How to choose a transparent varnish for metal?

Metal symbolizes strength and durability, but at the same time, it is easily exposed to influences that spoil its appearance. It reacts easily with air, water, moisture and chemical solutions. Today, there are many different ways to get rid of damage to a metal surface, but it is better to use means to prevent their appearance. To do this, it is enough just to cover the surface with a special varnish. The varnish envelops the metal with a transparent protective layer, and can also give it a light shade.

To choose the most suitable varnish for metal, you need to study in detail the composition and action of each type. Let's consider a brief description of some of them.

As the name suggests, it contains bitumen and polymer resins. After drying, the product gives the coating a black tint-like tint. They can cover not only metal, but also wooden and stone surfaces. The product is heat-resistant, durable and safe for human health. At the moment, it is very popular in the market, since in addition to all the listed advantages, it also has a low price.

It contains polymers that, when applied, create a strong adhesion to the surface. It has anti-corrosion properties, therefore it is used for processing metal products, and most often for metal dishes. This varnish can be inconspicuous (colorless), glossy and even matte. The coating can have a different shade, it can be used as a protective layer before applying paint to the metal.

It forms a very resistant film that tolerates constant humidity and temperature changes well. The varnish is available in the form of aerosols and a regular liquid that is applied with a brush. In the modern world, it is most often used in the surface treatment of car parts. The product easily tolerates exposure to chemicals and can even extend the life of various metals.

Unlike previous types, after drying, it gives the metal surface a glossy sheen. The product is sold in the form of a spray and in a liquid form.

Due to its special heat resistance, this type is only used for brickwork and ovens.

As a rule, the metal surface is sanded before varnishing. This is done with a special apparatus, and then with sandpaper, since after hardware grinding scratches remain on the surface, and sandpaper helps to smooth them. After the surface becomes glossy matt, sanding can be considered finished.

The varnish will adhere better when sprayed on. Using this method, divorce can be avoided. It should be noted that with multi-layer application, you need to wait for the complete drying of the previous layer.

When stored for a long time, the varnish can harden or decompose into components. If in the latter case, the usual shaking of the jar or mixing of the composition helps, then the first situation can cause difficulties at the beginning of work. However, this problem can also be dealt with - if it is a spray, it can be warmed up in a water bath, constantly increasing the temperature. After a few minutes, the solution will become smooth and fluid.

Before finally deciding on the choice of varnish, it must be borne in mind that such products can protect the surface before painting, and can also perform just a decorative function. Each of the types described is resistant to temperature and humidity changes, and some even protect against mechanical damage to varying degrees.
