Brother Ivanushka is a cucumber variety belonging to the first generation hybrids. It is widely popular among commercial summer residents. However, he receives no less positive feedback from those who grow it exclusively for personal consumption.
Description of the variety
The plant belongs to domestic selection. Access to it was opened in 2006 thanks to the efforts of S. V. Maksimov and N. N. Klimenko. The bee-pollinated crop is grown in the garden and in greenhouses, and its transportability is beyond any competition. The gardeners also noted other advantages of Bratz Ivanushka:
- stable good yield;
- the presence of a large number of female flowers on the bushes;
- gherkin sizes, which are among the most popular among consumers;
- lack of bitterness in the taste;
- fairly fast maturity onset;
- increased resistance to fungal and other diseases.
Gardeners did not find any obvious flaws spoiling the variety. However, crop care must be regular and timely. Another nuance that must be taken into account is the collection of fruits. If you postpone the moment of harvesting, the cucumbers will begin to outgrow and lose the shape required for gherkins.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents
Brother Ivanushka is notable for its rapid growth. At first, indeterminate plants grow rapidly, but when they reach a meter, they slow down this process. The maximum length can be 1.5 m. The stalk in the center is the strongest, thickest, but due to its height it needs to be tied up.
The culture branches moderately, sometimes there are even bushes with very weak branching. The foliage is medium-sized, round, painted in a green tone. There is a moderate amount of it on the bush.
Cucumbers, Brother Ivanushka, grow to gherkin size, which is about 7 cm. The weight of oval fruits harvested on time will be 80–96 g. The latter indicator is a rather rare occurrence, and this is already considered overgrowth. The surface of the fruit is slightly ribbed, green in color. The tubercles are small, but rather densely located. The thin skin is also covered with black thorns.
Purpose and taste of fruits
Zelentsy Brother Ivanushka does not taste bitter and has a pleasant fresh taste. The pulp is dense, there are no voids in it. The size of the cucumbers allows them to be used for whole-fruit preservation. Fresh fruits are no less tasty, they can be used as salads and refreshing summer drinks.
Maturation
Gardeners can taste the first harvest of Bratts Ivanushka 48-51 days after the seeds have sprouted. Sometimes the mid-early terms can be lengthened depending on weather conditions.
Yield
One plant in a warm summer with moderate precipitation gives 8 kg of greens. On plantations, where the area is calculated in hectares, you can get 139–246 centners per hectare.
Growing regions
The most stable fruiting of this variety is noted by gardeners in the Central Black Earth Region. It grows very well in the Voronezh region, as well as near Tambov. In other areas, the crop shows lower yields, but greenhouse cultivation may well improve the situation. If we talk about other countries, then the climate of Ukraine and Moldova will be optimal for Bratz Ivanushka.
Landing scheme
The sprouts of the described variety are arranged according to the 70X30-40 cm system.
Growing and care
In a warm spring and a southern climate, Brother Ivanushka cucumbers are planted with seeds directly into the ground. The variety loves loose and very fertile soil. Excess nitrogen in the soil is harmful to it, so you should be careful with the introduction of organic matter. The place for crops is chosen sunny, in the southern zone of the garden. Seeds are applied to the beds from May 15 to June 5, depending on the weather. Until the moment of germination, they are tightened with polyethylene.
In the last days of April, gardeners are engaged in seedlings, if they have chosen just such a cultivation method. In this case, it is important to try to do without unnecessary picks. In just 3 weeks, the sprouts will be ready for transplantation. They are placed in a permanent place after May 20, these terms are the same for open ground and for greenhouses. If the sprouts are planted in the garden, then you should not place more than 5 plants on 1 m 2. In greenhouses, the density is even less - 3 maximum.
Brother Ivanushka does not like drought, so he needs to be watered abundantly every other day. Irrigation is carried out in the evening, since cucumbers are actively developing in the dark. The water should either stand in the sun during the day, or warm it up. To maintain the necessary moisture, the soil near the plants can be covered with organic mulch. Loosening frequency - 2 times a week, weeding - 1.
Cucumbers grow more actively if they are fed in a timely manner. In the case of this variety, fertilizers should be applied no more than once every 10 days. For the first time, the bushes can be fed with slurry or infusion of nettle and other weeds. This feeding is carried out 15 days after planting. During flowering, cucumbers are fertilized with ash or superphosphates. And when they begin to yield the crop, it is a good idea to treat them with urea or add an ash solution to the soil.
In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.
Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
