Summer residents are engaged in the cultivation of cucumbers everywhere, because this vegetable is one of the most popular in summer. In recent years, gardeners are increasingly choosing hybrid varieties with high yields, because they are easier to grow and they get sick much less often. Buyan may well become such a variety.
Breeding history
Work on the breeding of Buyan took place in the breeding company "Manul", located in Mytishchi. The authors of the variety are Borisov and Krylov. The variety was submitted for evaluation in 1997, and already in 2000 it was included in the State Register.
Description of the variety
Buyan is an indeterminate hybrid of the parthenocarpic type. It is early maturing and quite fruitful, easily tolerates minor weather fluctuations. This variety is grown mostly in open ground, but it is permissible to cultivate it in a greenhouse, a temporary shelter.
The fruits have excellent commercial characteristics, are easy to transport, and are quickly sold out. The only negative is that it is not possible to grow cucumbers of this variety in all regions. In addition, they should be collected from the lashes on time.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents
Buyan has medium-sized bushes with a powerful central stem and weak lateral ones. The lashes of medium size branch well. The foliage is wide, has a smooth or slightly wrinkled surface, wavy along the edges. Possesses a standard green color.
Flowering is female, so ovaries are formed in 100 percent of cases. The flowers are five-petaled, similar to yellow stars. Buyan is a hybrid variety of the beam type. A different amount of zelents can develop in beams. Sometimes there are 2-3 of them, and sometimes the number reaches 7.
Short greens weigh 94-106 grams and grow only up to 8-10 centimeters. They have a cylinder shape and a rich green color. The skin is dense, large tuberous, with white thorns. When outgrowing, the fruits coarsen and acquire a mottled yellow color.
Purpose and taste of fruits
Buyan gherkins have a very attractive sweet taste. There is never bitterness in fruits harvested on time. The aroma is classic, cucumber, very refreshing. Zelentsy of this variety will always find its place on the table at any time of the year. In summer they are used for salads and cuts, in winter they are used canned or lightly salted.
Maturation
Like most hybrids, Buyan has an early maturity. The first cucumbers appear on the lashes on the 44-54 day.
Yield
The yield depends on the season in which the cucumbers are grown, as well as on the frequency of harvest. So, the very first assembly in the summer will not yield more than 7 kg of zelents, but then it will be possible to get 12.3-14.9 kilograms from a square of soil. Cucumbers planted in late summer initially give about 4 kg, and the second harvest just over 8 kg. The marketability of the fruits is 99%.
Growing regions
It is recommended to plant Buyan with originators in the Central, Volgo-Vyatka, and North-West regions.
Growing and care
The timing of planting plants will depend on the place where they are to be grown. So, when planting material directly in open ground, it is worth choosing the second decade of June. If you plant in a greenhouse, this is after mid-May. For seedlings, seeds are sown in early May. Most often, it is the seedling method that is used. Moreover, after 21 days the sprouts will be ready for transfer.
When planting bushes, one must take into account that the variety is prone to overgrowth. Excessive density provokes disease and reduces the amount of the crop. Therefore, in greenhouses there are 2.5 plants per square meter, and in open ground - no more than 4 pieces. It is best if the distance between the shoots is 50 centimeters.
It is required to irrigate Buyan every other day, best of all with barrel water heated by the sun. Sprinkler irrigation is the best method. As soon as the cucumbers begin to grow, watering is carried out daily, in the evening. If a cold snap comes, irrigation is stopped, as well as top dressing.
You need to feed the cucumbers 4 times.
- 2 weeks after planting. Recommended fertilizer includes organics and minerals. An excellent organic option would be a green infusion. From minerals, take a tablespoon of carbamide and 60 grams of superphosphate, dilute in a bucket of water.
- During flowering. Here it will be better to feed with organic matter, for example, with the same green infusion. Also at this stage, the plants will need ash.
- During the period of giving fruit. Again, herbal infusion is used, as well as potassium nitrate diluted with water.
- A couple of days after the third. A baking soda solution is ideal. A bucket of water will need 30 grams of the product.
In addition, it is necessary to timely take care of the soil: fluff, remove weeds. The garter will be no less important. Gardeners practice horizontal and vertical tying Buyan, and often use special nets. But the variety does not need shaping and pinching.
In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.
Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
