Delicious and healthy raspberries are one of the most sought-after horticultural crops. Good varieties require competent agricultural technology, this kind of attention will certainly affect the result. The raspberry variety Gusar is quite popular in our country, bred by domestic breeders. With proper care, you can achieve an excellent harvest.
Description of the variety
The Gusar variety is in demand among gardeners, it has quite a few advantages. The external characteristics are as follows:
- the stems are powerful, they feel great in windy weather;
- the maximum height of the bush is 3 m, in the case of ideal agricultural technology, the average height is from 1.5 to 2 m;
- fruit branches are located throughout the stem;
- the leaves are wrinkled, their color is dark green.
Experts distinguish hussar among other varieties, noting the following advantages:
- large and beautiful fruits;
- high dessert quality, sweet taste with slight sourness;
- great aroma, pleasant pulp consistency;
- fast maturation in terms of time;
- active growth of the bush;
- a small number of thorns at the bottom of the stem, they do not complicate the collection of fruits;
- versatility of berries;
- good resistance to dry weather.
There are also disadvantages that you should not forget about:
- the berries are not too dense, they have a soft structure, so the shelf life is reduced;
- transportation of fruits is difficult for the same reason;
- it is necessary to properly care for the raspberry tree, otherwise the yield and quality of the fruit will sharply decrease;
- despite the resistance to frost, it is necessary to preserve the roots.
Ripening terms
This variety is not remontant, belongs to the mid-season. A little more than a month is enough for the berries to ripen. On average, the fruits begin to ripen by mid-summer. Sometimes, depending on climatic conditions and weather, the timing may shift, but not significantly.
Yield
The yield of this variety is considered quite satisfactory, about 6 kg per season can be harvested from the bush. The berries of this variety are large in size. Fruit weight varies from 3.2 to 5 g, in rare cases up to 10 g.
Berries and their taste
The large-fruited variety Gusar brings berries of a universal type; they can be consumed both fresh and canned. The appearance of the fruit has the following characteristics:
- glossy shine of the surface;
- weight over 3 g;
- elongated-conical shape;
- ruby color.
The pulp is juicy, its density is average, the aroma is pronounced. Dessert qualities are high, the taste is sweet with a sour note. The berries contain a lot of vitamins, including C.
Growing features
For the harvest of raspberry Gusar to be really rich, just planting seedlings is not enough. There are a number of grooming activities that must be performed on an ongoing basis.
- Moisturizing. The variety is drought tolerant, but it is important to water it on time, especially during dry periods. Watering is carried out once a week and a half, about 10 liters are poured onto one bush.Moistening can be done not only by the root method, but also by rain, drip. Rain watering, however, is contraindicated in the formation of fruits - they can rot.
- Garter. Supports for this variety are not required, but when the fruits ripen, it is better to tie up the bushes. This can be done in fan, tapestry ways.
- Pruning. The Gusar variety must be pruned in time, otherwise the yield will decrease. This procedure is carried out after harvest or in the spring, when the frosts are gone. In autumn, about 0.5 m of the bush and branches on which there were no berries are removed completely. In the spring, all unnecessary branches are removed, creating visual density. Fruit-bearing shoots are cut 20 cm from the soil.
- Cleansing and loosening. It is necessary to loosen the soil regularly, otherwise nutrients will not flow to the roots. Loosens the soil about 7 cm deep. Straw and humus are placed on top. Remember to remove the weeds, or they will drown out the raspberries.
- Top dressing. At the beginning of the warm season, it is important to start fertilizing the soil. First, fertilize with manure, when the flowering period begins, you can feed it a second time with potassium-phosphorus compositions.
- Preparing for frost. An annual with cut off stems can easily endure frosts if the roots are mulched. If the winter is not snowy, but unfavorable in terms of frost, you need to create a shelter for the roots.
Site selection and soil preparation
A raspberry of this variety is organized in a lighted place, where there are no strong winds, a draft. It is very important to choose a quality seedling with one shoot at least 1 cm thick at the bottom. It is best to buy planting material in a specialty store, and not from your hands. The composition of the soil is not particularly important, the main thing is that the site is even, well lit, without nearby groundwater. It is optimal to plant Hussar on the ground with good air exchange.
Eggplants, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots should not be pre-grown on this land. Optimum soil acidity is neutral, clay structure is allowed. But it is better to enrich clay soil with sand.
Disembarkation is carried out in spring or autumn, the main thing is freezing temperatures. When planting in spring, there will be no abundant yield, the plant will try to take root as it should. Autumn is a more favorable period, the main thing is to catch at least a third of a month before frost. The hussar can be seated by handicraft, tape or trench methods. It is important to fertilize raspberries with organic matter when planting: humus or rotten manure. The seedlings are pre-soaked for 2 hours.
Diseases and pests
Despite good immunity, it is important to prevent the appearance of such problems. There are a number of diseases and pests to be wary of:
- overgrowth - affects young growth, while a huge number of dense shoots are formed, the development of the bush stops, it is necessary to cut and burn diseased bushes;
- yellow and green mosaics - spots of the corresponding shades are formed on the leaves;
- curliness - shoots are shortened, curl, foliage curls;
- raspberry beetle - harms leaves, fruits, ruins the harvest;
- raspberry mosquito - larvae appear, gnawing the bark and affecting the center of the stem;
- raspberry moth - affects adult plants.
It is very important to prune raspberries on time, carry out spraying with special compounds and remove weeds.
Unfortunately, raspberries, like other plants, do not bypass various diseases and pests. Only armed with the knowledge and the necessary means for this, you can cope with such troubles. To help the plant, it is very important to be able to recognize the disease in time and begin timely treatment.
Reproduction
The Gusar variety is propagated by different methods, and the seed is used very rarely, since the characteristics of the variety disappear. Reproduction by cuttings is much more often used:
- fresh shoots are cut in June and placed at an angle in a greenhouse room, which needs to be ventilated;
- the cuttings are moistened until they take root (about 2 weeks);
- it is necessary to feed with a complex composition and plant the cuttings in the garden.
By the root method, reproduction occurs in this way:
- in the summer, a seedling with shoots of at least 15 cm is dug;
- he disembarks at a prearranged place.
Division of the bush:
- the bush is divided into parts, each is cut to 0.5 m;
- each part is planted separately.
Root cuttings:
- at the end of the season, the shoots are cut into 10 cm pieces;
- they are planted in prepared and fertilized soil;
- planting is watered and mulched.
