Anyone strives to make the interior of their home more attractive. Colors and materials are carefully selected, geometry and texture, stylistic accent are thought out. But if you don't take care of the lighting design, all your interior decorating efforts will be in vain.

Wall lights

When choosing a lighting device, consider where it will be installed, what role it will play in the design. In addition to receiving the luminous flux, you can divide the space of the room into zones, draw attention to one or another object. In bedrooms, the ideal point for installing a sconce is the wall above the head of the bed (sofa), above the armchairs; the bathroom only benefits when the lamp is placed next to the mirror.

Before visiting a store or before opening a remote catalog, you should clearly define:

  • what is the current style (or what it will be after renovation);
  • will the combination of wall and ceiling light turn out to be the only one, or will you use it and other sources of it;
  • whether you need to illuminate everything, or direct the light in a given direction, or just focus on style;
  • whether the humidity, dustiness is high, whether there can be changes in air temperature.

Wall lighting devices are presented in a wide range, but there is no chaos in it, the gradation is very simple and is determined by the method of mounting.

Convenient and not too striking are lampshades tightly pressed against the walls, held by tripods, slats or hidden mounts. The advantage of this solution is easy cleaning and suitability in a variety of stylistic environments.

In another version, the lampshade is mounted on a bracket, and thanks to this, it is possible both to fill the room with soft diffused light and to decorate it visually. In addition, such a choice frees you from the need to painfully think about which lamp to use in a particular interior.

Use in different rooms

The most suitable option for the hallway is a transparent shade and the brightest lamps. When the light flux goes up, the room visually becomes higher, in the opposite direction it brings a feeling of romance and comfort.

Chandeliers and sconces for sleeping areas are preferable with dim, slightly diffused light - they allow you to calm down and do not disturb, it is easier to tune in to rest and just to positive thoughts. For those who cannot imagine life without evening reading or gadgets, it is more appropriate to choose lamps with variable power - finding them in any collection will not be a problem.

A bedroom where sconces are used not only appear brighter, but can also be immersed in an atmosphere of intimacy.

Designers get their hands on a powerful tool for transforming their surroundings. Due to the choice of the size and configuration of the lamps, they will be able to focus on the bedside area, it is advantageous to beat a certain object (an old mirror, a picture, a wardrobe).

Lighting fixtures in the style of "Rococo" or "Baroque" will be used mainly in classical styles, adding luxury and glamor to the interior. The chandelier is often supplied with paired lamps, and this solution is welcome - it reliably eliminates the need to look for a ceiling light source that would suit you.

Having chosen semi-antique motifs for decorating your home, give preference to imitations of candles, this will not affect the quality of lighting in any way.

Combination of top and side light

It is very useful to combine top and side lights. Chandeliers allow you to provide normal general lighting, and complementary to it sconces give an opportunity:

  • illuminate the selected area as intensely as possible;
  • reduce visual fatigue when writing, sewing, and other small and painstaking work;
  • to make the light background soft and comfortable for perception;
  • do not take away too much extra space.

Having chosen a combination of a sconce plus a chandelier, it is worth making a separate connection for them, so as not to waste electricity unnecessarily at any time. Plafonds of wall lamps can have the most bizarre and fanciful geometric shape, not only round, but also:

  • oval;
  • triangular;
  • with five corners;
  • "Like a comma."

Wall lamps can be made of metal, ceramics, plastic and even glass; a very good option is now considered to be the use of LEDs. Such light sources are popular due to the impossibility of moisture damage, high brightness with relative efficiency, the ability to direct the luminous flux in the desired direction.

The sconces that complement the chandelier and made in the same style as it will help illuminate a vase or corner, a sofa or a picture, a bookshelf or an entrance to a room, desks and desks.

Sconce

In most cases, sconces play a supporting role in relation to other light sources. But in a small room, for example, in a living room, or in a bathroom, the importance of a wall lamp increases. Thanks to a wide range of design options, no interior features will become an obstacle.

Round lighting fixtures based on mosaic glasses will only emphasize the oriental flavor. Let's say you prefer high-tech compositions: then small steel lamps that give a rich white light come to the rescue.

In the halls, you can install wall lamps at a level of two meters in order to supply light from there at once throughout the entire space. There are other secrets of design skills:

  • the luminous flux increases, and everything around becomes more festive and luxurious, when the sconce is installed almost at the junction of the wall and ceiling;
  • bringing it closer to the floor, they bring in some kind of mystery, romanticism, since the lighting becomes muffled and discreet;
  • the visible expansion of the narrow corridor space is achievable with several luminaires lined up in a line.

Overhead light

For all the importance of wall-mounted light sources in the interior, the fundamental importance remains behind the chandeliers, which contribute the most to the lighting, allowing you to set the right mood.

The style of the upper luminaire is selected taking into account the motives that will be in this room after its reconstruction (or is already there now).

Products on a chain are ideally compatible with high ceilings, and hanging on a hook or on a bar are appropriate in houses of small height.

The calculation of the capacity depends on the area of the bedrooms, living rooms, corridors and hallways.

Estimated figures are:

  • for miniature spaces 100 watts;
  • medium-sized kitchens require an additional 20 - 50 watts (depending on natural light and the needs of the customer);
  • in halls, living rooms, and so on, 150 watts will be only the minimum value.

More accurate figures can be obtained by taking into account the area - at least 20 watts should fall per square meter (when using incandescent lamps). By installing halogen bulbs, they reduce this figure to 16 watts, and the use of energy-saving devices reduces it altogether to 4 watts.

More powerful ceiling lights should not be used; this not only requires extra costs, but also threatens to damage the ceiling itself, even a fire. Remember: what the base is, so should the light bulbs be, you cannot use those options that the designers did not foresee.

All other things being equal, a chandelier with a remote control is more convenient and practical than one that is connected only to a switch.

Returning to power, it is worth mentioning that its optimal indicator depends not only on the area of the illuminated room; dark surfaces reflect less light, and additional light must be introduced to overcome this barrier. As for the tonality of the chandeliers themselves, warm colors are considered classics, although the final answer depends on the overall color of the interior.

You can reduce the light load if you opt for matte or colored shades; in any case, make sure that the light will fall on the entire room and not be concentrated in the center. Compatibility with table and wall lamps increases with chandeliers, lampshades of which are made of paper.

Buying a set, of course, you don't have to think about it - the designers have already tried.

It is undesirable to hang multi-lamp ceiling lamps in the bedroom; for kitchens, paper shades are much worse than metal ones - they clog up too quickly. An orange chandelier can look beautiful: but it is undesirable to forget about the strength of the structure.

The first places in durability with metal lamps are shared by devices made of special heat-resistant plastic.

Crystal and porcelain are fine too, but keep in mind that they are quite expensive to use. But at least it is worth installing them in living rooms, since a feeling of solidity and solidity is immediately added. The lampshade must correspond in size to both the chandelier itself and the room in which it is installed.

By following these recommendations, you can easily find the optimal combination of wall and ceiling lights.
