Rolled mattresses
Many buyers who decide to acquire a new mattress are interested in the issue of mobile block delivery. Volumetric models often complicate transportation. With the advent of new technologies, this problem is solved easily and simply: rolled up rolled mattresses are delivered home in the best possible way, without loss of appearance and quality.
Peculiarities
Rolled mattresses have several names: vacuum, vacuum-packed, rolled, in a roll. All of them denote a mattress, rolled up for easy transportation in a roll and hermetically sealed in dense polyethylene. This process is carried out in an automated way.
In the course of packaging, air is pumped out of the cavity of the block, due to which the mat becomes pliable, compressed to a smaller volume and easily rolled into a compact roll that fits in the trunk of the car.
After unpacking, the mattress takes on its shape, completely restoring its layers within 24 hours.
Previously, this technology was applied exclusively to springless mattresses containing an elastic and elastic filler (natural latex, latex-impregnated polyurethane foam, flexfiber, viscoelastic memory foam). Today companies can also pack spring mattresses in this way.
However, not all models can be rolled into a roll: not every type of packing is elastic and has a suitable block thickness.
It is impossible to twist hard orthopedic mats from a thick layer of coconut coir, bicocos, horsehair. For the most part, roll-up mattresses are soft mats. In addition, spring models with a metal frame cannot be rolled up: they do not roll up.
Dignity
Rolled mattresses have several advantages.
In addition to being lightweight for single-handed transport, they:
- are made of modern material that is resistant to deformation;
- have a hypoallergenic, environmentally friendly filler composition, harmless to the skin, making it suitable for every user;
- treated with antimicrobial impregnation, which eliminates the formation of an environment for fungus and mold;
- save the budget on delivery (there is no need to order a separate car and pay for lifting to the desired floor);
- in most cases they have a handle for carrying the mattress;
- mobile in delivery (you can pick it up immediately upon purchase, without waiting for shipment);
- do not form dents and pits in the twisted places in the expanded form, having a good service life (up to 5 - 8 years);
- can be standard or non-standard, differing in block structure and shape;
- suitable for any type of furniture (bed, sofa, folding chair, folding bed) and can arrange a sleeping place on the floor;
- are a block for daily use or a guest, summer cottage option;
- recognized as a good purchase for themselves or as a gift (to parents, newlyweds, friends);
- based on the composition and volume of the components, they differ in different prices, due to which there is always the possibility of buying, taking into account taste and wallet.
Depending on the model, some of these mats can replace toppers or thin mattress covers (models without springs).
Such mats are convenient because they can:
- with a small thickness and varying degrees of rigidity (excluding dense hard) surfaces are able to adjust the convenience and comfort of a sleeping place;
- made of orthopedic raw materials (latex and memory foam), they provide proper support for the user's body, although the preventive effect of such mattresses is small;
- to give integrity to the sleeping bed of blocks, individual modules (relevant for a laid out sofa or armchair);
- disguise problem areas of the old mattress (dents, surface contamination, abrasion of the upholstery), extending its service life;
- change the degree of firmness of the existing mattress, giving the sleeping bed optimal softness.
The convenience of some models is the presence of a removable cover. It is usually made of breathable textile, which allows washing or cleaning, prolonging the attractiveness of the block's appearance.
In addition, it is easier to change a removable model if it has become unusable (companies provide additional covers for part of the line's models, such accessories can be ordered for an individual model or bought a universal plan).
Minuses
Unfortunately, they also have their drawbacks.
Such mattresses:
- you cannot twist yourself during repairs, moving (it is impossible to pump out air, but it is really possible to disrupt the structure of the block);
- do not always fit into the allotted time (spring options require more time - up to 72 hours);
- have a limited period of being rolled up (they can change their original properties if they exceed the period of permissible folding indicated on the package and usually ranges from 30 to 90 days from the moment of rolling);
- cannot be full-fledged orthopedic mats, since they do not have solid layers of the required thickness at the base;
- do not always have an additional effect, in addition to the main purpose.
Regardless of the improvement in manufacturing technologies, such models are not suitable for babies and preschool children. They do not have the necessary support for the spine of a toddler who does not yet have the necessary bends.
With daily use of such a mattress, you can spoil the formation of posture: the surface of children's mattresses should be hard.
Although the low thickness is convenient for transporting home, not all mats are comfortable for sleeping: sometimes the rigid base of the bed (floor) is felt through the thickness.
How to unpack?
Mattresses that roll up in production are easy to unroll.
The instructions for unpacking the roll mat are quite simple:
- the rolled-up mattress is placed on a bed (sofa) or orthopedic base across;
- using scissors, they carefully open the outer film without touching the textile of the cover (it is undesirable to use too sharp objects, because the packaging is quite tight: you can injure the mattress itself);
- the mattress is carefully unwound, without sudden movements and mechanical straightening (the version with springs can be supported so that it does not open sharply);
- the top information about the manufacturer, operating conditions can be removed immediately;
- after complete recovery, remove the film under the block, fill the bed with bed linen (the mattress is ready for use).
In the video below you can watch the stages of unpacking the orthopedic mattress.
A nuance: since all models of rolled mats are different, the information on the packaging cannot be ignored: it contains the term for the complete restoration of the block, during which it is not recommended to use the mattress.
Dimensions (edit)
The parameters of roll-up mattresses are another advantage of such blocks. The linear range consists of models for a single bed, a half-bed and a double bed.
The dimensions of a specific model may differ due to the fact that each manufacturer focuses on their own furniture standards, making products taking into account it (the sizes of domestic and imported models are different).
On average, the size range of mattresses looks like this:
- for one place - 80x190, 90x190, 120x190, 120x190 cm;
- one and a half sleeping - 120x190, 120x200, 140x190, 140x200 cm;
- for two places - 160x190, 160x200, 180x190, 180x200 cm.
Springless models are more variable. In addition to the main size group, their length and width can be 80x195, 80x200, 90x195, 120x195, 140x195, 150x190, 150x195, 150x200, 180x195, 200x195, 200x200, 210x115 cm.
In addition to the classic rectangular shape, they can be of a non-standard form (for example, in the shape of a circle).

Reviews
Rolling mattresses are a controversial topic that has received many reviews on the Internet.
Judging by the comments of users who bought such models for the home, these are not bad mats, which are really convenient to transport, help out great in case of the arrival of guests and are good for summer cottages. In general, however, the majority of buyers prefer regular mattresses with a large volume.
In the comments, users note that the price of rolled mattresses is somewhat overpriced and is about the same as the model with orthopedic and additional effect, which lowers the ratings of such mats.
If buyers consider the price of 5,000 rubles to be adequate, then the cost of 17,000 - 23,000 (up to 40,000) rubles already repels potential customers, because for that kind of money, they say, you can buy a high-quality block with an orthopedic effect and thermoregulation, double stiffness and other models.
