Mamluk is an early ripening hybrid that is the fruit of crossing several cucumber varieties. In the novelty, breeders managed to combine exemplary parental qualities: great fertility and strong immunity. These features immediately attracted gardeners, who assessed the prospects of the variety for sale.
Breeding history
The authors of the hybrid novelty were a whole team of breeders represented by S. F. Gavrish, A. E. Portyankin, A. V. Shamshina, T. Ya. Suvorova, V. N. Shevkunov, N. N. Khomchenko and I. S. Pluzhnik. The variety was approved for use in 2012.
Description of the variety
Mamluk is a hybrid, therefore it must be marked in the alphanumeric version F1. The flowering of this type of culture occurs according to the female type. For the formation of zelents, she does not need pollination. The fruits have high marketability and transportability.
The root system of the plant is especially powerful and developed. It allows the leaves and stem to grow vigorously and ensures proper fruiting. Plants of this type are indeterminate, that is, they are prone to unlimited growth, therefore they need to be formed.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents
The branching of the cucumber culture is weak. Leaves on shoots of medium size, green, slightly wrinkled plates. The number of female flowers in a node is 3-4 pcs. Lateral shoots are strong and do not grow no longer than 1 meter.
Cylindrical fruits are short, up to 16 cm long. The mass of a cucumber is usually no more than 130 g. Color is green, with characteristic short stripes and a slight spotting (1/2 of the length). The surface of the cucumbers is medium lumpy, with whitish thorns.
Purpose and taste of fruits
The appointment for Mamluk cucumbers is salad. They taste juicy and completely devoid of the bitterness inherent in most varieties of this culture.
Maturation
The Mamluk hybrid is an early, early ripening plant. The first harvest can be treated as early as 35-40 days from the emergence of shoots.
Yield
This hybrid has a very high yield. On average, this is 12.9-13.7 kg / sq. m. To accelerate the formation of new ovaries, timely harvesting is important. It is advisable to process the harvested fruits immediately, since after a few days they will dry out significantly.
Growing and care
Technically, the process of growing hybrid varieties Mamluk F1 is identical to the rest of the species. Seeds are planted when the soil warms up to +12 degrees. The sowing material is buried by about 4 cm. It is optimal to plant the plants according to the following scheme: 50 cm - the interval between the bushes and the same amount is left in the aisles. This agricultural technique has garnered extremely positive reviews.
It is necessary to cultivate a hybrid in winter or spring in a greenhouse, taking into account some features. Seedlings are sown from December to January in order to plant them in a greenhouse in the last winter month. In order for the seeds to germinate, it is important to observe the temperature regime within +27 degrees. As soon as the sprouts hatch, you can lower the temperature by 3 degrees.
For 2-3 days after germination of the sprouts, you will need to use additional lighting all day. At the same time, air humidity is required not lower than 70-75%. When the soil temperature drops below +12 degrees, the ovaries can die off everywhere. Watering with cold water will lead to such a situation.
For the described species, one-barrel formation is used. The two pairs of lower leaves are removed together with the whole ovaries. On each of the next 15 nodes, one leaf and one ovary are left. In the area where the plant is larger than the trellis, only 2-3 leaves and the same number of ovaries are left in the knot.
At the beginning of the fruiting period, during the day, the temperature should be kept at around +24 degrees and not fall below +18 degrees at night. In greenhouse conditions, a hybrid can show excellent results due to its special qualities. In an open place, you can also grow a good harvest, but subject to the introduction of the required agricultural technology.
During the growing season, a number of caring manipulations are carried out.
- Watering
Cucumbers are a very demanding crop for watering. The described hybrid is no exception. To obtain the desired harvest of crispy fruits, the soil in the garden must be kept moist. Watering cucumbers should be quite intense and always regular. For 1 square meter of the site, you need to spend 2-3 liters of water. To prevent rot, watering is done not under the stem itself, but 5-10 cm from it.
- Top dressing
During the growing season, organic solutions created on manure or chicken droppings are introduced. The liquid is applied at some distance from the stem, it cannot get on the leaves. If the bushes are overfed with nitrogen, the varietal characteristics will be spoiled. Lush greens will grow instead of crunchy fruits.
- Pinching
The shoots are shortened in order to direct the nutrients towards fruit setting rather than the formation of unwanted shoots. This applies to lateral shoots, except for those that formed at 18, 19, 20 nodes.
The rest of the processes are pinched on 2-3 leaves. The center conductor must be shortened over 25 knots. The manipulation will be effective only when the processes are not more than 5 cm long. This method of pinching prevents shedding of the ovaries and leads to increased fertility.
- Loosening and weeding
Cucumbers grow well on loose soil, so the garden is loosened after irrigation or rain. Since the roots of the plant are located at the surface, it is advisable to loosen the soil only in the aisles. Carelessness during the manipulation is fraught with numerous damage to the rhizome and the death of the bush in the future. Weeds also harm cucumbers, therefore, on beds with garden plants, their appearance is monitored, removing them as they are found.
In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.
Required climatic conditions
Mamluk is a cold-resistant culture. Due to their resistance to adverse weather conditions, cucumbers can grow in winter and spring. The plant copes well with the drop in temperature without losing yield.
Disease and pest resistance
The variety with strong roots is tolerant to the formation of root and other rot, resistant to cladosporium disease (brown olive spot) and powdery mildew. Also, he is almost not susceptible to peronosporosis.
Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
Review overview
Mamluk shows the best results indoors. On an unprotected site, it can also be grown, but the harvest is more modest, and greens often grow in a curved shape. In general, the culture takes root on any substrate, and usually there are no problems with picking seedlings.
The fruits have excellent commercial qualities, they do not turn yellow and do not outgrow. Even long-term transportation does not harm them, cucumbers do not lose marketability. Subject to the rules of storage, their pulp does not lose its taste.
The way of using cucumbers is universal. When cut, they are not pickled, since the pulp softens. Most often, ripe sweet fruits are added to salads. The surplus can be salted or otherwise processed.
