How to choose a set of heads?

Every craftsman, be it a car service worker or a fitter, will one day face the need to work with a set of wrenches and bits. Key heads and flat (curly) bits help out where it is impossible to approach with pliers and a regular screwdriver.

In addition to the basic set of heads and bits, non-essential components are used to help speed up the repair.

The wider the set, the more expensive it costs. A simple set of key sockets includes 13 work items. In more multifunctional versions, their total number reaches 573 - they are used, for example, at service stations.

In addition to the set itself, an important factor is a box or trolley in which all the components are transported.

The list of hand tools for all types of work is impressive. A ready-made set is a whole arsenal.

• Ratchet wrenches... In addition to the ratchet mechanism and 10 cm extension, the set includes 10 wrenches, which are required for nuts from 4 to 13 mm. Long wrenches have a 10-15 cm extension and an extended head.

• Ratchet assembly is 15.5 cm long, including the seven-centimeter handle. The mechanism includes a head reset button and a ratchet travel switch.

• End ratchets... Socket heads are essentially box wrenches. The set includes heads with a wide range of values, additional bits for screwdrivers, turning tools and even open-end wrenches. The instrumentation is supplied with a ten-centimeter extension cord.

• Quarter-inch hex sockets... Equipped with a 24-tooth ratchet, which is easy to disassemble - the cover is held by only two screws. The length does not exceed one inch.

• Ratchet 24 teeth too small for a smooth ride. But the rubberized handle allows you not to drop the key during operation. The head reset button allows you to quickly replace the head.

• Sockets on ⅜. These are socket wrenches for nuts and bolts with heads from 8 to 22 mm. Suitable for both home and car repairs, for example, when adjusting the engine valve train.

• ½ socket wrenches... This option belongs to the most common set of socket wrenches. Dimension - 8-32 mm. Resistant to breaking the edges of a square with this size. It is easy to work with a key on large sizes, but on the smallest ones, you can either break off the edges or spoil the thread.

• Sockets on ¾. The ¾ dimension is the largest available under the square. The size ranges from 19 to 46 mm. It is mainly used for the repair of agricultural and military vehicles.

• Impact heads. A set of impact sockets is used as bits for a pneumatic screwdriver. The heads are mainly used for construction work, have an extended range of sizes and withstand shock loads.

The advantages of these products:

• smelted only from selected tool steel;
• precise dimensions - ensuring a perfect grip;
• thickened walls are adapted to significant torsional loads;
• safety and reliability;
• compatibility with many drives.

The number of components in a set is determined only by its type. This includes the products described below.

• Hexagon - the most modern and demanded key. Resistant to rounding of the face when working.
• Dodecahedron Is an advanced twelve-sided key. 12-point wrench is compatible with hex clamps. More disruptive but less common. The set of such keys is very limited.
• SL key. Helps to remove heads with chamfered edges. Similar to hexagons, but grips fasteners much more tightly. To avoid damage, the most suitable fastener for the head is selected.
• Universal key. Good for all of the above fastener heads. Unsharp adhesion to edges - easily breaks down.
• Extended wrenches... The height of each head is much higher - from 5 cm. It is used for fasteners buried in the structure.

Among other components, we highlight the following.

• Star Socket Kits. Sprocket (pentagonal nut) heads include sprocket nut sizes from 4 to 22 mm. They are presented in different sets, the length of the extension cord can vary from 4 to 15 cm. The magnetic attraction excludes the loss of such keys, wherever the worker is in the process of maintenance and repair of equipment.

• A set of wrenches for screwdrivers. The impact wrench is a device with elongated heads for different nuts with sizes from 4 to 40 mm. The larger the set, the richer the spread under the nuts it has. Also has a special design for magnetic attachment of the extension cord and a rubberized handle. Large impact wrenches are equipped with a special lever that resembles the handle of a socket wrench or a hex wrench. The impact wrench is often used with a drill where a tremendous amount of bolting is required, which can be tightened in the shortest possible time.

• Power heads. The category of power (large) heads includes all types of heads made of high quality tool steel, including chromium components, designed specifically for large nuts and bolts with a size of 27 mm or more. They are used for the installation of capital structures, for example, masts or supports. Also found in auto repair, for example, to adjust the valve mechanism, where it is required to rotate the engine crankshaft.

• Small heads... On the contrary, non-power components belong to small heads. They are needed for the repair and maintenance of household appliances and electronics, where large bolts and nuts are rarely used as fasteners.

• Heads for rounded fasteners. Rounded nuts (with smooth edges) resemble a six-petalled flower - an analogue of a standard hexagon with sharp edges. This is another type of fastener used in technology, which excludes outside interference from inexperienced users. Such fasteners for rounded heads vaguely resemble helical gears of various sizes, but not with sharp ribbed ones, but with smoothed edges. Heads for such fasteners are easy to find in any building supermarket.

• Bit sets for screwdrivers and screwdrivers... In addition to the classic cross bits, you can find three-, five- and hexagonal bits on sale. Sets are both of the same type (only cross bits) and composite (several separate sets of bits for different faces of screws and screws, for example, three- and hexagonal bits).

• Open-end wrenches. These are keys of a double standard - on one end of each key there is a "horn", on the other there is an open or closed sleeve with edges. In the latter case, it resembles a shortened wrench. Sizes - for nuts from 4 to 46 mm. A case with such keys is often equipped with a set of screwdrivers, pliers, pliers, wire cutters and even tweezers. A hammer may also be present.

If the budget allows, then it is better to purchase a set containing more elements. In the absence of such an opportunity, it is worth choosing the tool of the most necessary size.
