Monarda, or lemon mint, is an ornamental plant that is cultivated outdoors. It can be both an annual and a perennial. It reaches a height of 1.5 meters, leaves and stems have a pleasant aroma, inflorescences are small, of different shades. In autumn, at the place of the inflorescence, a small fruit ripens, inside which the seeds are contained. Their germination capacity lasts for three years. A feature of the plant is the presence of a large number of varieties. The most common of these are Mahogani, Preirinacht and Gadenview Scarlet.

Description of "Gadenview Scarlet"

Gadanview Scarlet is a hybrid perennial with a developed root system. The stems are straight, reaching a height of 80-100 cm. The leaves are oblong, light green in color, and have a mint-lemon scent. In length, they often reach 12 cm, and the inflorescences themselves, located at the top of each shoot, are no more than 6 cm in diameter.

"Mahogany"

Perennial with a developed root system and a long stem (up to 150 cm). This species is one of the largest. The stem has small, dark green leaves.

An attractive appearance is created by inflorescences of a raspberry-red hue. They have a pronounced lemon scent when smelled or rubbed in your hands. The smallest inflorescences are 7 cm in diameter.

A distinctive feature of this species is long flowering. It begins around the middle of summer and ends only in late autumn with the onset of severe frosts.

"Preirinacht"

This is another perennial that differs from the previous one in size.... Here the stem height reaches only 100 cm, in rare cases it can be slightly longer. Purple inflorescences in diameter vary from 6 to 8 cm, bloom only from July to August. The stem and leaves have a pronounced mint-lemon scent.

Other hybrid varieties

These are just the three most popular varieties. Other varieties can be included in the same category. The most commonly cultivated are the following.

  • Monarda didyma - This is a perennial, the height of the stems of which reaches 1 meter. In the wild, it can most often be found near lakes and other bodies of water. In this case, a particularly developed root system is observed, the leaves reach 12 cm, and the inflorescences of a lilac-purple hue are small compared to other varieties - only 5 cm in diameter.
  • Cambridge scarlet - perennial with a stem reaching a height of 100 cm. Leaves are light green.
  • Bee bright - often reaches a height of 150 cm. Differs in strong and branched shoots. Small flowers are collected in lush inflorescences.
  • Melua violet - perennial, which has a relatively long flowering period (from July to the end of September). The inflorescences have a purple hue.
  • Beauty of cobham - a popular perennial, the stems of which reach a height of 120 cm. It blooms from July to August, a shade of purple.
  • Schneewittchen - a perennial plant with white-pink inflorescences.

Each of the above plants can be sown directly into open ground or transplanted through seedlings.

The culture requires complex care, which includes timely watering, loosening the soil, getting rid of weeds. The plant does not require frequent transplants from one place to another.

It is often used to prepare medicines. Monarda helps well with the following diseases: anemia, tuberculosis, fungal diseases of the feet, food disorders of various origins, pneumonia, abscesses, infectious diseases of the eyes and mouth.
