Bryanskoe Divo is a Russian raspberry variety suitable for all types of processing, as well as for fresh consumption. It is successfully cultivated on an industrial scale, appreciated for its excellent transportability, resistance to deformation and large fruit size, as well as for its ability to form two fruit branches at once from each node. The variety is also known as the Bryansk Miracle.
Breeding history of the variety
Bryanskoe Divo was received at the Kokinsky support point by breeders Academician I.V. Kazakov and Professor S.N. Evdokimenko. In the course of their work, they used free pollination of a large interspecific form, at that time figured under the number 47-18-4. In 2001, it was allocated to the elite, and 5 years later, it was registered as a full-fledged variety.
Description of the variety
Bryanskoe Divo forms bushes of medium height, reaching 160-175 cm in height. They are distinguished by elegant outlines, open type, power of shoots. Spreading is poorly expressed. Shoots of medium thickness are covered with thorns, the foliage on them is large, dark green in color, with a pronounced relief. Stems are flexible, their color changes from blue-green to almost purple by the end of the season.
Ripening terms
Variety Bryanskoe Divo - remontant, late ripening. Fruiting begins in the second decade of August, lasts until the first frost. Occurs mainly on shoots 1 year old. When grown as a remontant variety, the first wave of crop ripening falls on July 12-15.
Growing regions
The variety is zoned for cultivation in the Moscow region, central Russia. Giving up to 90% of the harvest before frost, raspberries Bryanskoe Divo can be cultivated in the northern regions - this will not affect the timing of harvesting.
Yield
Raspberry Bryanskoe Divo belongs to high-yielding varieties. 2.5-3.0 kg of berries are harvested from the bush. With industrial cultivation, the yield reaches 12-17 t / ha.
Berries and their taste
Thick skin and dense juicy pulp with a sweet and sour taste - these are the characteristic features of this variety of raspberries. Their color is classic red, the shape looks like an elongated cone - up to 4 cm from the base to the tip. The berry weighs 5-6 g. The aroma of the fruit is delicate and exquisite.
Growing features
When planting, it is recommended to keep 1 m between the bushes. The variety tolerates this procedure well, but it is best to carry it out in early October, when the biological processes in the trunks and roots are already slowing down. And also, depending on the characteristics of the climate, planting can be successfully carried out in early autumn and in the middle of spring, when the air temperature reaches about + 8 ... 12 degrees Celsius. A garter is optional, but on trellises, raspberries are easier to keep in order, and harvesting is much easier.
Site selection and soil preparation
The optimal landing site is protected from strong winds.Sunlight is necessary for raspberries of this variety, but the plant is not so sensitive to the type of soil. Any sufficiently fertile will do, but better than others - loam, sandy loam soil. Landing is carried out in a trench way, you do not need to dig deeply - in 1 bayonet of a shovel, but the width of the landing track should be from 400 mm. A distance of 1.5 m is maintained between the rows.
During preparation, a mixture of manure and compost is poured into the trench so that about 150 mm of the trench height is covered. Then superphosphate is added - about 20 g per m2. Everything is mixed with soil, pegs are driven in for props. You can start planting.
Pruning
At the end of the season, in preparation for winter, the aboveground shoots are pruned at the root. This is done if the raspberry Bryanskoe Divo is grown as a shrub with fruiting on the shoots of the current year. If you want to see manifestations of renovation, the pruning will be different. Only those branches on which the ovaries were located will have to be removed.
But this is not the only measure that will have to be taken so that the raspberry plant does not thicken. In early spring, when lateral branches are formed, the lower young shoots are removed. This stimulates the branching at the top, fruiting.
Autumn pruning in the southern regions begins no earlier than the 3rd decade of November. In northern climates, it is possible to harvest the green mass at the end of the harvest. The variety shows additional summer sanitary pruning with thinning. 7-8 of the strongest and strongest shoots are left on the bush.
Frost resistance and preparation for winter
Bryansk Divo is a winter-hardy raspberry. Due to the fact that the upper part of the shoots is absent, it is not so sensitive to lower temperatures in winter. The plant requires covering the roots with a thick layer of mulch only in snowless winters.
Diseases and pests
High resistance to typical infections and parasites attracts farmers' attention to this raspberry. And yet it is affected by pests. They are especially active at the stage of flowering and bud formation. Here the danger is the raspberry beetle, weevil. During periods of drought, it is worth making sure that the shoots are not attacked by spider mites. It is possible to reduce the risks of pests by spraying shoots with modern chemical insecticides, such as Aktellik, Iskra, Alatar.
Of the fungal diseases, the most dangerous for raspberries is the Bryansk Divo rot. Basically, the plant is affected by its gray variety. And also the leaves are capable of hitting curl or rust, powdery mildew. Dangerous for the plant damage by anthracnose and didimella. As a preventive measure, the bushes are subjected to fungicidal treatment.
Unfortunately, raspberries, like other plants, do not bypass various diseases and pests. Only armed with the knowledge and the necessary means for this, you can cope with such troubles. To help the plant, it is very important to be able to recognize the disease in time and begin timely treatment.
Reproduction
The process of self-breeding of the Bryansk Diva is always associated with obtaining seedlings from the mother plant. Most often, the bush is propagated by cuttings.
With the first method, the harvesting of planting material begins in September. A well-developed shoot is cut off from the bush, divided into 10 cm pieces, and sent to a solution that stimulates root formation for 6 hours. Then the resulting cuttings are sent to the ground at an angle of 45 degrees. During the autumn months, the roots will have time to form. For the winter, the seedlings are covered, in the spring they are separated, and planted around the site.
When propagating by root cuttings (the second method), at the end of the harvest, part of the rhizome is dug out from the mother bush. Its thickness must be at least 10 mm. A part of the root is cut off, divided into segments of about 150 mm, for the winter it is sent to a box with dry sand in a cool place - a cellar, basement. In the spring, the saved seedlings will only have to be soaked in the root former.
Review overview
Amateur gardeners, who are well acquainted with the amazing features of the Bryansk Diva, are already accustomed to the exceptionally large sizes of fruits and abundant harvests. Novice owners are invariably surprised by the plant's ability to bear fruit almost until winter. In addition, the lack of abundant creeping growth is attributed to the great advantages of the variety. Experienced gardeners recommend organizing high-quality irrigation for raspberries using drip systems.
The disadvantages include only the rarity of the variety. It is quite difficult to find it on sale in nurseries, and to acquire seedlings from hands is dangerous.
