Heat-loving sweet peppers are grown today not only in the southern regions, but also in the central and even in the northern regions of Russia. The productive and hardy variety D'Artagnan was bred not so long ago, but has already gained popularity among gardeners.
Breeding history
The originator of the D'Artagnan variety is the Aelita agricultural company, one of the largest Russian producers and wholesalers of seed. The head office of the enterprise is located in Moscow, and the breeding base with nurseries and greenhouses is located in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
In 2013, the variety was included in the State Register and allowed for cultivation in open and protected ground throughout Russia. The authors of D "Artanyan stated: General Director of LLC" Agrofirma Aelita "V. G. Kachainik and experienced breeders N. V. Nastenko, L. S. Savchenko, M. N. Gulkin.
Description of the variety
D Artagnan is a mid-season variety of large-fruited, thick-walled sweet pepper. It is resistant to weather changes and lack of lighting, gives a bountiful harvest in greenhouses and in the open field, has excellent taste, is well stored and is transported without loss of presentation. Elongated like icicles, peppers at the stage of full maturity acquire a rich red color.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
The variety forms a powerful tall (80-150 cm) bush with spreading shoots, dark green slightly wrinkled foliage and drooping elongated fruits with rather large dimensions: 15 to 18 cm long and weighing 150-200 g. Under favorable growing conditions, the weight of peppers can reach 300 g
The fruit is characterized by an elongated prismatic shape with ribbing and three distinct edges. The surface of the peppers is highly glossy, dense. The color changes with ripeness from green to bright red. The walls in the section are thick, on average about 6-9 mm.
Purpose and taste
The harmonious sweet taste, aroma and juiciness of this variety are best revealed when consumed fresh: in summer salads and slices. But a rich harvest can be used universally. These peppers are suitable for a wide variety of culinary options: they can be stewed, baked, pickled, and canned. For stuffing, peppers of this variety are inconvenient due to their elongated shape.
Ripening terms
D "Artagnan belongs to mid-season varieties. The period from the emergence of seedlings to the entry of the plant into the fruiting phase is about 4 months (120-130 days). In the southern regions, peppers reach technical ripeness after 110 days. Bushes bear fruit for a long time, the crop can be harvested from July to September.
Yield
The variety is valued for its high productivity: the bushes are literally hung with peppers of uniform size, one plant forms up to 17 fruits. About 4 kg are collected from a plot of 1 m² in the open field, in a greenhouse and a greenhouse - up to 6.5-8 kg.
Growing regions
According to the State Register, D "Artanyan received zoning in all 12 regions of the Russian Federation: from Kaliningrad to the Far East. In the south of the country, it is planted with seeds directly on the site and grown without shelter. Many vegetable growers in the middle lane also successfully grow it in the open field, although sometimes the peppers do not have time to fully ripen and turn red on the bushes due to the reduction in daylight hours and the onset of autumn cold weather. In areas with unstable climates and short summers, the variety is cultivated in greenhouses.
Landing scheme
D'Artagnan's sprawling lush bushes need enough space. It is not recommended to place more than 4 plants on 1 m². It is possible to grow this variety optimally comfortably when planting according to the scheme of 50x35 cm.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and care
Seeds of variety D "Artagnan show excellent germination. Most often, hardened seedlings pre-grown in containers are planted on the site. In the open field, this procedure is carried out in late May - early June. The place is chosen sunny, although this variety firmly tolerates a lack of light. The soil is enriched with peat and nitrogenous additives. During the growing season, top dressing is applied several more times, alternating organic and mineral.
In order for the plant to direct the main forces on the setting and growth of large and tasty fruits, it is formed: in the first fork of the main shoot, the crown flower is removed and the bush is led into two main strong stems. In a greenhouse, the plant can be tall, more than 1 m, so it is tied to a trellis.
Bushes require regular watering: 2-3 times a week. If the summer is sultry, without rain, then peppers are watered daily.
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
Soil requirements
Like all sweet peppers, this cultivar prefers loose, light and fertile soil with a neutral pH. For sowing seeds and planting seedlings, you need to wait for the earth to warm up well, at least to 18-20 ° C. Pepper grows well on the site if its predecessors were cucumbers, legumes or cabbage.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Disease and pest resistance
Judging by the reviews of amateur vegetable growers, D "Artanyan has good immunity, rarely" picks up "infections and quickly recovers when damaged by pests.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
