Raspberry Eurasia has not yet become widespread. But now more and more gardeners are interested in this crop, as it is characterized by a large yield and ease of cultivation.
Breeding history of the variety
The authors of the universal variety are breeders I. V. Kazakov, S. N. Evdokimenko, V. L. Kulagin. They took him out to the Kokinsky strongpoint of the VSTISP. It was submitted for testing in 2005. Listed in the state register of the Russian Federation.
Description of the variety
Raspberry bushes are self-pollinating, small, upright. The height of the bush reaches 130-160 cm. Shoots of the standard type, annual, thick. By the end of the growing season, they turn purple, with a strong waxy bloom. The leaves of the shrub are large, green, wrinkled. The thorns located at the base of the shoot are sharp, curved. Closer to the middle and upper parts of the shoot, they are short and sparse.
Ripening terms
Raspberry Eurasia belongs to remontant varieties. Has a medium late ripening period. Flowering begins by the end of July. The fruits begin to ripen in August.
Growing regions
Most often, the culture is grown in the Moscow region. But since raspberries have proven themselves to grow even in cold climates, the northern regions are perfect for it.
Yield
The Eurasia variety has a high yield. During the period of full ripening of fruits, 2.2-2.6 kg of berries are harvested from one bush, and 15 t / ha from plantations. For the whole season, they are harvested 2 times.
Berries and their taste
The fruit is conical in shape, large in size. The weight of the berry is 3.7-4.5 g. But you can also find larger ones - up to 6.3 g. The taste of the berries is sweet and sour, with a mild aroma. The consistency of the pulp is dense. Easy separation from the peduncle. The berries have very good transportability and long shelf life. They perfectly retain their taste not only fresh, but also after deep freezing.
Growing features
Raspberries are planted in early spring or late autumn. But the most recommended planting period is late September and early October. A location that is sheltered from the wind and with sufficient sunlight would be ideal for crop growth.
Before planting a seedling, it is necessary to inspect its roots, if necessary, remove damaged ones. After that, you need to place the root system in humus diluted with water.
Begin planting by digging trenches. This must be done so that the distance between the planted bushes is 1.5 meters. Then add soil mixed with fertilizers to the trench. A seedling is placed there, after which it is covered with earth so that the root collar is at ground level. After that, the planting is watered with plenty of water. The fruiting period of the shrub begins in the first decade of August and ends in mid-September.
There are two ways gardeners can grow raspberries: one year old and two year old. But over the years, experience has shown that it is better to grow raspberries in a one-year way. It allows you to achieve a higher yield than a two year old.
Site selection and soil preparation
Any soil is suitable for raspberries, but at the same time there is one feature - in the place where it will grow, there should be no stagnant water. If the location is such, a drainage system must be installed. Preparing the soil should be done in the fall. All weeds and vegetation must be carefully removed from the soil.
Watering and feeding
The Eurasia variety does not like excessive moisture. Therefore, watering should be carried out after the topsoil is completely dry. And you can also use the irrigation of the shrub with water, but this must be done before flowering. When flowers appear, only the root system needs to be watered.
It is necessary to feed the culture at least 3 times per season. In early spring, raspberries are fed with nitrogen-containing fertilizers. In the summer, raspberries are fertilized with the same nitrogen dressings, you can still use fermented horse or cow dung diluted with water. In the autumn, for a good wintering, the shrub will need fertilizers based on potassium and phosphorus.
Frost resistance and preparation for winter
Raspberry Eurasia tolerates winter quite well. Therefore, for wintering, it is enough to completely cut off the shoots of the plant, to clear the soil of weeds. Cover the root system with straw or hay if necessary.
Diseases and pests
The culture is very resistant to diseases and pests. But still, there are several diseases to which she can be exposed.
Overgrowth - when many shoots form on the bush.Because of this disease, raspberries do not bear fruit, and after a while the plant dies.
Bushy dwarfism. The ripe fruit splits into pieces. Raspberry gets this disease from plant pollen.
Anthracnose - the infection damages the shoots and leaves of the plant. Brown spots appear on them.
Septoria. This infection only affects the leaves. After the appearance of spots on them, the leaf tissue becomes dead and a hole appears.
Unfortunately, raspberries, like other plants, do not bypass various diseases and pests. Only armed with the knowledge and the necessary means for this, you can cope with such troubles. To help the plant, it is very important to be able to recognize the disease in time and begin timely treatment.
Reproduction
There are two ways to propagate raspberries: by root cuttings and green cuttings. Propagated by root cuttings according to the usual scheme. It is better to propagate the bush with green cuttings in cool weather. It is necessary to cut the stalk under the soil. The place where the cut was made is sprinkled with ash. The stalk is planted in moist soil. After the formation of the root system, the processes are transplanted to a permanent place.
