In an effort to ennoble the site, gardeners often choose plants that perform two functions at once: the formation of the crop and the decoration of the planting zone. One of these cultures is the decorative Moli onion, which is also popularly called golden garlic.

Description

Moli's onion belongs to perennials. This culture is widely found on the territory of Russia and in Europe. The stems of the plant have a height of 15 to 30 centimeters, and this variety is decorative due to its inflorescences: the flowers are yellow, resemble stars in shape. The sizes are average - about 1 centimeter in diameter. The inflorescence consists of several such flowers, its total diameter can be 7 cm.

Yellow flowers are beautifully combined with lanceolate leaves of a bluish-green color. The foliage is wide, has a flat structure, the tips are slightly drooping. Despite the fact that the plates quickly begin to turn yellow, the decorativeness of the variety still remains at its best. The moth bulb is shaped like a regular ball. Its diameter is 2.5 centimeters.

The vegetable can be eaten, but it has a smell, despite the fact that it is an onion, garlic, which led to the popular name "golden garlic".

Reproduction

Gardeners use several techniques to breed golden garlic. The least popular is seed... This is because the flowering of the onion in this case will have to wait 4 years. It is this time that the perennial needs to build up green mass. However, only the seed method allows you to completely renew the culture, and this should be done every 15 years. Seeds are planted in the spring, while many seeds are laid out in one hole at once. Do not be afraid of thickening, because in the future you can always plant bushes.

You can also multiply the Moli onion by dividing the bush. The procedure is carried out both in spring and at the very end of summer. The weather should be cool and the leaves should be dry. It is necessary to choose the healthiest and most powerful bushes, dig them out of the ground. Then split into parts. The roots should be shortened by a third. Delenki are planted in moist soil with pre-applied top dressing. In this case, the belt planting technology is used. The distance between the bushes is 0.2 m, and between the rows - 0.4 m.However, the easiest way to reproduce is by children... Ornamental onions grow them in huge numbers, so there should be no problems with obtaining seed material.

The baby bulbs are right next to the mother bush. They can be carefully trimmed and immediately rooted, or dried and stored.

Growing

Taking care of golden garlic is not difficult even for an inexperienced gardener. The plant will grow and bloom beautifully both in full sun and in shaded areas. The soil should be loose, light and fertile. Moli will not develop in wet loams. It is advisable to prepare the soil in the autumn months. Compost and minerals must be added to it. Seeds are planted in spring, too. Babies are usually planted in the fall, just like adult bulbs. The holes should be shallow. One onion is immersed in them, sprinkled with soil, watered... In the cold period, mulch is used in the form of peat.

Golden garlic does not like excess moisture, so it is not recommended to allow it. Water the plants as the soil dries, for this you can use a garden watering can or a plastic bottle with holes in the lid. If the plantings are large, it will be advisable to install an automatic irrigation system. The water should be at room temperature. Weeds often grow near Moli. They need to be weeded out, combined with light surface loosening of the soil. In the spring and summer months, you do not need to put mulch, but if you leave the cottage for a long time, and the summer is too hot, then this will be a completely justified action. You can mulch onions with straw, peat, and freshly cut grass.

As for the dressing, the plants can not be fertilized at all. However, more beautiful flowering will be achieved by mineral complexes for bulbous plants. Dilution of drugs and watering is carried out strictly according to the instructions. Plants do not need organic matter - it is applied only before planting in poor soils. Especially poorly plants tolerate manure, chicken. But in general, they respond well to green infusions from weeds. Before watering, concentrates should be diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 10.

Moli's onion grows very quickly, so thickened plantings are not uncommon. Once every few years, the plantings need to be thinned, although some gardeners do this annually. It is necessary to wait for the leaves to dry, and then transplant a few bushes to thin out the planting. For planting material, holes are dug, the depth of which will be three onions. After planting, new bushes are well watered.

The distance between small bulbs should be 10 cm, and between large ones - about 15 cm.

Application

Most often, Moli onions are grown for decorative purposes. We will find out how you can apply it on your own site.

  • Tapeworm... Moths are quite decorative in order to decorate the site yourself. However, it is worth remembering that no one will notice single bushes. Therefore, golden garlic must grow massively.
  • Framing the border. Moli bushes will be able to effectively decorate the paths. And also golden garlic can decorate the borders and edges of flower beds.
  • Various types of flower beds. We are talking here about alpine slides, rockeries, and other types of plantings. Moli's bright yellow spots look great next to decorative stones, water. To make the contrast more pronounced, you can plant red, blue, purple flowers nearby.

Among other things, Moths can be combined with other types of decorative bows. The lower the bushes, the more they will be needed to create an effective composition. However, it is worth remembering that a large number of such plants will emit a special aroma that not everyone will like. For this reason, it is recommended to plant onions together with other plants. It thrives on bulbs such as daffodils and irises. And it also looks great with peonies, lavender, geraniums, poppies. Ornamental onions can be planted behind other plants. During flowering, it will still be visible, but after it the leaves will turn yellow, and the composition will no longer be so attractive. In this case, other plants will be able to cover the yellow foliage.

Moths can be cut off and placed in water. It is necessary to change the liquid once a day, as it acquires an unpleasant aroma. Or you can dilute some salt in water. In this case, the onion will stand up to 14 days, delighting with beautiful flowers. It looks even more impressive when dried in a bouquet arrangement.

Drying Moli should take place in a room with dim lighting and good ventilation. Plants should be hung with inflorescences down.
