Raspberry Kirzhach is a popular variety among gardeners, undemanding to care and giving high yields. It is worth considering in more detail the features of the bush and the rules for growing raspberries.
Breeding history of the variety
Kirzhach was entered into the State Register in the early 90s of the twentieth century. At the same time, the variety was tested for 10 years. Raspberries were bred by Professor V.V. Kichina, crossing the popular varieties Malling Promise and Carnival.
Description of the variety
Raspberry Kirzhach has erect, powerful and developed bushes with a large number of young shoots. Kirzhach bushes begin to form 3 years after planting. New shoots are distinguished by their high density and characteristic waxy bloom. The leaves of the variety are large, strongly twisted, have an oval shape and denticles at the edges.
Ripening terms
The variety has an average ripening period. Kirzhach gives out the first fruits at the beginning of the summer season, the end of fruiting occurs closer to autumn.
Yield
On average, a bush is able to bring up to 3 kg, up to 100 centners of raspberries per hectare.
Berries and their taste
The main characteristics of Kirzhach raspberry fruits:
wide cone-shaped berries with a blunt tip;
bright red color;
light bloom;
sweet and sour taste of pulp;
pleasant aroma.
Raspberries have small seeds. The weight of one fruit is 2-3 grams.
Growing features
Kirzhach can suffer from root cancer if not properly planted and grown. Therefore, it is recommended to plant the bushes away from each other. In the row between the seedlings, there should be 25-35 cm, between the rows it is worth keeping 45-55 cm.
Site selection and soil preparation
Kirzhach is distinguished by its unpretentiousness to the composition of the soil, however, when choosing a place for planting, it is worth giving preference to soil with an acidity of 6-7 pH. Additional requirements for choosing a seat when boarding:
open sunlight;
calmness;
low groundwater table;
lack of reservoirs nearby.
It is recommended to break raspberries in places where legumes and grain crops grow. The best time to plant is in the spring or fall. The first option is suitable for northern regions, the second is better for residents of southern cities.
Watering and feeding
Proper watering will help to improve the yield of the bush. The amount of water applied and the frequency of irrigation determine the climatic conditions and characteristics of the region. In drought, gardeners recommend adding water to the soil 1 time in 10 days. Particular attention should be paid to watering in the spring. For example, in early spring, the plant practically does not need additional moisture, but in May it is worth taking care of it.
Watering should saturate the soil to a depth of 30 cm so that the water gets to the roots of the plant.
Kirzhach has no requirements for the nutritional value and structure of the soil. But at the same time, it is worth taking care of the timely application of fertilizers for the active growth of the crop.
Here is the feeding schedule.
The first 3 years, while the bush grows stronger and stretches, feeding can be omitted. During this period, the plant has enough nutrients that were introduced into the hole before planting the seedlings.
In the spring, when the raspberries are ready to harvest, rotted manure or ash can be brought under the bush. Amount of fertilizers: 1 bucket of manure and 1 glass of ash per 1 m2 of raspberry area.
At the end of spring, when additional watering of the plant begins, it is worth applying nitrogen fertilizers. With their help, the bush will gain strength for the active growth of green mass.
During the fruiting period, raspberries can be fed with nitrophos. To obtain a solution of the desired concentration, you will need to dilute 20 g of nitrophoska in 10 liters of water.
Interestingly, fertilization is prohibited in the autumn. The plant should calmly fall asleep and not waste energy on the release of new shoots.
Frost resistance and preparation for winter
Kirzhach's resistance to winter cold is moderate, so you need to take care of preparing the plant for frost. For this:
in the fall, bend the bush to the ground;
tie the inclined stems to the bottom row of the trellis wire;
cover the raspberries with a nonwoven covering material.
The latter option is most relevant in regions with little snow.
Diseases and pests
The variety is not afraid of most diseases and pests. The only thing worth treating the bush from is a raspberry beetle, curl and root cancer.
Unfortunately, raspberries, like other plants, do not bypass various diseases and pests. Only armed with the knowledge and the necessary means for this, you can cope with such troubles. To help the plant, it is very important to be able to recognize the disease in time and begin timely treatment.
Reproduction
When choosing a propagation method for raspberries Kirzhach, gardeners prefer cuttings. Usually green or brown cuttings are prepared for planting in the summer. In order for the bush to grow, you need:
carefully trim the cuttings at the very edge of the raspberry trunk;
shorten the planting material, leaving 7-10 cm of the cutting;
lower the workpiece into the solution to simulate the roots, leaving them for 12-15 hours;
plant cuttings in a greenhouse or under a film, monitoring and adjusting the optimum temperature and humidity;
observe the growth of cuttings for a month;
plant the plant along with the soil in the prepared hole.
In the case of planting a root cutting, you do not have to wait a month, part of the raspberry root system can be planted immediately. The only condition is to do this in the warm season, when the air temperature rises to +25 degrees.
