Each gardener on the site necessarily grows cucumbers. Experienced summer residents do not have any difficulties with choosing one or another cucumber species, but for beginners it is much more difficult, since it is necessary to choose a variety that is unpretentious in care and gives good yields. These are the characteristics of the Dutch hybrid Adam.
Breeding history
Cucumbers Adam is one of the sought-after species created by breeders of the Dutch agricultural firm Bejo Zaden B. V. in 1998. Vegetable culture quickly gained popularity and in 2002 was included in the State Register of the Russian Federation. The hybrid is approved for cultivation in all climatic zones of Russia. A vegetable can grow in a garden bed, in a film greenhouse, and in a heated greenhouse structure.
Description of the variety
The hybrid Adam is a medium-sized bush of an indeterminate type, which has a strong central stem with pronounced pubescence, long lashes, moderate thickening with small bright green leaves and a developed root system. It is characteristic that few lateral shoots are formed, but they are quite powerful.
The Dutch cucumber variety belongs to the group with the female type of flowering, so there are practically no barren flowers. During the flowering period, large, bright yellow flowers are formed on the bushes. The plant does not need additional pollination by insects, since it is self-pollinated.
Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents
The Dutch cucumber is endowed with an attractive presentation. On average, vegetables grow weighing 90-95 grams and up to 10 cm long. The shape of the zelents is neat - cylindrical, leveled, with a small knobby surface and a dense edging. The peel of the cucumbers is thin, non-rigid, covered with soft and prickly thorns. The color of vegetables can be light green or dark emerald, which is diluted with short white stripes and blurred spots.
The harvested crop can easily endure long-term transportation and can be stored under the right conditions for up to 12-14 days. It is important that ripe cucumbers on the bushes do not outgrow, do not turn yellow, do not become barrel-shaped, if they are not picked in time.
Purpose and taste of fruits
Cucumbers Adam, despite being a hybrid variety, has an excellent taste and aroma. The vegetable has a dense, fleshy, tender and juicy structure without wateriness. Cucumbers have a pronounced taste - slightly sweet, complemented by a strong refreshing aroma, without bitterness. A feature of the variety is also considered to be that the cucumbers are crispy. The peel is absolutely not felt when eating greens. The seeds in the pulp are very small and not firm.
The purpose of the variety is universal - the cucumbers are eaten fresh, added to salads, canned whole, pickled, salted in barrels.
Maturation
Adam belongs to the class of early maturing hybrids. From the moment of mass germination to the ripening of vegetables on the bushes, only 45 to 52 days pass. Cucumbers ripen together, however, if you pinch and remove lateral shoots in a timely manner, then the fruiting period will stretch, which means that the yield will increase slightly. It is recommended to choose cucumbers daily.
You can taste the first zelents in the second half of June, and the mass ripening of vegetables occurs in July. The timing of fruiting directly depends on the climatic characteristics of the region where the vegetable crop is grown.
Yield
The Dutch hybrid is renowned for its excellent yields. If you provide a vegetable crop with comfortable growing conditions, then about 10 kg of crispy cucumbers can be harvested from 1 m2.
Landing scheme
It is important not only to choose a good place for planting the plant, but also to follow the rules for placing bushes in the garden. The optimal layout for planting is 30x70 cm. 2-3 bushes can be placed per 1 m2, no more, which will allow the plants to receive a sufficient amount of heat, light and air.
Growing and care
Planting culture is carried out by standard methods - seed or through seedlings. The seedling method provides earlier picking of cucumbers, and also gives larger yields. Bushes 20-25 cm high with a strong stem and 2-3 true leaves are suitable for planting.
It is recommended to plant seedling bushes on a garden bed when the air temperature has stabilized and the soil has warmed up enough. Planting is most often done in May. It is advisable to plant greens in an area where vegetables such as potatoes, onions, beets, corn or tomatoes were previously grown.
Plant agrotechnology consists of a number of standard activities, however, there are some features that must be taken into account in order to get a high yield.
So, the cucumbers should be watered with warm water (temperature + 22-24 degrees), especially the culture needs watering during flowering, top dressing, alternating organic matter with mineral fertilizers (5 times per season), loosen and weed the soil, which will slow down the growth of weeds and will ensure proper air exchange, from time to time to spud the bushes, which will prevent the exposure of the rhizomes.
In addition, the plant needs pinching - the procedure is carried out after 6-7 leaves appear on the bush. This procedure helps to increase yields. Do not neglect the prevention of diseases and the invasion of insect pests, as well as the garter of bushes, which will facilitate the procedure for leaving and harvesting.
Soil requirements
The plant is demanding on the quality of the soil. For cucumbers, a nutritious, well-fluffed, moderately moist, breathable soil with a neutral acidity is suitable. In acidic and heavy soils, the vegetable grows poorly. Sandy and sandy loam soils, rich in organic fertilizers, will be optimal for growing a Dutch hybrid.
In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.
Required climatic conditions
Adam is a thermophilic culture that is comfortable to grow in an area where there is a lot of light, sun, air and heat. The plant easily tolerates heat and short-term shade, but reacts poorly to drought and recurrent spring frosts.
It is important that the site is well protected from the north wind and drafts. In addition, despite the fact that cucumbers love moist soil, they do not tolerate stagnant moisture in the area, so the flow of groundwater should be deep enough.
Disease and pest resistance
The hybrid is endowed with excellent immunity, therefore, it is resistant to a number of diseases - the cucumber mosaic virus, brown olive spot, powdery mildew. If the technology of planting and care is violated, the plant may be exposed to sclerotinia, anthracnose and peronosporosis.Of the pests attacking the plant, only aphids can be isolated, which insecticides will help get rid of.
Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
