In nurseries, there is a large variety of raspberry bushes. Some are repaired, others do not have thorns. There are cultures of early or late ripening. Raspberries called Tatyana are already known to many gardeners because of their unpretentiousness and fertility. In this article, we will consider the features of the variety, note the positive aspects and yield.
Breeding history of the variety
The culture was created by Russian breeders in 1993. This variety is a hybrid of the Patricia and Kras of Russia varieties, with several Scottish varieties also present in the admixture.
Unfortunately, this raspberry variety was not declared as the original variety, so it is not listed in the State Register.
Description of the variety
The Tatiana variety was specially bred so that raspberries could adapt to any climatic conditions in Russia.
This crop is unrepairable, bears fruit only once a season. However, the ripening period is rather long, uneven, and this gives the impression that the raspberry will ripen in several passes.
The stems have practically no thorns, and the bushes themselves are quite compact.
Ripening terms
Fruiting begins in the second year of planting. This crop is a representative of a medium early variety. She has a very long growing season. The fruits ripen unevenly. Fruiting itself begins in late June and lasts until August.
Due to the fact that the fruits do not ripen immediately, as in all non-repaired varieties, but in several stages, which is why many consider this species to be remontant.
Yield
During the summer season, Tatyana's raspberries can be harvested up to 5-7 times, as the berries ripen gradually. Up to 8 kg of fruits ripen on one bush.
Berries and their taste
The berries are well attached to the stalk, do not crumble, but at the same time do not cause difficulties in harvesting. The fruits are large - up to 10 g, and double berries can weigh up to 18 g, the surface is pronouncedly bumpy and dense. The berries themselves are juicy, with a uniform pulp. There are few seeds inside, they are small and not felt at all.
The color is deep red, there is a fine hairiness. The fruit is elongated, slightly oval in shape. Each berry is almost the same size.
The taste is pronounced with a characteristic aroma. Excellent balance between sweetness and sourness. After eating the berries, a pleasant aftertaste remains.
Growing features
Raspberry Tatiana is unpretentious, the seedlings take root well and fairly quickly. But the main feature, as well as the disadvantage of this culture, is that it needs to be looked after, pruned. Otherwise, the bush will grow at a high rate, new shoots will interfere with harvesting. The berry will become smaller and dry quickly. And over time, raspberries can even run wild.
Site selection and soil preparation
Like any raspberry, this variety loves neutral or slightly acidic soil. It is best to plant it in a "rested" ground, after digging it up with fertilizers. It is also worth choosing a place so that there is no shadow, the surface should be flat.
In order to plant seedlings, it is necessary to prepare holes of about 0.5 m, the distance between the bushes should be 1.2 m, and the rows should be placed no closer than 1.5-2 m from each other. This is done to make it easier to harvest and to give the raspberries plenty of room. Pour fertilizer into each hole. It can be manure or superphosphate. Fertilizer should be mixed with soil. Before planting, the land should be watered (1 bucket of water), let the water soak and carefully lower the seedling into the hole. The roots are evenly covered with dry earth and tamped.
Pruning
Bushes should be pruned at least twice a year. In the fall, you should cut off all weak, dry branches. You should also thin out the stems that bear fruit for more than 2-3 years.
In the spring, it is worth pruning branches that could not overwinter, or they broke. Young shoots are also shortened.
During the season, it is worth cutting off excess shoots so that the bush does not grow. And you can also make trellises for the bushes so that they grow in a more organized way.
Frost resistance and preparation for winter
Raspberries are protected from frost with humus and straw mulch. The layer should be up to 10 cm. This is an excellent shelter from frost and fertilization.
Unfortunately, raspberries, like other plants, do not bypass various diseases and pests. Only armed with the knowledge and the necessary means for this, you can cope with such troubles. To help the plant, it is very important to be able to recognize the disease in time and begin timely treatment.
Reproduction
Propagation of this raspberry variety is quite simple. It reproduces by growths. To do this, you need to buy several seedlings, plant them, and for the next season, about 10 to 15 young shoots will appear. All that remains is just to dig up young shoots and transplant them to the right place.
And also can be propagated by cuttings, which must be cooked in the fall (no more than 15 cm long). Cut and, having treated with preparations against fungi, plant in the ground, insulate with foil or spruce branches, then remove to a dark place. In the spring, plant in a small greenhouse, the ground there should not be dry. And it is worth waiting until the stalk germinates and gives roots. As soon as the first leaves appear on the seedling, it can be planted in open ground.
