The purpose of breeding a hybrid culture of the Marabulka cucumber was to create a variety that would calmly take root on any soils of the territory of Russia. Most of all, attention was focused on the creation of a frost-resistant hardy plant. All the tasks set during hybridization were completed.
Description of the variety
Red mullet is not highly drought tolerant. In order for the growing season not to slow down, systematic irrigation is necessary. Otherwise, the resulting yellowed ovaries will not be retained in the beds.
The root system does not need excess moisture. Otherwise, the roots can start to rot and spread fungal infection. The variety is well developed to tolerate high temperatures. Therefore, the culture grows well in sunny areas. Cucumbers grown in greenhouses do not need lighting.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents
The cucumber bush can be up to 2.5 meters long. The plant is open, does not form many stepchildren, which significantly affects the convenience of harvesting. The flowers are formed predominantly of the female type, which guarantees a high level of fruiting. On each of the flowers, an ovary is formed.
The main stem of the plant is medium in volume, abundant pubescence is noted on its uneven surface. The structure is plastic, but firm. Branching shoots are fragile, forming many whiskers. The bush is densely covered with large leaves, which are fixed on elongated petioles. The surface is ribbed with dark veins. The edges are wavy. The leaf resembles a heart in shape.
The root system is powerfully developed and located close to the surface of the earth. Blooming yellow flowers.
Zelentsy resemble an elongated cylinder. Their weight is 95 grams. The surface is light shades of green, bumpy, there are small thorns. The glossy cucumber peel is immune to damage and heat treatment. A slight plaque can be seen on it.
The pulp is beige inside, has no voids, the consistency is compacted.
Purpose and taste of fruits
The quality of the taste of the red mullet cucumber is marked with the highest marks. The light flesh is tender and soft inside. The taste is rich, close to sweet. No sourness or bitterness is observed. It has a pleasant, but slightly noticeable smell. Fruits are covered with fragile skin, crunchy. Cucumbers retain their pleasant taste and do not turn yellow, even if they are left hanging in the beds for a long time. They maintain their shape well, do not stretch in length.
Maturation
Can be seen in early June. The variety is early maturing. The period from the moment the plant germinates to maturity with greens is about 43 days.
Yield
The culture is capable of bearing fruit for a very long time. Ripe fruits are harvested in several stages. The harvest is always above average. The plant does not need additional pollinators. Up to 7 kilograms of the crop can be harvested from one greenhouse bush, and an average of 14.8 kilograms from one planted square meter. The number of fruits given by the plant directly depends on the weather conditions and the flow of liquid. Therefore, it is recommended to water the cucumber of the Marabulka variety with abundant water throughout the growing season.
Landing scheme
Cucumbers are cultivated using a seedling and non-seedling method. Most often, the second option for sowing seeds is used, when they are planted directly on the ridge, doing a certain preparation of the seeds.
The best seeds are selected first. I immerse them in a saline solution.
The best seeds are disinfected in warm potassium permanganate for half an hour.
Then they are washed with plain water.
Then, for two days, the seeds are hardened in a moistened material placed in the lower part of the refrigerating chamber.
The ridges are filled with a small amount of warm water and covered with foil. After three days, the seeds can be planted.
Before the plant begins to germinate, you need to cover it with any cloth. Thus, seedling growth will accelerate. In addition, they will be reliably protected from the effects of low temperatures.
Seeds are planted first in a special container, which is then also placed in the ground. This is done in order to avoid injury to the root system of the plant. A hole is made in the ground, which in size should be 5 centimeters larger than the size of the container. Seedlings fall asleep to the level of the lower leaves. The recommended distance between rows should not be less than 45 centimeters, between bushes - up to 35 cm.
Growing and care
The Red mullet is watered only with warm water, it is most desirable - drip and in the morning. At the stage of active growth of the bushes, they must be systematically watered abundantly. This is done exclusively at the root in order to avoid drying out the earth and retaining moisture in it.
5 days after planting, the cucumbers are fed for the first time with mullein and ammonium nitrate. Then fertilizers are applied under the root of the plant a couple more times when the ovaries are formed. For this, you can use potassium salt or superphosphates. Organic fertilizers are used to accelerate the formation of ovaries.
So that the bush does not grow too much, it must be periodically spud. In greenhouses, they are tied up already 7 days after disembarkation, and in open areas - after two weeks.
Soil requirements
The plant needs an area flooded with sunlight with soil, which is properly drained before planting a cucumber. The groundwater level should be at a sufficient depth so as not to reach the root system of the plant. It is necessary to provide shelter from the wind, the Red mullet does not tolerate drafts.
In the autumn, it is necessary to dig up the soil on the site. Sometimes it is recommended to add lime or dolomite flour to the soil if it is acidic. And also manure or saltpeter is added to it. In the spring, the soil is loosened and fed with organic fertilizers.
In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.
Required climatic conditions
In areas with a high risk for agricultural activities, the variety is grown in specially created greenhouse conditions. In places with a temperate climate, a covering method of growing cucumbers is used, in the southern parts of the country - an open method. At the very beginning of the growing season, the plant is able to tolerate temperatures up to +6 degrees without problems. In places with a mild climate and warm spring, cucumbers are not covered with a film.
Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
