It is no secret that now there is a huge number of varieties of vegetables for cultivation for various purposes and conditions. Today we will talk about Atlant pepper, its benefits and vulnerabilities.
Breeding history
The variety of this pepper appeared in 2006, and in 2007 it was included in the State Register for the Russian Federation. We owe the appearance of Atlant to domestic breeders S.V. Maksimov, N.N.Klimenko and A.N.Kostenko.
Description of the variety
The variety is suitable for growing both in the open field and under film shelters, in a greenhouse or greenhouse. Atlanta is planted in a sunny area. Most often it can be found in the following regions:
north;
Northwest;
Centrally;
Volgo-Vyatsky;
TsCHO;
North Caucasian;
Middle Volga;
Nizhnevolzhsky;
Uralsk;
West Siberian;
East Siberian;
Far East.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
The bush is a vigorous one - its height reaches 70-75 cm and more on average. It, although spreading outwardly, has relatively few leaves.
The fruits are also pleasing - they are very large, with a rich red hue. The length of one pepper can reach 18-20 cm, and the diameter is 13-14 cm.The mass of one such pepper reaches 180-190 g.
Purpose and taste
Despite the impressive size of Atlanta, it has not lost its taste. The pulp of the fruit is juicy, the taste is excellent, with hints of sweetness. The variety has a universal purpose.
Ripening terms
In terms of ripening, the variety belongs to the mid-season. After sprouting, the first wave of the crop is formed after 130 days. Ripening occurs from July to August.
Yield
Average yield of pepper: 3.1-3.3 kg / m2.
Landing scheme
When planting the variety, they adhere to the 50x40 cm scheme.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and care
Usually Atlanta is grown by seedlings. Among suitable predecessors, gardeners distinguish pumpkin, beets, cabbage, carrots, leafy greens, as well as all legumes, with the exception of beans. Among the neighbors, nightshades and other varieties of bitter peppers (Atlant - sweet) are undesirable.
Pepper seeds are preliminarily selected and prepared. It looks like this.
The seeds are left in clean, lukewarm water for a couple of hours.
Then they are transferred to a pinkish solution of potassium permanganate for 20 minutes.
After that, the material is washed and left for half a day in a growth stimulator prepared in accordance with the instructions ("Heteroauxin", "Epin-extra" are suitable).
The seeds are washed and dried a little.
Planting seeds in open ground (as well as transferring seedlings to open ground or under a film / greenhouse) is carried out in May. Seedlings are planted in March.
For seedlings, special boxes are usually prepared with drainage holes and a layer of expanded clay at the bottom. During soil preparation, it can be disinfected with a weak hot solution of potassium permanganate.
The sufficient depth of the holes is 1 cm, the distance between the seeds is 2-3 cm, and the distance between the rows is twice as much.The seeds are sprinkled with loose earth, moistened with a spray bottle with settled water with a temperature of + 25 ... 30 degrees.
The entire container is covered with a film product, in which several holes are made in advance. Alternatively, glass is used instead of film. Closed boxes are left in a well-lit place (the temperature during the day should be at least +24, at night +21), they are aired 2-3 times a week. The seedlings are periodically moistened.
The first shoots appear in about a week. From this moment, the film is removed and the temperature is lowered (up to +20). The box rotates 180 degrees so that the plants change their growth trajectory and do not stretch in only one direction. The required daylight hours for pepper are at least 12 hours (sometimes additional lighting is used).
Atlant calmly tolerates the dive. The seedlings are transferred to the cups as two full-fledged leaves are formed on the sprouts. The root collar does not need to be buried. The first feeding is carried out after 2 weeks (preparations "Solution" and "Agricola"), again - after the same amount of time.
For 2-3 weeks, the seedlings are transferred "for a walk" for 20-30 minutes. The room temperature drops to +16. A month after the first shoots, the seedlings can be transplanted. In this case, the height of the stem should be about 30 cm. It is important that the weather is stable outside with a temperature of at least +15 degrees.
The selected area is dug up and leveled either in the fall or in the spring. On 1 m2, manure is introduced in the amount of 1 bucket, as well as wood ash (1 glass). If you do not have manure, you can use potassium sulfate and superphosphate (per 1 m2, one tablespoon).
Before transplanting, mineral fertilizers containing potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen are introduced into the prepared holes, mixing them (1 tbsp. L.) With the ground. Seedlings must be well watered and sprinkled. It is also important from time to time (about once a week) to loosen the ground and remove weeds. Atlant does not need hilling.
The variety quickly devastates the ground, so it needs periodic feeding. Atlant responds well to liquid feeding. Prepare for the mixture: mullein (1 bucket), wood ash (2-3 handfuls) and water (10 buckets). The resulting solution is diluted in a ratio of 1: 3. It is enough for weekly use, and it partially replaces watering.
Some gardeners recommend alternating different types of feed. To do this, resort to bird droppings (for the first two weeks after transplantation), humus (for the flowering period), nitrophoska solution (for actively growing fruits), urea infusion.
Atlant is not coping well with drought. The variety is especially in need of watering in the initial stages of growth. The bushes are watered 3-4 times a week, either in the morning or in the evening. Approaches increase or decrease according to weather conditions. First, 0.5-1 l is poured onto one bush, then 2-3 l. Good watering ensures a tasty and bountiful harvest.
Water is poured at the root. Its optimum temperature is + 25 ... 30 degrees. During the period when the fruit color changes (from green to red), the frequency of watering is reduced.
Atlanta must be tied up so that it does not "run away" and break. This is not difficult to do. At the ends of the beds, two one and a half meter wooden pegs are driven into the ground, and a rope is pulled between them. Shorter twines are tied to it, and the plant is fixed with them. It is also possible to tie each plant to a separate peg.
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
Soil requirements
Atlanta is not planted on sandy or clayey soils. And also lands with high acidity. In the case of the necessary liming, a sufficient depth of 20 cm. The volume of lime applied depends on the degree of acidity.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Disease and pest resistance
The variety has good immunity to diseases and pests. It tolerates the tobacco mosaic virus well, however, 10 days after transplantation to the site, the bushes are prophylactically treated. The famous preparation "Aktara" is used against insect pests - 1.4 g / 1 l. For diseases, make a solution of "Fitosporin-M" - 3 tsp. / 1 bucket.
Whether to use certain biological or chemical preparations is the choice of the gardener himself, but most recommend using proven folk remedies due to their environmental friendliness and safety.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
