The cultivation of raspberries is in constant demand among amateur gardeners and industrial farms. Raspberry variety Galaktika is very popular and in demand due to its high dessert quality, good yield and not much whimsy. The cultivation technique is simple, the shrub takes up little space, and the result is always at a high level.
Description of the variety
This variety is referred to as standard, that is, the form is tree-like, powerful shoots are formed mainly at the top. Breeders from Moscow brought Galaktika, taking into account the needs of different regions of Russia. That is why this variety feels great both in the center of the country and in the southern, northern regions.
Galaxy is a summer variety, semi-renovated, about a fifth of the shoots are formed in autumn, if the weather is hot. The berries ripen at the top of the stems. The variety is universal, Galaxy is good both fresh and canned. External characteristics of the shrub:
- strong powerful shrub of the standard type;
- the height reaches 2 m, sometimes slightly less;
- shoots are formed actively, about 10 substitutes and about 5 root ones are formed on one stem;
- there are no thorns.
Gardeners distinguish the following advantages of the variety:
- strong shoots, resistant to strong winds, the gravity of the berries;
- large-fruited, dense structure of berries;
- juicy fruits;
- excellent sweet taste, rich raspberry aroma;
- suitable for fresh consumption and for processing.
There are also disadvantages to consider:
- whimsy in terms of soil fertility;
- insistence on constant hydration;
- frost resistance is average, and it is difficult to bend the stems down for shelter.
Ripening terms
The beginning of the fruiting period belongs to the middle of summer, you can pick berries for about a month. The average number of harvest waves is 5.
Yield
One bush per season can bring about 12 kg of berries, but this requires perfect agricultural technology. The minimum yield per plant is 6 kg. Large fruits have dense juicy pulp, transportation is undesirable.
Berries and their taste
The berries of the Galaktika variety are quite large, their weight varies from 6 to 15 g, rarely more. The shape of the fruit is elongated, the color is dark red, the surface is shiny. As for the taste, it is quite rich, the sweetness is high, the aroma is bright, traditional for raspberries. Drupes are small, uniform.
Growing features
Raspberry shoots of this variety are quite powerful, it is problematic to break them, but it is still better to tie up the bushes: it is easier to care for and collect fruits this way. There are several types of grooming activities that must be followed.
- Moisturizing. Water this variety abundantly only if the summer is dry.It is important to check the depth of moisture penetration: 40 cm is the norm in this regard. The galaxy is most watered in May, when the fruits are just forming. If the shrub occupies a large area, arrange for drip irrigation.
- Pruning. A sanitary pruning of the Galaxy is carried out in the spring, before the start of sap flow. The upper branches are pinched, everything frozen, dry, broken is removed. In the fall, it is important to remove everything that has borne fruit, if there are signs of repair, the fruiting top is removed. Although the root shoots do not appear very actively, rationing still needs to be carried out, otherwise the raspberry grows gradually in a chaotic manner. The shoots are checked in the middle of summer.
- Fertilizer. It is worth feeding at least 3 times per season. In early spring, the plant requires nitrogenous compounds and wood ash. At the end of spring, organic fertilizers must be applied: mullein or dung. In June, take care of potassium-phosphorus fertilization.
- Preparing for the winter period. The galaxy tolerates frost well, but in the northern regions it should be sheltered for the winter. Severe frosts can severely damage the plant. It is enough to mulch the root system using peat, hay, leaves. The stems are bent to the ground and covered with spruce branches, agrofibre. You can use other types of insulation.
Site selection and soil preparation
Variety Galaktika prefers fertile soil, light, with an acidity not higher than 6.5. The optimal site for planting is flat, not in a lowland, not on a slope or on a hill. Such zones significantly reduce yields. The row spacing during planting should be at least 1.5 m, you can retreat by 2 m.It is better to leave about 70 cm between the bushes, so the bushes will not interfere with each other.
The hole is filled with soil, after laying a layer of drainage. The drainage layer is created from nets, corn stalks, decayed wood. Foliage and tops are laid on it to obtain minerals. Manure with soil and a glass of ash is placed on top. A plant is planted in this mixture and moistened abundantly. The first feeding will be needed in a couple of years, not earlier.
Unfortunately, raspberries, like other plants, do not bypass various diseases and pests. Only by armed with the knowledge and the necessary means for this, you can cope with such troubles. To help the plant, it is very important to be able to recognize the disease in time and begin timely treatment.
Reproduction
There are 2 main methods of propagation of the Galaktika variety: cuttings with aboveground and root material.
- Cuttings-stems. The material is separated at least 25 cm, a little more is possible. It should have 3 very healthy kidneys. In the fall, they are cut, dripped and covered with a film, a layer of insulation for the winter period. In the spring they release, rooting occurs quite quickly and actively, especially if you take into account the rules of agricultural technology.
- Root cuttings should also be prepared before the winter period. They are planted in the soil, moistened. You need to leave them for a year in order to get a full-fledged material for planting. When separating the roots, do not overdo it, you can ruin the entire bush. No more than a quarter of the root system should be removed. The offspring are removed along with the ground and planted from mid-summer until the onset of cold weather.
