Unusual raspberry Golden Domes ripening closer to autumn can become a real decoration of the garden. Its fruits literally shine in the sun, and a bountiful harvest becomes a good reward for the efforts of experienced summer residents. The variety is unpretentious, well suited for most regions of Russia.
Breeding history of the variety
A multipurpose variety was obtained on the basis of VSTISP by a group of breeders led by I.V. Kazakov. It also included S.N. Evdokimenko, V.L. Kulagina. The variety was entered into the State Register in 2004.
Description of the variety
Self-fertile remontant raspberry Golden Dome is distinguished by a spreading bush formation. Its height does not exceed 130-150 cm, its dimensions are average. The shoots are drooping, strongly branching, covered with hard thorns, scattered over the entire surface of the branches. Good leafy. Replacement shoots are formed moderately, in the amount of 5-6 pieces.
Fruiting occurs on the branches of the current and last year. The offspring of 1 year are less developed, have a green tint. For season 2, they lignify, turn light brown. Light curl of leaves on the branches is characteristic of this variety and is not a sign of disease. The berries have a short stalk, they are easily removed from the bush without loss.
Ripening terms
Raspberries ripen late. Fruiting begins in the 1st decade of August, lasts until the onset of frost. During this period, the bush manages to realize its potential by 70-90%. With remontant cultivation, 1 wave of fruiting occurs in June-July.
Yield
1.7-2 kg of berries are removed from the bush; for industrial cultivation, the harvest is 10-12 t / ha. The variety belongs to subspecies with high yield rates.
Berries and their taste
Ripe berry is golden yellow, when overripe it becomes apricot, round, hemispherical. Fruits are large, on average 3.7-4 g in weight, maximum indicators up to 6 g. Taste range is sweet and sour, dessert, pulp is medium-dense, tender. The dense skin makes it possible to successfully transport and store raspberries of this variety for 1-2 days after harvest.
Growing features
Raspberry Golden Dome grows well on soils with an acidity of no more than 5.5-6.5 pH. To reduce its overestimated indicators, slaked lime is used no later than 14 days before planting, 300-500 g per 1 m2. For the same purposes, wood ash and chalk are introduced into the soil without restrictions, but within reasonable limits. Before planting, the plants are prepared - cut to 4-5 buds, soaked in water for a short time.
Raspberry Golden Domes are grown on a trellis. The first garter is performed when the shoots reach 80 cm in height. It is better to take care of the props in advance, even during landing.
Site selection and soil preparation
When choosing a place for raspberries of this variety, preference should be given to well-lit areas with a fairly high location of groundwater. It is recommended to orient the ridges in the direction from north to south. The site chosen for raspberries is dug up 14 days before planting, separate pits or trenches with a depth of about 50 cm are formed. In them, compost, humus or manure is added in a volume of 10 liters per 1 m2, a drainage layer 20 cm high is filled. It is recommended to use mixed compositions, including wood waste - when rotted, they will give the necessary nitrogen fertilization.
On top of the drainage layer, soil is laid, spilled with water. After 2 weeks, the seedlings can be transferred to the prepared site. To prevent it from overgrowing with grass, you can cover the surface of trenches or pits with agrofibre.
Pruning
This stage of plant care can be considered the main one in the cultivation of remontant raspberries. Golden Domes are no exception. The variety shows the obligatory autumn pruning of two-year-old shoots that have borne fruit. Substitutes are left for wintering or are also removed, shortening to 3 cm.
Spring pruning is sanitary. Sick, dry, weak shoots are removed from raspberries. Overwintered replacement branches are shortened by 20-30 cm. New, 1 year old, are pruned upon reaching a height of 800-900 mm. This is necessary to stimulate branching.
Summer thinning is also necessary. Thickening of plantings contributes to the general weakening of plant immunity, provokes the appearance of insect pests on them. By cutting off excess young growth, most problems can be easily prevented.
Watering and feeding
The variety is moisture-loving, responds well to watering. Normally, 30-40 liters of water are applied per 1 m2 of area. The frequency is adjusted according to the weather, but the ground at the roots should not stay dry for long. After watering, it is recommended to slightly loosen the soil surface.
With proper preparation of planting pits and trenches, Golden Dome raspberries will not need feeding in the first 2-3 years. Light mineralization possible with wood ash extraction.
Frost resistance and preparation for winter
Requires shelter for the winter. Does not freeze when atmospheric temperatures drop to -22 degrees. In sharply continental climatic zones, it is recommended to pay more attention to preparing for winter. Shoots, if they are not cut to the root, as in an annual culture, are bent to the soil, added dropwise, insulated with straw.
Unfortunately, raspberries, like other plants, do not bypass various diseases and pests. Only armed with the knowledge and the necessary means for this, you can cope with such troubles. To help the plant, it is very important to be able to recognize the disease in time and begin timely treatment.
Reproduction
The main breeding method is cuttings. Planting material is harvested in the fall, it hibernates with the rest of the plants or in a special box with sand. Then the cuttings are transferred to a permanent place. Pre-soaking in a solution that stimulates root formation is mandatory.
Review overview
According to gardeners, the main advantage of the Golden Domes in the raspberry tree is the increased resistance of plants to diseases. Subject to the agrotechnical measures recommended by the breeders, the bushes do not need additional treatment with chemical fungicides. In addition, yellow raspberries look exotic, they are often planted as an element of landscape design.
The disadvantages include only low winter hardiness. In cold regions, the variety does not feel as comfortable as in central or black earth regions.
