How to choose wallpaper with monograms?

Anyone who has ever renovated a room knows that unusual wall cladding techniques play a key role in design. It is they who set the tone for the style, fill the space with the desired atmosphere and are able to visually change the space. One of the extraordinary solutions is wallpaper with monograms: this technique is unique, it requires a careful approach to the selection and matching of furnishings.

Initially, the monogram denoted a special monogram indicating the first capital letters of the name or surname, status and position in society. It was a kind of seal of aristocrats and monarchs, which was applied to coins, heirlooms, luxury goods and clothing. Outwardly, she represented lace letters framed by a variety of weaves that were personal, family, female and male. Monograms could be monochromatic or contrasting, made, for example, in the form of a gilded accent and faded performance.

If earlier this drawing was a single one, modern wallpapers with this theme are distinguished by a characteristic repetition of a monogram with a frame in the form of lace curls, leaves, lianas, and floral motifs. Today the monogram is not a letter: it resembles stylized flowers of a peculiar shape, like a rhombus, an inverted drop, an oval.

Despite its importance in decor, many trade marks call cloths with monograms in which there is lace, but no monogram itself.

The choice of wallpaper with monograms is often perplexing: they look beautiful on a roll, but they are far from always harmonious in the interior of a particular room. This is a design that always catches the eye, even if it is done in muted and neutral shades. The pattern assumes a strict selection of furniture, its compliance with the status. The decoration is considered royal, so even the materials of the furnishings matter: there cannot be plastic furniture, trendy methods of combining materials. This is aristocracy, expressed in everything.

The drawing of modern canvases is unique. In addition to the main theme, it can have borders in the form of vertical stripes, decorated with similar curls. Some canvases are made in the form of carved leaves arranged on twisted stems. Others resemble a plant net in which large flowers have blossomed. Some varieties of the pattern are made in the form of a bud with sepal lace. Some wallpapers to fill the main background have an imitation of an expensive marble surface.

Depending on the size of the print, the departure from the classic monogram, the wallpaper implies lightness or solemnity. However, in any case, they are not combined with colorful curtains or tulle. This is the case when solid color spots are appropriate. The shades of interior items are selected in such a way that they do not merge with the tone of the curtains. You can use the color of the pattern, but it is preferable to decorate the windows with white curtains.

• differ in a variety of textures, due to which the monogram accents can be embossed, highlighted by means of contrasting pigment, gilding, embossing;

• have a rich palette of noble color shades, which allows you to successfully fit the wallpaper into the interior of existing furniture without interrupting the design idea;
• are included in the line of popular drawings, through which you can demonstrate well-being and excellent taste;
• are able to visually beat the sharp corners of furniture, the design features of the room, making the interior softer;
• are an original stylistic solution to various design techniques, harmoniously fitting into classical, modern and ethnic styles;

• due to the pattern, they are practical and do not give out small dirt formed in the process of accidental mechanical touches;
• thanks to the lace pattern, they perfectly mask minor irregularities in the walls, without giving out small bumps and pits to the light;
• having a different composition of raw materials, the complexity of the pattern, additional finishing (glitter, spraying) and impregnation (antibacterial, antimicrobial, antistatic), differ in different costs, which allows the buyer to find his own option, taking into account taste and budget.

Having a number of advantages, this finish is not without its drawbacks:

• are canvases with a repeating pattern, which, regardless of the width, have to be combined, which is not always possible due to uneven walls or different panel tension;
• due to the need to combine the print, they need to purchase an additional amount, taking into account the rapport;

• fill the space with a certain massiveness, therefore, they require a careful choice of contrast so as not to overload the situation;
• in most cases, they need a softening companion, otherwise they pose certain difficulties in the selection of upholstered and cabinet furniture, bed linen textiles, curtains, decorative pillows with a print;
• must take into account the overall size of the print, otherwise they can reduce the space of the room.

Wallpaper with monograms belongs to the line of roll wall coverings. The canvases come in different widths, but the most popular finishes are meter wallpaper. They are more expensive, but they are easier to glue, reducing the number of joints. Interesting options for this finish include wallpaper:

• Paper - budget thin and dense varieties, available to everyone, often having a smooth surface, simple drawing, occasionally spraying. Designed for a maximum of 5 years, they are divided into single-layer and double-layer, in most cases they give out all the irregularities of the prepared wall;

• Vinyl - expensive wallpaper with a premium appearance, made on the basis of vinyl or non-woven fabric, characterized by a porous, smooth, hard and noble embossed texture, which well mask the unevenness of the walls, but over time emit formaldehyde vapors into the air;

• Non-woven - an alternative to vinyl canvases, more elastic and easy-to-paste meter-wide canvases, differing in average thickness, expensive appearance, air-permeable and harmless to health, but eventually attracting dust to the surface;
• Textile - models with a paper backing and a woven front side in the form of textile fibers or weaves of threads glued to the paper, which look expensive, beautiful, but capricious in pasting and cannot stand the adhesive on the front side (they are glued to the glued wall).

Color solutions of wallpaper with monograms are divided into three directions:

• monochrome tones;
• natural group;
• color contrasts.

All groups are characterized by a soft contrast: the presence of rough combinations of colors deprives the pattern of tenderness. In the first category, white and gray, gray and beige are often combined.

The print size can be small, medium-medium or large. As for popularity, light shades are in priority: dark varieties conceal the useful area and lighting of the room. Moreover, you need to choose wallpaper taking into account an interesting feature: the desired tone for the interior of the room, the illusion of light and temperature is set by the wallpaper pattern. If it is an option with a whitewashed background and a black base, there is a risk of buying a gloomy wallpaper. If you choose a canvas with a coffee background and silk-screen printing, the space will be filled with light.

When choosing wallpaper with monograms, it is important to take into account a number of factors, among which it makes sense to pay attention to examples of experienced designers:

• Brown monograms on a sandy background go well with a white armchair, a dark sofa and a light tone of the flooring;

• An aristocratic style can be created by combining nude embossed wallpaper, choosing a striped companion for wallpaper with monograms, using a white ceiling, bleached carpet and chocolate furniture;

• Accent wallpaper with a cream background and embossed finish, shimmering in gold in the light, looks great in the interior of a room with a gray sofa, a laconic floor lamp, diluted peach-colored walls and light brown flooring;

• If there is a lot of black in the interior, wallpaper with a cream background and a gray pattern is purchased, the presence of a live green color (for example, in the form of flowers or greenery) and a brown shade of the floor is mandatory;

When choosing canvases, do not forget about square meters: if the room is small, large patterns will be inappropriate.
