Onion Zolotnichok is a popular variety among gardeners, which is valued for its excellent taste and quick survival in almost any soil.

Breeding history

The variety was bred by domestic breeders and entered in the State Register after successfully passing tests in 1996.

Description of the variety

Spool is suitable for growing as an annual crop by planting seeds. Among the advantages of the variety, there is a marketable and presentable type of formed bulbs, as well as table versatility and a fairly high percentage of ripening.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and bulbs

Among the main characteristics of the Zolotnichok bow, the following should be highlighted:

  • the shape of the bulb is round;
  • weight - up to 35-60 g;
  • the color of dry scales is golden yellow;
  • the color of juicy scales is white.

The peel has a high density and good keeping quality, which makes it possible to transport the onion even over long distances. On average, the nest forms up to 2-3 bulbs.

Purpose and taste

Summer residents and tasters talk about the delicate taste of semi-sharp onions, which contain up to 14% dry matter and 12% sugars. Zolotnik is good both fresh and as part of various dishes.

Maturation

The variety belongs to the group of mid-season plants, on average, the bulbs are formed in 79-105 days from the moment of planting the seeds and subject to the necessary agrotechnical recommendations.

Yield

With proper care, the yield indicator reaches 329 centners of onions per hectare. The minimum indicator is 159 c / ha.

Growing and care

Zolotnichok is grown mainly with seeds or sets, the first are planted in March, the second - in April-May. Before planting, it is necessary to prepare the seed.

Preference should be given to large samples up to 1 cm in diameter, and it is also recommended to inspect the bulbs for cracks and other types of deformations. Such samples should be removed. After selection, the bulbs must be transferred to a warm place for 2-3 days. Then they are soaked in salt for 5 minutes. This will help strengthen the onion's immune system and prevent its death during active growth.

The site for planting Zolotnichka also needs to be prepared. A couple of weeks before sowing, the soil should be thoroughly loosened and fertilized to saturate the soil with nutrients and oxygen. The landing is carried out according to the scheme 25x20 centimeters.

After planting the bulbs, it will remain to cover them with soil and water abundantly, walking with a watering can between the rows. The next stage is caring for the culture.

  • Watering. The plant is not particularly demanding for watering. It is recommended to water the bushes for the first time after planting only after 3 days. Then water is added to the soil 1 time in 3-5 days, taking into account the weather and climatic features of the region.
  • Loosening and weeding. Mandatory procedures with which it is possible to saturate the soil with oxygen and accelerate the flow of nutrients to the roots. Weeding, in turn, further prevents the spread of diseases and pests.
  • Top dressing. The first time the soil is fertilized 2 weeks after germination, using organic compounds in the form of a solution of droppings or mullein. Further, onions are fertilized twice more per season, giving preference to phosphorus-potassium complexes.

It is recommended to stop watering 2 weeks before harvesting so that the bulbs do not start to rot in the soil.

Since the onion is an unpretentious and cold-resistant plant, it can be planted both in spring and autumn. It is necessary to properly prepare the planting material, competently prepare the garden bed and determine the timing of planting.

To grow a large and tasty onion crop, you need to take good care of it from planting to harvesting. Watering is an important part of outdoor crop care. Thanks to timely watering, the onion will be able to grow normally, form a bulb, and grow greens.

Soil requirements

The spool is unpretentious to the type of soil and takes root well in almost any soil. However, compliance with additional recommendations will allow you to get a high yield. Consider the following when choosing a location.

  • Acidity. It is better to give preference to soils with a neutral pH. If desired, it can also be lowered or raised with the appropriate fertilizer. Also, the soil should be light, fertile and well-drained.
  • Location. It is best to plant onions in shaded or sunny areas where there are no drafts.
  • Ground water level. They should be located low, otherwise there is a high probability that the plant will die.

When the site is located in a lowland, it is worth taking care of the drainage system.

The bow is not as unpretentious as it seems. For good growth, you need fertile soil, quality care and nutritious fertilizers. Without top dressing, the bulbs will grow small, and the greens will not be lush. At different stages, it should be fed with different substances. The vegetable needs organic and mineral feeding. A good result for fertilizing onions is the use of folk remedies.

Disease and pest resistance

The variety is well resistant to most diseases and pests popular for onions. But with improper care, the plant's immunity decreases, various insects and diseases begin to attack it. To prevent the death of Zolotnichk, you should regularly carry out preventive treatment with the help of special preparations.

Despite the fact that the onion is a very useful plant, capable of repelling and killing many microbes and bacteria, it itself is often damaged and suffers from various misfortunes. Diseases and pests of onions can significantly reduce the yield. It is necessary to correctly determine the presence of this or that disease and take appropriate measures in time.

Review overview

Gardeners leave mostly positive reviews about the qualities and characteristics of the Zolotnichok variety. The pluses of the plant include:

  • high productivity;
  • strong immunity;
  • large fruits;
  • excellent keeping quality.

Also, gardeners appreciate the variety for its excellent taste characteristics, which allow you to use onions to prepare unique dishes.

To get a good harvest, you should not only properly care for it, but also harvest it at a certain time. You can remove the onion from the garden only after it is fully ripe. Collecting bulbs in the middle lane usually begins in August, closer to the middle of the month.
After harvesting the onion, it is important to preserve it as long as possible, without losing quality. For this, the raw materials must be properly prepared. You can store onions in different ways. It is important to observe a certain mode of temperature and humidity in the room.
