Cascade is one of the best cucumber varieties of domestic selection. This crop has long been famous for its yield and versatility.
Breeding history
This variety appeared in the Khabarovsk Federal Research Center of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1977. The cascade was approved for use and included in the State Register in 1982 for zoning in the Amur Region and the Khabarovsk Territory.
Description of the variety
The variety is intended for cultivation in open land. The plant is of medium vigor (medium-sized), therefore it grows up to about 1.5 meters in height (with a vertical garter). The bush has a female flowering type and belongs to bee-pollinated.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents
The bush has medium branching, sparse pubescence and is quite compact in itself. It has few leaves, they are all medium in size, have a rounded shape and are light green in color.
The fruits are usually short, but strong: they reach 13.5-16 cm in length and 4 cm in diameter. The average weight of one cucumber is 106 g, the maximum weight is 125 g. Zelentsy have a dark green color and a large tuberous surface.
Purpose and taste of fruits
The cascade has a universal purpose. It is consumed fresh, salted from it, canned, and so on.
The taste is rated at 4-5 points, without bitterness. Fruits are fragrant, with dense, but crispy and juicy pulp.
Maturation
In terms of ripening, Cascade belongs to the early varieties. The number of days from germination to fruiting reaches 35-45. Cucumbers begin to ripen in the middle of summer. The collection is carried out every 2 days, the cut leg 1-2 cm long remains on the bush
In the refrigerator (on the top shelf), the crop retains its taste and physical qualities for a maximum of a week. Also, the variety tolerates transportation well.
Yield
Cascade is considered a high-yielding variety. The average indicator is 127-290 c / ha.
Landing scheme
Up to 3 bushes can be planted per 1 m2 with proper planting. Landing scheme - 60x30. The depth of the fossa is 30 cm, no more. In each hole, gardeners are advised to lay fertilizer in the form of wood ash.
Growing and care
Preparation for disembarkation begins in the fall. The site is weeded and dug up to 40-50 cm. It will be useful to walk with a disinfecting solution (saline or copper sulfate) and apply fertilizers (urea, manure).
The seeds are planted in peat pots, 2 for each. Before making, they can be soaked in a solution of potassium permanganate. Keep the cucumbers in a warm and dry place. Watering is carried out every day. Disembarkation in the southern regions begins in mid-May. The air temperature should reach 20-22 degrees. 3 days before planting, it is necessary to loosen the soil and fertilize it with humus.
Seedlings are transferred to the ground when the fourth leaves appear on the bushes. A week before this, the plants are hardened, taking them out into the fresh air for half an hour and increasing the approach time every day. After planting, the bushes are watered abundantly, hilling is carried out, and closed for the night. The land must be well loosened, removing all unnecessary weeds, and applying top dressing if desired.
Hilling occurs during frosts or summer heat. The level is 20-25 cm. In order for the new root system to take root and not get sick, the Cascade must be properly watered. This is done in the morning or in the evening with lukewarm, settled water. First, the bushes are watered 2 times a week, 4 liters per m2. During the flowering period, approaches are increased up to 3 times a week at 9 liters per m2. During the fruiting period, the graph returns to the previous one, the volume increases to 5 liters per m2.
When planted in open ground, branches can be arranged horizontally; in a greenhouse, the stems are tied vertically. At the same time, blinding is often carried out below the bush.
Soil requirements
The soil for planting must be loose and fertile. The cascade grows well on light soils of sandy loam and medium loamy types. The plot should be located in the sun, ideally on the southwest side of the garden, taking into account the absence of strong winds.
In the case of loamy soils, the Cascade is fed once every half a month. The first time falls on the period of the first 7-10 days, fertilized with wood ash and humus. On other days, until flowering, the bush is fed with solutions of mullein, chicken droppings or peat. During the formation of ovaries, mineral fertilizers are applied under the root of the plant: superphosphate, potassium salt, sodium sulfate.
In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.
Disease and pest resistance
The cascade has good immunity. It has high cold resistance, is resistant to cladosporium (brown olive spot), powdery and downy mildew.
Possible problems:
- cucumber mosaic.
- black flea.
- whitefly.
Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
