All about loft style shoe racks
The importance of arranging the hallway cannot be underestimated, because it is this space that creates the initial impression of the house and its owners. Even the smallest hall should not be impersonal and boring. Furniture in the popular loft style will help to decorate the hallway, for example, shoe racks with a brutal character inherent in this direction.
Peculiarities
The main purpose of this interior element is to accommodate the required number of shoes and maintain order in the corridor. Boots and shoes scattered on the floor create a feeling of sloppiness, clutter, and dust and dirt from street shoes are carried throughout the apartment. It is advisable to hide shoes from pets, which can damage them. A set of guest slippers, shoe creams and other cosmetics for leather goods must also be stored somewhere. Ideal if the furniture copes with all these tasks. Functionality depends on size and design, but all loft-style shoe racks share common features:
- they have simple geometric shapes;
- they are dominated by natural materials (metal, wood, concrete) or their imitation;
- there is no unnecessary decor: panels on the facades, carved and stucco details.

There are 2 types of shoe storage systems: open and closed. Closed shoe racks are divided into types according to the door fastening mechanism:
- wardrobes, sideboards, dressers with hinged doors;
- with hinged doors at 35–90 ° - this design is called "slim" or shoe cabinet;
- with sliding sliding doors.
Open furniture can be made in the form of a rack, cabinet, bookcase, stand with light metal shelves (straight or inclined). Models without doors are most often designed for a small number of couples, which are used in the current season, so they look compact and are suitable for small apartments with a small hallway. In walk-in closets, such open systems can take up an entire wall and accommodate an extensive shoe collection. Advantages of a solution without doors: the shoes are ventilated, they can be quickly obtained. Cons: the boots get dusty, are constantly in sight, and are accessible to animals that are not trained to order.
An open stand usually consists of 2–5 tiers. It is good when the distance between the shelves is prudently made different: narrow for low shoes and large when it is intended for boots.
One of the types of shoe racks is a bench. This is a cross between a bench and a curbstone, a chest. It is convenient to put bags on the surface or sit down to comfortably put on shoes. The seat is often padded and covered with fabric or leather. Such a model can be open or equipped with doors.
Shoe racks are often made combined: open shelves and closed compartments coexist in one product. Quite oversized, but multifunctional furniture for the hallway - a hanger, a wall mirror, an umbrella holder, combined with a shoe cabinet or shelves.
Materials (edit)
The loft style involves the use of materials that evoke associations with old factory premises, with spacious industrial workshops. Therefore, for furniture in this style, including for shoe racks, it is used:
- metal: shaped pipe, steel water pipes, perforated metal, mesh;
- wood: barn board, artificially aged tinted pine, packaging boxes with logo stamps, old warehouse pallets;
- concrete, most often untreated, with varying degrees of texture: from smooth to rough;
- MDF, laminated chipboard with a textured pattern.
A loft-style shoe rack, due to the peculiarities of the style, looks more expressive with open shelves. The industrial character is visible in the "naked" metal frame, because in industrial spaces it is not customary to hide beams, pipes and other structural elements.
The most popular model: a small rack with a square tube base, primed and painted black, and wooden shelves covered with stain or oil. Design furniture studios present many options using piping details: couplings, fittings, taps and plugs become original style elements. The system of mesh steel shelves and baskets on rails looks light and airy.
Shoe racks on a metal frame are stable and durable. The same can be said about products using lightweight concrete. Since cabinets and cabinets using this building material can be found only in some furniture studios, the solution may be to buy furniture made of chipboard with lamination imitating a concrete texture. For the upholstery of a soft seat at a loft-style shoe rack, matting fabric, textured canvas, embossed imitation leather are perfect.
A stylish and unique piece of furniture can be made independently from boxes, boards, pallets with just a jigsaw and self-tapping screws. The wood can be left untreated, but it is better to paint it in shades of gray or to cover it with oil, wax, protective impregnation. This will make it easier to care for the shoe.
Beautiful examples
There are many interesting examples.
- An elementary structure, dark gray or black metal of a profile pipe and wood or MDF is one of the most budgetary options for lovers of loft style.
- Even a non-professional can manufacture a shoe rack without a metal frame from old boards, boxes or from discarded pallets-pallets.
- Avalyne designer model: shelves made of pine barn boards, treated with tinting oil and wax. Metal base: water and gas pipes and cast iron fittings.
- A closed cabinet will reliably hide shoes from attempts (literally) by pets.
- The chic option with mesh steel doors solves the problem of airing your favorite sneakers.
- Three in one: a shoe rack combined with a hanger.
- It is easy to maintain a rack of type-setting mesh shelves, and it does not overshadow the main attribute of the loft style: textured brick walls.
- A canvas pillow will soften the brutality of the welded metal structure.
