety belongs to medium-fruited. The average weight of a pepper is 80-100 grams. The shape of the vegetable is conical. Fruits ripen smooth and neat, so the variety is quite suitable for growing commercially. Unripe specimens are painted in a pale green or yellow-green color, and absolutely ripe peppers are evenly covered with a ruby-red color. Etude pepper is considered to be thick-walled - the wall thickness is 5-6 mm. The surface of the peppercorns is smooth, with a high gloss and slight ribbing. The structure of the vegetable includes 2-3 seed chambers.
Ripe peppers are characterized by good transportability and increased keeping quality without loss of taste and marketability.
Purpose and taste
Pepper has excellent taste. The light red pulp is endowed with a fleshy, dense, tender, crispy and juicy consistency. The fruit has a balanced taste - sweetish. In the pronounced aroma, spicy notes are noticeable. The peculiarity is that even unripe peppers have a pleasant sweetness and bright aroma.
The harvested crop can always be used - peppers are eaten fresh, stuffed, pickled, canned, added to soups, various cold dishes. In addition, the juiciness and meatiness of vegetables allows them to be used in the preparation of various sauces and dressings.
Ripening terms
This variety has an average ripening period. The growing season of the plant lasts more than 4 months - up to 160 days. Vegetables do not ripen at the same time, so the fruiting period is quite long, it can last until cold snaps. The massive harvest is in August-September.
Yield
The yield of the vegetable crop is excellent, the main thing is to provide the plant with basic agricultural technology. In a greenhouse, up to 12 kg of fleshy fruits can be removed from 1 m2 of plantings, and in a garden bed the indicator is slightly lower - from 5 to 8.5 kg / m2
Landing scheme
When planning the planting of a vegetable, you need to know according to what pattern and density the pepper bushes are planted. It is recommended to plant no more than 5-7 bushes per 1 m2. The plant is planted according to the scheme 30x50 cm.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and care
It is recommended to grow a crop through seedlings, since this method is more productive, and also allows you to harvest at an earlier date. For planting, pepper bushes are selected at the age of 55-60 days. Planting in open ground is carried out in the first week of June, and in the greenhouse a little earlier - in mid-May. Good predecessors for this crop are: squash, pumpkin or carrots.
Vegetable care is standard: regular watering under the root with warm or settled water, fertilization 3-4 times per season (mineral complexes are welcome), loosening and weeding of the soil (shallow), formation of a bush in 1-2 stems, garter to supports, prevention of viruses ... When growing in greenhouse structures, one should not forget about airing.
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
Soil requirements
The growing soil should be fluffy, light, moisture-permeable, breathable, slightly acidic and nutritious. Planting in swampy soils is not recommended. Loamy, sandy loam and chernozem soils are considered the best substrate.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Required climatic conditions
The culture has good stress resistance, therefore it is able to withstand sudden temperature drops, cold snaps, short-term shade and heat. For cultivation, a site cleared of weeds is chosen, where a lot of light and sunlight gets in, but there is a reliable barrier against drafts.
Disease and pest resistance
The plant's high immunity provides resistance to the tobacco mosaic virus.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
