For lovers of meaty and tasty pepper varieties, the mid-season Bulgarian variety will become a godsend and a favorite vegetable crop in the garden in the future. This is due to the characteristics that this variety possesses - high yield, simple agricultural technology and resistance to most infections.
Breeding history
The Bulgarian is a creation of domestic scientists from the Federal Research Center of Vegetable Growing, created in 2006. Authorship belongs to Kostenko A.N., Maksimov S.V. and Klimenko N.N. The vegetable is cultivated in all regions of Russia. The variety is productive both on open ground, and under film shelters, and in various types of greenhouses.
Description of the variety
It is a medium-sized plant that usually grows up to 60-70 cm in height. The bushes have abundant thickening with slightly wrinkled bright green leaves, semi-spreading branches, a strong central stem, a female flowering type and a superficial root system. Fruits on the bushes are located "noses" down (drooping). On average, up to 5-6 large and evened peppers ripen at the same time.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
The Bulgarian belongs to the class of large-fruited. Fruit weight varies from 160-170 to 200 grams (length up to 12 cm). The vegetables are all the same size, so the variety is massively grown commercially. The shape of the peppers is conical. Unripe specimens have a pale green color, and fully ripe peppers are evenly covered with a rich red color. Inside the vegetable there are 2-3 chambers with a small amount of small seeds. The variety belongs to thick-walled (thickness 5-7 mm). The surface of the vegetable is smooth, with a pronounced shine and barely noticeable ribbing.
Ripe peppers are transportable, and also have increased safety and keeping quality. On average, vegetables can be stored without loss of marketability and taste for more than 5-6 weeks. Specimens collected at the stage of technical maturity can be stored even longer if placed in a cold and dark place.
Purpose and taste
Sweet pepper Bulgarian is characterized by excellent taste. The light red flesh is very firm, fleshy, crunchy and very juicy. The taste is dominated by sweetness and subtle sugariness, combined with a pronounced peppery aroma.
The harvested crop will be widely used in cooking - it is eaten fresh, pickled, frozen, canned in slices, added to hot dishes and cold snacks, and also processed into sauces, ketchups, and other dressings.
Ripening terms
The Bulgarian is a bright representative of mid-season varieties. The growing season lasts more than 4 months - 130 days. Germination, formation of ovaries and ripening of the variety are friendly. You can evaluate the taste of pepper already in the first half of July. Massive payback occurs on the 5-6th week - from July 20 to August 30.
Yield
The yield indicators of the variety are good. In a greenhouse, an average of 3.4 kilograms of fleshy peppers are removed from 1 m2, and on the garden bed a little less - up to 3 kilograms. The maximum indicator was recorded in the open field at around 6.2-7 kg / m2.
Landing scheme
When planting pepper bushes in a garden bed or in a greenhouse, the planting density should be observed, as well as the correct distance between the plants so that they do not shade each other, and thickening does not form. When planting in open ground, there are 4-5 bushes per 1 m2, and in a greenhouse - 3-4 bushes. Landing is carried out according to the standard scheme 60x40 cm.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and caring
Vegetables are cultivated mainly through seedlings. For planting, strengthened bushes with a height of 20-25 cm and an age of 65-70 days are selected, which have a formed root system, and there are 3-5 true leaves. Seedlings are planted in a greenhouse in mid-May - from 10 to 20. Planting on the bed is carried out after the temperature regime has stabilized and the soil has warmed up sufficiently. This is often the second half of May - early June.
Agrotechnical measures include: regular watering with warm water (every 3-4 days), weekly top dressing, loosening and weeding of the soil, forming a bush in 2 stems, obligatory garter to a support or trellis, removal of excess shoots before the first branch, prevention of diseases and insect infestations ...
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
Soil requirements
This variety grows productively on light, loose, breathable, fertile and moist soils with a neutral acidity level.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Required climatic conditions
The Bulgarian is quite stress-resistant, therefore it is able to withstand temperature fluctuations, prolonged heat and short-term shade. For planting a plant, a place with a sufficient amount of light and heat, as well as protection from drafts, is chosen.
Disease and pest resistance
The plant has genetic resistance to many diseases. High resistance of the culture to tobacco mosaic virus and fusarium wilt.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
