Chinese cold-hardy - a variety of cucumbers that does not have its own seeds, but with very long fruits. In this article, we will analyze how to properly plant and care for it.
Description of the variety
The cultivar is a hybrid of a parthenocarpic species. It is shade-tolerant and cold-resistant, as the name suggests. The variety is planted in open ground, film and winter greenhouses.
Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and zelents
The bush grows to a height of more than 60 cm and has practically no side shoots, so gardeners often tie it up vertically or on a net. Fruits of the eastern "dragon" reach 30-50 cm, have a dark green large tuberous surface. They can curl up and down the fetus in a funny way - this is absolutely normal. The diameter of the greenery is 3-4 cm.
Purpose and taste of fruits
The fragrant fruits have a good, slightly sweet taste. The variety has a table purpose and is suitable for salting, canning, fresh consumption. And also gardeners advise a hybrid for vitamin salads. The average weight of one green tea is 150 g.
Maturation
Chinese cold-hardy - medium early variety. The period from the first shoots to the beginning of the formation of the crop takes 50-55 days.
Yield
The variety is high-yielding. From one bush they collect 20, at best 30 kilograms.
Landing scheme
When planting or sowing a plot with Chinese cold-resistant, they adhere to a scheme of 50x70 cm, where the first indicator is the distance between the bushes, the second is the distance between the rows.
Growing and care
The variety takes root well both in the open field and when planting with a film cover. The first option means a site located in the southern regions. The second case is often necessary for the cultivation of crops in the cold northern regions.
Planting in open ground is carried out both by seed and with the help of seedlings - at the discretion of the owner. The seeds are preliminarily selected - they are soaked in water for half an hour, those that remain at the bottom are suitable for planting. For them, you can bring a weak solution with potassium permanganate. Then they can be safely planted in the ground, or carry out another operation.
Some gardeners germinate the seeds of this variety by leaving them in a damp cloth in a dark place. "Shoots" appear in 1-3 days.
Chinese cold-hardy is more often grown by the seedling method. Seeds, 2 pieces each, are placed in peat pots or plastic cups filled with drainage and earth. The hybrid has a powerful root system, so the capacities should be larger than average.
The soil is mixed and a mixture of peat, sawdust of deciduous trees, sand and humus is introduced in a ratio of 6: 1: 1: 2, respectively. Seed material is planted to a depth of 2 cm, moistened and covered with foil. Seedlings are left in a dark, warm and dry place for 3-5 days.
With the appearance of the first shoots, the film is removed, and the plants are transferred to the sun. Bushes are planted in the second half of June.
The option with planting in a greenhouse implies the beginning of procedures in May. Ridges with a height of 30 cm are formed. Trellises are prepared in advance, the soil is disinfected and fertilized. A film is stretched over it for a couple of days - to warm it up.Before planting the plants, a pinkish solution of potassium permanganate can be added to the wells. The planted plants are slightly huddled and watered abundantly.
Sawdust or rotted foliage is recommended for mulching. Actions are aimed at retaining moisture and protecting plants from weeds. For the proper development of the root system and saturation of the soil with oxygen, as well as to prevent the appearance of a number of diseases and pests, the site must be loosened.
Chinese cold-resistant - moisture-loving hybrid. Watering is carried out as the soil dries up. In addition, the variety needs periodic spraying. Four times a season, the plant is fed under the root (or by spraying). Gardeners are advised to alternate mineral and organic fertilizers.
In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.
Disease and pest resistance
Chinese cold hardy has good immunity.
However, even he is susceptible to a number of diseases and pest attacks:
fusarium;
gray rot;
cucumber mosaic;
powdery mildew;
melon aphid;
spider mite.
The vertical garter method is conducive to preventing any of the diseases. Severely neglected ailments can deprive you of a good part of the harvest. If the plant has been sick for a long time, gardeners resort to chemicals or similar alternative methods (such as creating a solution from laundry soap to treat the leaves from spider mites).
An environmentally friendly crop is obtained due to the abandonment of chemicals. They can also be replaced with familiar means: pharmacy iodine (against fusarium) in a solution with water (1: 2). Prophylactically against pests around the perimeter of the garden, plants are planted that repel insects with a smell - marigolds, dill and others.
Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
