Where do flies come from in the country and how to get rid of them?
If there is anything to envy a fly, it is its unique vision, which allows the insect to see in different directions. This is why it is so difficult to catch, swat, or surprise her. But flies are considered one of the most annoying insects, which cost nothing to spoil sleep, rest and arrange a whole invasion in a country house.
The reason for the appearance of a large number of flies in the country
Earlier, in ancient times, it was said that the appearance of flies in the house promises wealth. Today, no one will agree with such a superstition: the appearance of flies promises constant anxiety in the house, which has nothing to do with wealth. Flies come to any homestead house with warming. But someone almost does not notice them, and someone they really overpowered.
When the air temperature rises to +10, the flies begin to wake up. They hibernate right in houses, huddled in cracks and other hard-to-reach places. When it gets warm, they leave their "gorges" in search of food. And although the flies have that very unique mesh vision, they cannot see the transparent obstacles - therefore they do not see the window glass. So flies are rushing around the house, unable to fly out. And in the house, insects begin to multiply.
Moreover, they prefer to lay eggs even on food, it is convenient for them to do this on the excrement of pets, in trash bins, etc. Under suitable conditions, at a rising temperature, there are a lot of them and it seems that this invasion cannot be controlled.
Leaving open food means breeding flies, so you need to get rid of this habit.
Why flies are harmful:
- they bite painfully - not as much in summer as in autumn (often a person does not even understand that it was a fly);
- on miniature paws, insects carry infection - from garbage, feces and all kinds of sewage to dysentery and the causative agent of tuberculosis;
- on the body of one house fly - up to 6 million bacteria;
- also on its paws, a fly can transfer eggs of parasitic worms (roundworm and pinworms as well).
Obviously, it is definitely not worth welcoming the appearance of flies in the house, you need to fight with them. And this can be done in different ways.
How to get rid of the house?
There are a lot of folk methods that are quite effective and simple to perform, but you can also choose proven chemical means. The main thing is to make it work.
Chemicals
Aerosols are popular and are always used twice. A two-week gap is made between applications. Among the most famous aerosol samples are Raptor and Dichlorvos Neo. Of course, these are not harmless products, but toxic compounds. Ideally, after using it, it is better to leave the house, and, if possible, go for a day on a visit.
There are other chemicals as well.
- Powders and granules are an alternative to aerosols. The dry powder is diluted with water according to the instructions, and the room is treated with this mixture. We have to take large volumes of trains.
- Velcro tapes. Harmless and simple, effective for a small room.
- Fumigator. Also a familiar remedy, the main thing is not to forget to change the plates in it in time. It does not affect human and domestic animal health. A special plate in the fumigator heats up and releases vacortin, which is toxic to flies - it paralyzes the respiratory system of insects.
In addition to these tools, there are also effective ultrasonic repellents. They generate ultrasound waves of the required frequency, which negatively affect insects. When flies hear these vibrations, they try to fly away.
How to poison, it is up to each individual to decide. At home, few people want to use toxic products, even if they are relatively harmless to humans. Therefore, processing with softer compounds and the use of recipes that give the result without "chemistry" is possible.
Traditional methods
Pungent flies are taboo. They do not tolerate them, they prefer to stay away from such places. Their sense of smell is subtle and well-developed, and therefore there will be a reaction.
Therefore, the room can be treated with different means.
- Essential oils with a pungent odor. Citrus fruits, cloves, lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint are ideal for this. It is great if there is an aroma lamp in the house, with its help the aromas will "walk" throughout the room, scaring away insects. The smell makes its way even into inaccessible corners, which many other products (chemical, for example) cannot do. It is convenient to lubricate the frames of windows and doors with essential oils. Just put a few drops on a cotton pad and run it over the surface. The main thing is to take such a scent that will not cause hostility from the owners.
- Pure cloves. This fragrance is not preferred by everyone in the house, but there are also fans of its "sound". Cloves are known to reveal themselves in many dishes. Her smell is strong, so you just need to pour the cloves into a small container (cup) and leave them on the table.
- Cloves with lemon. Two in one: lemon only enhances the effect of the first component. A few clove buds are stuck in a lemon half and this natural flavor will fight flies.
- Lavender. Lavender growing in pots really scares off flies. It is also one of the most beautiful remedies for annoying insects.
- Onion. Of course, this recipe is not for everyone - it often scares people away. But if possible, you can grease the same frames and openings with onions, the flies will fly away very quickly.
- Bay leaf. Dry lavrushka leaves need to be spread out in several places in the room. The same smell is not tolerated by midges and rodents, so perhaps the bay leaf will help fight several types of parasites at once.
Mint, wormwood, tansy and basil are also not tolerated by flies, and therefore can be used in the fight against them. And tomatoes are also very effective: if you spread the tops of this plant around the house, the number of flies will noticeably decrease. They say that geranium also helps to ward off flies from the house.
If these measures seem insufficient, you can build homemade traps. For example, a jar trap: a cone-shaped paper funnel is inserted into a glass container, bait is poured onto the bottom - it can be apple cider vinegar. That's all, flies will fly to the bait and die. The second option is with a plastic bottle: the top is cut off from it, turned over and placed back, neck down. A cling film is stretched over the neck of the can, several holes are made in it, and the bait is inside.
A fly that gets inside has no chance.
What are the best baits:
- sugar syrup + vinegar, the insect will fly "for sweets", and the vinegar will either kill it immediately, or cause severe poisoning, the fly will inevitably die;
- water with sugar, yeast and honey;
- any spoiled food (especially meat);
- jam.
By the way, you can also make sticky traps yourself. You need thick paper that does not get wet, and a sticky substance. As the latter, you can use sugar syrup (only thick enough), 2 tablespoons of castor oil with 1 tablespoon of liquid rosin. If you don't want to hang the tape, for example, due to its low aesthetics, you can do this: take a glass, spread it outside with a suitable sticky compound, put a flashlight inside for bait.
Control methods on the site
Flies that precipitate plants are called flower girls: iris, beetroot, cherry, onion - these pests have rather romantic names. They look almost like ordinary houseflies, only they have a more graceful body. Such an insect can be recognized by a dark gray body with yellowish spots. The flower girl larvae hatching from the egg eat the plant, and it rots.
An insecticide helps to remove such flies in the garden, this will be the most effective method. You can save yourself from adversity with the help of drugs "Aktara", "Aktelik", "Decis" and their analogues. To save a plant, you need to act as early as possible, before the pest kills the flower or other crop. To prevent the appearance of flies, you need to sprinkle the beds with wood ash. And the larvae wintering in the soil will be destroyed by the saline solution.
You can also plant in the garden plants that repel flies: elderberry, basil, rosemary, mountain ash, mint, lavender, juniper, tansy, fragrant woodruff. Tomato tops and on the site will be negative for flies, if spread out around the perimeter, this will reduce aggression from insects. By the way, such modest flowers as marigolds do an excellent job.
They not only flies, but also a whole list of others that are not particularly useful in the garden, insects are also successfully driven away.
Plastic bottle traps are also a summer cottage way to fight flies. Hanging them on trees, you can save beautiful flowers and other plants from damage by insect larvae. The main thing is to pour the luring liquid into the homemade installation. Even fruit mass from overripe apples or berries will do. Someone pours Coca-Cola into the trap and assures that the flies fly into the homemade device in "shoals".
You can also hang such a trap in the gazebo so that during the day's rest, flies do not get there. But bunches of fragrant herbs high on the walls of the gazebo, under the ceiling, will not be superfluous. And in the evening in such a place it will be especially pleasant to drink tea. Hanging herbs is easier than spraying with something "chemical" or using an aerosol, and it is harmless.
Prevention measures
In order not to think later how to scare away this "winged company", you must not initially attract them into the house. It's the same with the street.
Consider ideal fly conditions that shouldn't be created.
- Food left on the table, spilled tea or compote, an open jar of jam. Food must be hidden so that flies do not fly on them, and so that they do not have time to leave any infection brought on the paws on the food.
- Abandoned trash heaps in the yard with food leftovers. Such mismanagement helps flies to occupy the site and harm the future harvest.
- Uncleared tops, heaps of leaves in the area, overgrown lawn. All these conditions also contribute to the appearance of a swarm of flies over flowers and other crops. A neat, well-groomed site is far from being so interesting to these pests.
- A pond with standing water on the site. Also like flies, and midges too. And the closer it is to the yard, the greater the risks for planting.
- Clogged plums in bathrooms and sinks. It turns out that these are some of the most favorite places for pests. Their larvae settle there. Therefore, plums must be kept clean and dry.
- Lack of mosquito nets. They are not a luxury, they are the simplest barrier protection that prevents insects from spoiling the atmosphere in the house in the warm season.
- Open spaces in the house (various cracks and cracks that are not repaired in time). There the flies will stay for the winter.
