Many summer residents and gardeners, choosing a variety of cucumbers for planting, try to take varieties of domestic breeding, characterized by simple agricultural technology and high yields. These characteristics are possessed by the hybrid Kuzya species, adapted to different climatic zones.
Breeding history
The early cucumber Kuzya was bred by breeders (N.V. Nastenko, A.V. Kandoba and V.G. Kachainik) of the Aelita agricultural company in 2006. The hybrid is included in the State Register in 2007. It is possible to grow a culture in almost any region of the country, since the cucumber is able to adapt to different conditions. Planting can be carried out both in a garden bed and under a film cover.
Description of the variety
Kuzya is a vigorous plant of an indeterminate type, which is characterized by weak branching and moderate foliage. The foliage is bright green, a powerful central stem with pronounced pubescence, the root system is developed. A feature of the plant is its ability to grow rapidly due to lateral processes, so it grows voluminous, requiring a lot of space.
During the flowering period, huge bright yellow flowers appear. The inflorescences of the plant are female. In each bundle 4–6 zelents are formed. By the type of pollination, the variety is parthenocarpic (self-pollinated).
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents
This species is endowed with an excellent presentation: the fruits grow aligned, neat. On average, cucumbers weighing 70–90 g and up to 7 cm long ripen on a healthy plant. It is noteworthy that this species allows picking cucumbers 1–3 cm long (pickles) and 3–5 cm (mini-gherkins).
The shape of the vegetable is correct - oval-cylindrical. Ripe cucumber is evenly covered with a bright green color, diluted with short light stripes and small blurry specks. The rind of zelents is of medium density, with fine tuberosity, weak ribbing and noticeable white thorns. Cucumbers tolerate transportation well, and also have a long shelf life if vegetables are stored in a cool place.
Purpose and taste of fruits
Kuzya has excellent taste. Cucumber pulp is tender, fleshy, of moderate density, juicy, without voids, bitterness and wateriness. Zelentsy has a pleasant taste: summer sweetness is complemented by a delicate, slightly refreshing aroma. In addition, for Kuzya cucumbers, the crunch of the pulp is characteristic, as well as the almost complete absence of seeds (very small). The purpose of the vegetable is universal: greens are consumed fresh, various salads and snacks are prepared from them, they are pickled, canned whole, and they are also ideal for pickling.
Maturation
Early variety. From germination to fruit ripening, 38–40 days pass. Germination and ripening of cucumbers are friendly. Long-term fruiting is possible only with timely feeding. Harvesting takes place at the end of June - beginning of July.
Yield
The yield indicators of the variety are excellent. On average, up to 7 kg of crispy cucumbers can be harvested from 1 m 2. In greenhouse conditions, the yield is much higher: 15–15.6 kg per 1 m 2.
Landing scheme
It is important to provide not only proper care, but also to follow the planting technique. It is recommended to plant 3-4 plants per 1 m 2. The correct scheme for planting is 50X30 cm.
Growing and care
Planting in a greenhouse can be carried out at the end of May, and on a garden bed in early June. For planting in seedlings, mature sprouts with a height of 20-25 cm and with 3-5 true leaves are best suited.
The agricultural technology of vegetable crops is based on standard procedures: irrigation with warm water under the root, fertilization 2-3 times during the growing season, regular loosening of the soil, the formation of bushes and their garter, prevention of diseases and insect attacks. In addition, when grown in a greenhouse, frequent ventilation is recommended.
Soil requirements
The variety is not particularly picky about the quality of the soil, but it must be fertile, breathable, moist, loose and with a neutral acidity. It is comfortable to grow cucumbers in sandy loam and loamy soils.
In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.
Required climatic conditions
Kuzya is a thermophilic plant, so it should be grown in the southern part of the site, where there is a lot of sun, light, good air circulation, and there are no drafts and stagnant moisture. It should also be borne in mind that the culture does not tolerate sudden temperature fluctuations and long shading.
Disease and pest resistance
This species has good immunity, therefore it is resistant to many standard diseases: cucumber mosaic virus, root rot and powdery mildew.
Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
