Growing delicious cucumbers at home has become possible thanks to breeders who create varieties that grow productively even on balconies. A striking representative of this category of cucumbers is the vegetable culture Krasavchik Hikmet, of domestic selection.
Breeding history
Handsome Hikmet is a new cucumber hybrid created by a group of Russian scientists in 2020. The authorship belongs to T. V. Steinert, A. V. Aliluev, A. M. Romanov and O. I. Shilova.
The vegetable crop was entered into the State Register of approved for use in 2021. You can grow cucumbers in a garden bed, in greenhouse conditions, on a balcony or kitchen windowsill. The hybrid is zoned for all climatic zones of Russia.
Description of the variety
Handsome Hikmet is a determinant plant with moderate branching, weak foliage with dark green leaves, a developed root system and a slow appearance of lateral shoots. In addition, the bushes have a powerful central stem, good climbing ability and pronounced pubescence of the surface of branches / shoots.
During the flowering period, yellow female-type flowers appear on the cucumber bushes. In each node, 2-3 greens are formed. The hybrid belongs to the class of parthenocarpic (does not need insect pollination).
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents
Early ripe greens are characterized by an attractive appearance. Fruit grows aligned. On average, the weight of one cucumber is 85-90 grams with a length of 6-10 cm. The shape of vegetables is correct - cylindrical. The ripe cucumber is evenly covered with a dark green color, which is diluted with barely noticeable light stripes. The peel of zelents is thin, covered with large tubercles, small spines and a light edge.
It is recommended to choose cucumbers regularly - every 2 days, otherwise they will outgrow, deform, an unpleasant bitterness will appear in the taste. The harvested crop can be transported over long distances, as well as stored for a long time, providing the right conditions.
Purpose and taste of fruits
Hybrid cucumbers taste great. The flesh of the vegetable has a dense, tender, fleshy, crunchy texture without empty formations and bitterness. The taste has a slight sweetness and a bright, refreshing aroma. The peel is not tough, and there are a minimum of seeds inside the pulp.
Cucumbers Krasavchik Hikmet are eaten fresh, they prepare salads and various assorted vegetables, as well as canned whole, pickled and used for pickling.
Maturation
The hybrid belongs to the early maturing varieties. The growing season lasts only 25-30 days. The germination of sprouts is massive. Ripening of fruits occurs amicably, so you need to choose zelents often, as this will allow new cucumbers to ripen. The tasting and harvesting period starts at the end of June.
Yield
The yield of the hybrid is excellent if you provide basic plant care.On average, 5.4 kg of crispy greens can be collected from 1 m2 of plantings. By growing a crop in a greenhouse, you can count on more bountiful harvests.
Landing scheme
When planting plants, you should observe the distance and density of placement of cucumber bushes. It is recommended to plant 3-4 bushes per 1 m2. The optimal layout for planting is 60x15 / 20 cm.
Growing and care
Planting is carried out by seed or seedling, which is considered more appropriate. Bushes with a height of 20-25 cm with 3-4 true leaves and a developed rhizome are suitable for planting. Seeds are sown in the garden in the second half of May, and seedlings in early June. Immediately after disembarking in the garden, it is recommended to cover the bushes with foil at night. Tomatoes, potatoes, or legumes are good precursors for cucumbers.
Cultural agrotechnics consists of a number of activities - irrigation with warm water, fertilization every 2 weeks, loosening and weeding of the soil, tying bushes to supports, shaping and pinching, disease prevention.
Soil requirements
The plant grows comfortably on fluffy, breathable, moisture-permeable, fertile soils with low acidity and deep groundwater. As a rule, these are sandy stones, chernozems and loams.
In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.
Required climatic conditions
Handsome Hikmet is a heat-loving and shade-tolerant plant that grows in areas where there is a lot of sun, light, heat, but there is protection from drafts and cold winds.
Disease and pest resistance
Due to its high immunity, the vegetable is able to resist powdery mildew and root rot. Cucumber is tolerant to Alternaria. Melon aphids and sprout flies are dangerous pests for the culture.
Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
