The time-tested Far East 27 cucumber is considered one of the strongest, hardiest and most productive. In this article, we will analyze its main characteristics, purpose and nuances of growing.
Breeding history
We owe the appearance of the variety back in 1943 to E.A. Gamayunova, who worked at the Far Eastern Research Institute of Agriculture. Far Eastern 27 was approved for use in 1950 and has been popular among gardeners ever since.
Description of the variety
The variety is considered bee-pollinated. Initially, the Far East 27 was intended for commercial production. Even now, its type of marketability is high.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents
The bush has long branches and branchy branches. Leaves are medium in size, usually greenish to dark green. There are not very many of them per bush, so the cucumbers are well lit. This variety has a mixed type of flowering: male and female flowers appear in approximately the same proportion.
The length of an elongated cucumber reaches 11-15 cm. It has a light green color with white stripes, a large tuberous surface, and on average reaches 100 g of weight, the maximum is 200 g.
Purpose and taste of fruits
Far Eastern 27 is intended for fresh consumption, for pickling and canning. Its taste is excellent, without bitterness. The aroma is palpable.
Maturation
In terms of ripening, the bush is medium. The time from the appearance of the first shoots to fruiting reaches 40-55 days.
Yield
The variety is high-yielding. The average is 6 kg per 1 m2. Harvesting begins in the second half of June.
Landing scheme
It doesn't matter whether you plant seedlings or directly into the ground: in any case, planting is carried out in longitudinal grooves. A shallow depth of 3-5 cm is enough.Far Eastern 27 is unpretentious to the obligatory implementation of any rules, but experienced gardeners recommend keeping a distance of 45 cm between the bushes.In this case, the distance between the beds is made a little more - 70 cm.Thus, for 1 m2 you place a maximum of 3 bushes.
Growing and care
Working with cucumbers begins not with seeds, but with taking care of the land. More details on soil requirements will be described below.
The site is chosen in September, sunny or slightly shaded. It is dug up, enough to a depth of 50 cm, disinfected and fertilized with a mullein solution. The next time the soil is prepared in the spring, 3-4 days before planting. It is weeded again, fed with sawdust and ash.
The landing of Far Eastern 27 begins in mid-spring. Seeds, if we are considering the option with seedlings, are introduced into peat containers in 1-2 pieces. Enough depth of 1-1.5 cm. They must be left in a warm place and watered every day, ideally in the evening. After a week (approximately) the seeds sprout and they can be fertilized with wood ash.
7-9 days before planting, the cucumber is left in the fresh air for 5-10 minutes, every day this time is increased by 10 minutes. This is how the variety gets used to the fresh air and climate. Having reached a height of 15-20 cm, the seedlings are transferred to open ground. This period falls on the 10th of May. Based on the diagram, the cucumbers are rooted in the soil, well loosened and moistened.After this, the sprouts also need hilling, about half of the growth. Further, the bush is often weeded, but this can be done superficially, periodically fertilizing and taking measures to protect against pests.
Bitter taste is a consequence of insufficient watering. It is enough to exercise it every three days. On average, a bush accounts for 12-15 liters of settled water. Watering is carried out at the root, usually either early in the morning or in the evening. It is also important to take into account weather events.
The first two weeks, cucumbers are watered especially abundantly. Cucumbers are very fond of standing water from open iron barrels heated in the sun and collecting water after rain. Cold water can cause root rot. Far Eastern 27 is also good for mulching.
The bush of this variety must be tied up: it has a high climbing capacity, and it needs a certain kind of formation. While in the greenhouse, he is blinded to the third leaf (from the bottom). For a bush, a horizontal or mixed type of garter is well suited. At the same time, barren flowers are left near the bush: they are needed for self-pollination.
Among the fertilizers that are applied to the soil of the Far East 27, gardeners note:
- organic (compost, humus, chicken manure solution);
- superphosphate;
- potassium sulfate;
- nitroammophoska solution.
Soil requirements
An area exposed to the sun or slightly shaded should be level or slightly sloping, with light and non-acidic soil. The soil should also allow air to pass through well. The pH for this variety of cucumbers is preferably in the range of 6 to 7.6.
Experienced gardeners recommend planting flowers next to cucumbers to attract pollinating insects.
In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.
Disease and pest resistance
In general, Far Eastern 27 is considered a strong variety of cucumbers. It rarely gets sick and is resistant to drought and adverse weather conditions. However, cucumbers of this variety are susceptible to the following.
- Root rot. It occurs with problematic dense soil and excessive or cold watering. Externally, the disease can be caught by dark spots in the lower part of the stem. In this case, dusting is used. A suitable mixture for the powder is chalk and charcoal (wood ash can be an alternative). For prophylactic purposes, the plants are sprayed with Previkur once every half a month.
- Spider mite. It occurs as a result of hot weather and high humidity. You can find it on the back of the sheet. In this case, use means "Vermittek" or "Fufanon". Marigolds, onions, wormwood or yarrow are planted around the plantings to prevent and scare away insects: these plants exude an unpleasant odor for ticks.
Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
