The popularity of Taganka raspberries is growing from year to year. They fell in love with the variety for its unpretentiousness, long-term fruiting, the ability to withstand various dangerous diseases. Each year the Taganka variety produces a bountiful harvest of fruits that have an attractive taste even with minimal effort.
Breeding history of the variety
Taganka is a crop developed by the efforts of domestic breeders. Raspberries were obtained in the mid-70s of the twentieth century thanks to the development of the breeder V.V. Kichina, who presented it at an agricultural fair in 1976. He crossed a representative of Scottish hybrid plants and a raspberry variety Krupna Dvoroda.
Within a few years, the culture became popular. Until now, gardeners have made a choice in favor of this raspberry variety for a number of factors. Taganka has delicious fruits, withstands the negative effects of harmful insects.
Description of the variety
Raspberry Taganka is a remontant variety of culture. The difference lies in the presence of decorativeness, combined with large dimensions. Each bush is up to 2 m high, and with proper care, even more powerful and taller plants are often obtained.
On the plant, you can see countless spreading branches and sturdy shoots. Last year's branches turn brown or brown-brown after wintering the bush. On the surface are short or thin purple thorns.
Foliage is found on the plant in large numbers. It amazes with its size, its color is emerald.
During the growing season, a large number of small white flowers are observed, collected in inflorescences in the form of panicles. It is here that large-sized berries are obtained. Many fruits ripen at the same time.
The Taganka raspberry variety has a number of positive aspects.
High frost resistance. The plant survives winters without shelter, up to 20-degree frosts.
High productivity. Each bush gives an average of 6 kg of tasty, sweet, large berries.
There are many soft thorns along the shoot that do not hurt.
The plant is highly resistant to disease.
Pests slightly damage raspberry bushes.
The presence of the original and delicious taste of the fruit.
Despite the many positive aspects, professional gardeners note some disadvantages in this variety of raspberries. If there is a lack of water, the plant may die. For this reason, the bushes should be watered in hot and dry weather.
The negative point is also the short shelf life of the fruit after harvest. For this reason, it is required to realize the fruits within 1-2 days.
Ripening terms
You can enjoy the first berries already in June. Raspberry belongs to the remontant varieties. For this reason, it bears harvest throughout the summer and autumn, until frost occurs. In the south of the country, you can enjoy the fruits even in November, and in the central zone of Russia, the last berries ripen in September.
Growing regions
The Taganka raspberry variety is able to withstand subzero temperatures, which allows it to be grown everywhere from south to north. But in regions with harsh winters, the plant must be covered. Otherwise, it may die.
Yield
Raspberry Taganka is one of the highest-yielding varieties. Within one season, with proper care, you can harvest up to 6 kg of delicious and sweet berries from each bush. For 1 sq. m of area, it is possible to collect up to 30-45 kg of fruits.
Berries and their taste
Raspberries of this variety are quite large in size. On average, each copy weighs up to 10 grams. The berries are round-conical in shape. The color is characterized by a rich burgundy shade with an attractive gloss.
The pulp of the fruit is striking in its juiciness and aroma. It is colored dark red. On top of the pulp is the skin, which is distinguished by its density. Despite this, it is thin.
The berries are tasty and aromatic. They are appreciated by children and adults. There are no off-flavors in the berry.
Growing features
To grow Taganka raspberries, not much effort is enough. It is necessary to loosen the soil around the raspberry bushes in a timely manner, being careful not to damage the delicate root system.
Among other things, it is recommended to water the plants in a timely manner in hot weather. To do this, under each bush, you need to pour 1 bucket of warm water. The liquid should settle for 2-3 days. Otherwise, the raspberry bushes can get sick.
Site selection and soil preparation
Raspberry Taganka is unpretentious. In order for the plant to grow better, professional gardeners recommend choosing loamy or sandy loam soils with low acidity for it. If the soil has a high level of acidity, quicklime or chalk should be added before planting raspberries.
Suitable for planting raspberry bushes of the land on which green plants, carrots, radishes used to grow. Refuse to plant a crop after such predecessors as potatoes, tomatoes, and other varieties of raspberries.
Before planting, the site is carefully dug up, having previously introduced a mullein into it or sprinkled the area with ash. It is recommended to leave a 30-40 cm distance between the bushes. After planting, the plants need to be watered.
Pruning
When growing the Taganka raspberry variety, pruning is necessary. In the spring, the procedure is indicated for sanitary purposes. This allows for the removal of branches frozen during the winter and broken. Some gardeners recommend not to get rid of the shoots completely, but to make them shorter, leaving the first healthy bud.
When preparing Taganka bushes for wintering, it is recommended to cut off last year's shoots. There will be no fruit on them next season. At the same time, these shoots can significantly weaken the culture.
Avoid pruning the shoots that have developed during this season. It is on them that the fruits will appear next year. An exception is represented by branches that are not lignified. They often cannot stand cold weather and die.
Watering and feeding
The raspberry variety Taganka can die in extreme heat. To eliminate this, you need to regularly water the plant, pouring 1 bucket of warm water under each bush. Before watering, you need to loosen the soil. In this case, the water will be absorbed much better.
Along with the irrigation procedure, it is recommended to apply top dressing. Beware of fertilizing the soil during the fruiting process. Berries accumulate harmful substances, which can subsequently lead to negative effects on humans.
Unfortunately, raspberries, like other plants, do not bypass various diseases and pests. Only armed with the knowledge and the necessary means for this, you can cope with such troubles. To help the plant, it is very important to be able to recognize the disease in time and begin timely treatment.
Reproduction
There are different ways to carry out the procedure.
Shoots with several buds are taken from the bush, placed in water. After a few days, roots appear on the branch. Such a seedling is completely ready for planting.
Experts call seed propagation a laborious way. It is easy to collect planting material. To do this, take overripe berries, place them inside a canvas bag and squeeze the juice, and then dry them. After the seeds are stratified, they are germinated.
The bush is often divided into several parts. The procedure should be carried out carefully so as not to damage the root system.
A popular method is to reproduce with suckers. For this, young raspberry sprouts are taken and transplanted to an empty place.
