Early varieties of sweet pepper are in demand among gardeners in regions with difficult weather conditions and short summers. This is due to the fact that the vegetable has time to ripen before the cold snap. One of the popular early crops is the Admiral sweet pepper, developed by Russian scientists.
Breeding history
Admiral is a hybrid, which was developed by a group of domestic breeders from the Research Institute for Breeding Vegetable Crops "Gavrishsem". The vegetable was registered in 2011. At the same time, sweet peppers were included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation. You can grow a crop on a garden ridge, under a film cover, and in a greenhouse. The hybrid is zoned into all climatic zones of the country - from the Central to the Far Eastern and Ural regions.
Description of the variety
An early ripe hybrid is a medium-sized, semi-stemmed plant that grows up to 110-130 cm in height. The semi-sprawling, compact bush has abundant thickening with wrinkled green leaves, a powerful central stem, drooping fruit arrangement, a female flowering type and a developed root system. Outwardly, pepper bushes resemble miniature trees that do not take up much space on the ridges. On a healthy bush, 8-12 sweet peppers are tied and ripened.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits
The hybrid stands out for its attractive presentation. The variety is medium-fruited. The mass of fruits ripening on the bushes reaches 100-120 grams. The shape of the peppercorns is neat - conical. At the stage of technical maturity, the vegetable is endowed with a greenish-white color, and ripe peppers have a pale red, sometimes red-scarlet cover. The coloration of the peppers is uneven. The peel of vegetables is thick and strong (thickness 6-7 mm), rather smooth, shiny, without pronounced ribbing. The seed chambers in the fetus are 3-4.
The harvested crop tolerates transportation without significant losses, and also has a long shelf life if vegetables are stored in a cool place.
Purpose and taste
The admiral has excellent taste. The pepper flesh is fleshy. Delicate and juicy texture without wateriness. The taste is dominated by pronounced sweetness, complemented by a bright, summer aroma that persists even after heat treatment. There is no pungency and bitterness in the pepper pulp.
Sweet pepper is eaten fresh, added to cold and hot dishes, pickled, canned, frozen, and it is also ideal for processing into various sauces, dressings, for example, lecho.
Ripening terms
The admiral represents the category of early maturing hybrids. The growing season lasts only 100-110 days. Vegetables are ripened gradually. You can taste the first fruits in July, the peak of mass ripening and harvesting stretches to August-September.
Yield
The vegetable yields high yields. On average, 4.3 kg of meat peppers can be harvested from 1 m2 of plantings in a garden bed. In greenhouses, the yield is richer - 9-10 kg / m2. It is characteristic that even in a rainy summer, the crop gives a good harvest.
Landing scheme
When planting seedlings, it is recommended to observe the density and distance between the bushes, as this will provide the peppers with air, moisture, heat and light. There are up to 4 pepper bushes per 1 m2. The vegetable is planted according to the 40x60 cm scheme.
To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.
Growing and care
The cultivation of this vegetable crop is carried out through seedlings. Bushes can be planted on the ridge after May 25, when the soil and air are warm enough, and the threat of return spring frosts is left behind. Peppers are planted in the greenhouse in mid-May.
The hybrid agrotechnology includes standard measures: regular irrigation with warm or settled water, fertilization, alternating mineral with organic (3-4 times during the growing season), loosening and weeding, providing air / moisture permeability, bush formation, prevention of viruses and insect attacks.
In addition, in greenhouses, one should not forget about regular ventilation. Thanks to the powerful stem, the bush does not need a garter.
To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.
Soil requirements
The plant has no special requirements for the quality of the soil, but it is comfortable for it to grow and bear fruit in loose, light, breathable, moist and fertile soils with a neutral acidity index. It is worth remembering that a productive culture will not become if it is planted in swampy and heavy soil.
For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.
Required climatic conditions
Pepper Admiral is a culture that tolerates a short drought, loves heat, is resistant to minor temperature fluctuations. That is why it is recommended to plant a plant in an area where it is constantly sunny, warm, light, there is protection from gusty winds and drafts.
Disease and pest resistance
The hybrid is endowed with strong immunity, however, if agricultural technology is not followed or in case of weather disasters, the culture may be exposed to some diseases - fusarium, late blight, sclerotinia, black leg. Juicy greens and fragrant fruits attract pests - aphids, bear and spider mites.
Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
